I wanna give you a big advice on pronouncing German words. You often drop the last letters of a word in your pronunciation. French is notorious for that, but in German it is fairly uncommon to have letters that aren’t spoken out loud. At the very least when it comes to the ending of a word you are on the safe side if you pronounce all of it.

Differences can also be seen with regard to the relationship between the three branches of the state (legislative, executive and judicial) and the importance of the parties in the respective system...but this is now becoming a bit too academic for a KZread comment There are diffrences in the voting System but i dont think that i can Tell much about voting in the usa it seem to be more compicate then it is in germany but as i said i dont know to much and i dont want to tell any nonsense.... @@shadesmarerik4112 A few main differences: The German parliament usually has 5 to 7 political parties (to be in parliament, a political party must receive at least 5% of the vote). Most politicians are life-long politicians by profession, with most holding university degrees preparing them for a political career; having a non-politician (like Trump) run for a major office is rare. The voting day is Sunday and the polls close at 6 p.m., and the final results are usually known within a couple of hours at most (and, often, immediately). Politicians interact with each other more formally and respectfully (well, usually). When no party is a clear winner after an election, 2 or more parties form a coalition government, and sometimes that government consists of the two main riival parties. Compromise and solidarity usually prevail in the end; there seems to be a general understanding that a workable solution must be found where all partiies grit their teeth but nevertheless commit to an agreement.
germany, where nobody was surprised of him winning that election back then... we were, however, surprised to find out, that you guys were so surprised...
"Dumbass award" is not the correct translation of "vollpfosten" since the actual translation wouldnt make any sense in English. "vollpfosten" translates to something like "total pole". It's a german insult and basically compares the intellectual capacity of the insulted to that of a (wooden) pole. So now you know why the award looks the way it does. Its meant to resemble some kind of pole :)
7 years old but still gold. And here we go again! elections with the two old men from the retirement home 😂
To clear up the language jokes. The award is a pole as in German a total pole is an idiot and they said "the IS can cut of a slice of trumps teaching" "the IS does like cutting of slices"

"Take a page out of that book" is "to cut a slice off" in German, the subtitles translated the first instance and not the second hence the pun is completely broken.
Wer kennt sie nicht, die Who What Show ^^
knocking is a way of showing respect for an event, like a presentation in uni class or a scientific public experiment. Also commonly used in high school after a presentation due to the "higher" level of education and class. In "cheaper" forms of entertainment like a show or a music festival it is common to applause as it is not commonly seen as "impressive" or unique. The decision wether to knock or to clap your hands is usually centered around of the level of education and etiquette, not as in Germans always knock while other people clap.
@crafterofdoom

@VfB1893huff

It is also a question of the circumstances. You can't knock if there is no table obviously. It's not always about the level of education or "higher class" or something "impressive". I've seen people knocking on the tables after a speech or a meeting of the local marching band or hiking club.
Then choose the right party, otherwise it may be the last time you vote.
4:50: In Germany, the idiom "eine Scheine von [etwas/jemand] abschneiden" means "cutting a slice off [something/someone]" and is the German version of "taking a page out of someones book". It's the pun on the IS chopping people off versus the idea of taking an idea from someone as cutting a slice from someone. 8:00: If you haven't noticed, after Welke accused him of being a Trump-Fanboy, Ehring suddenly had a blonde Trump-wig.

That show is a satirical news show. Oh and the comment about the slice is a German saying in the likes of "You should take a slice of someone's behaviour", meaning you should take that someone as a role model for yourself and your own behaviour
well.. for the pronounciation question in the beginning: the "heute" part of "heuteshow" (the "eu" in there specifically), is kinda more pronounced like "Hoite" there (like as if you would say the "eu" part out as if it was "oi", you at very least are going to get close to do so, same counts for many similar "eu" containing words, where the "eu" ain't a result of two words having been basically smashed together)
Exactly, as you said in the end, it is a comedy show like the Daily Show in the U.S. The foreign correspondent in Washington is played by Christian Ehring who has his own comedy show "Extra 3". Note that Germans have no problem with the f-word. "Vollpfosten" (literally a (wooden) post, what the moderator is holding in his hands) is a very dumb person.

The "eu" is pronounced a bit like 'oi' or 'oy', and there are no (or nearly to zero) silent letters in Standard German. "Heute" means today and is also the title of the daily news broadcast of the ZDF channel. The clip is from the New Years' Eve edition with their yearly award ceremony. The awards are called "Vollpfosten" (lit. "full post" / "full pole", but the meaning is "dumbass") and are designed like a bollard. 4:45 "take a page from his book" is a translation for the German idiom "eine Scheibe abschneiden" = cutting a slice (from a sausage).
The translation would be the "today" show.
