I'm well aware of Americans having similar chocolate bars to the UK, having the unfortunate experience of sampling some of the said American chocolate I'd rather go hungry.

A lot of UK ads are based on taking the 'mickey' out of life. The Kit Kat ad, is about the popular trend of self build furniture (never works out)

American' adverts are awful. What amuses me is that most of the awful ones in the US seem to be in relation to prescription drugs... and they tell you to ask your doctor for them. Not, you know, for your doctor to choose whether you need them from an actual diagnosis and a match from that to what you need to fix you up. Nope, you go to your doctor and tell them what you want.

I wonder if its because all our ads are national and maybe a lot of American ads are local.

Your not allowed to lie in British adverts and they have to warn you of the consequences of not keeping up payments.

Anytime I’m in the US I will never get over the constant commercials for medications that you should “ask your doctor about”, it really is a stark reminder that our healthcare system in the UK should be protected at all costs! Also, kitkats in the US are garbage compared to the kitkats here in the UK... fun fact, most American chocolate bars can’t be classed as chocolate here as the cocoa content is so low! I bloody love your British content as you seem to genuinely want to immerse yourself in our culture and learn more, keep it up! 👌🏻

@@charlieboy77 To be fair the 'internet was invented by the US - Darpa-net but the 'world wide web' - the internet as you know it was Sir Tim Berners Lee (hypertext etc) a brit but he was working for a US company. The whole TCP/IP (comms protocol) was American - so let's call it a great collaboration.

Friends was popular in the UK. That might be a repurposed ad, but Ross and Joey have both been in recent UK ads.

KitKat originates from Rowntrees chocolates in the 1930 from the York factory. Rowntrees was acquired by nestle in the 1980s. I lived near the factory and you could smell chocolate in the air.

One reason adverts might seem of higher quality is because they’re all National adverts, there’s no local TV or local ads like you get in the US (you might get some regional variations or exceptions)

If you set yourself up a Post Office Box and let people know, I'm pretty sure you'll have plenty of people sending you British chocolate/sweets/candies. Maybe even a few other bits and pieces. Also, our PSA's would be interesting to see you react to.

Yes, we are quite sophisticated in the UK and have farms and everything 🤣 not sure why you are surprised we have American actors advertising things in the UK. They have them in Canada and Australia too lol. And the advert for turkey is because a lot of people go on holidays there. Mc donalds definitely tastes better in the UK than in America and it's also healthier. Werthers original started in Germany over 100 years ago.

The KitKat advert is throwing shade at Ikea, hence catapult with the K and umlaut, I do hope someone else mentioned this but I'm too lazy to read all the comments! Keep up the good work, you make me laugh!

You said that "you all have versions of our chocolate" well I hate to tell you, but kit-kat originated in York, England.

One thing you need to know about UK adverts is prescription drugs can't be advertised on TV here. Only medicines that can be purchased without a prescription can be (aspirin for example)

Here traveling to another country is so easy and its like going to another state in the US. ( when covid is not an issue, things are real tiight right now) oh and the beef is on a different level here because the UK meat standards are much higher.

Other countries will often advertise their country as a vacation destination. Up to the pandemic most British families look forward to a holiday abroad as you can't guarantee sun here.

"The guy on the train " is Martin Freeman who is a really well known actor here (He played The Hobbit in the hit movies). I couldn't see what was on their screens but I wouldn't be surprised if it is an episode of something he is actually in - that would make it even more typically British!

Kitkat was launched in 1935 in the UK as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, and the later two-finger version was launched in 1936. It was renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937, and just Kit Kat after World War II. The American version didn't appear till the 70's

For British people Turkey is a holiday destination.

It’s so interesting to me that us adverts aren’t like this wow. Also you should react to the John Lewis Christmas adverts (or Christmas adverts in general) companies go all out with their adverts at Christmas and the John Lewis advert in particular is massive here, we look forward to seeing what they do every year!

We're British .. we're also European .. hence adverts for Turkey and other Countries .. their our neighbours and we all mix

UK, ROI (Republic of Ireland), IoM (Isle of Man), CI (Channel Islands)

Purple Bricks is an online estate agent (Real Estate) selling houses. The commission (fee) is much less than going to a High Street (office) Estate Agent. A lot of our adverts use subtle comedy in them. We also get a lot of US shows on our TV and therefore we know loads of US actors. We also get lots of countries advertising on our screens as they are so close. From London to Spain fly in an hour and a half, Greece in three and a half hours. Turkey 4 hours. I can drive from my house (near London) to France in less than 2 hours. I can be in Belgium in about two and a half hours by car. The ferry from Dover to France takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on weather. Car and up to 9 passengers is about £129 return. You should get yourself over here to sample the cultural diversity, food, shopping, stunning countryside, history, architecture, etc. Honestly try and get your head around standing in the footsteps of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) or castles where people stood from 1066 or earlier. You would be standing exactly where they were. In some castles you can see graffiti from where the guards were on sentry and used their daggers, swords to carve into the stone.

Comic relief is a bi yearly (every 2 years) charity appeal (like a telethon with less phones) for Africa & the UK, hosted by the BBC at the beginning of the year. It swaps with Sports Relief (principally a UK appeal there). There's also the BBC Children In Need charity appeal (UK) every winter.

A lot of big names have done british ads, Ridley Scott (Hollywood film director) did an ad for Hovis bread and the guy in the Vodafone ad is Martin Freeman who played Bilbo in the Hobbit films.

Breakfast used to be until 11 but they changed it. We get proper chicken breast in our nuggets etc too. Kit Kats are worldwide. You can get green tea flavour in Japan. All houses are sold through estate agents - purple brick is an online version.

BTW KitKat was created in the UK. But in the US it has a different company name to ours so I get why you think it’s American. Oh and no, there is no difference in the “us” and “British” kitkat

KitKat is a British bar made by Rowntree’s later Rowntree Macintosh, in York. The company was taken over by Swiss company Nestle, and is now global, although it does really well in Japan, where they practically worship chocolate wafer bars.

Irn-Bru adverts are funny (weird but funny)

At 02:48 the small text at the bottom of the screen reads: "UK, ROI, IoM, CI. 18+. etc." The acronyms refer to the UK, Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands, in case you were wondering what they mean. There was a promotion that was available only in those places, for over-18s.

Purple bricks is an online estate agent (realtor) that advertise fixed fees instead of commission - normally a percentage of the value of the property sold here plus advertising etc. We do also get adverts from other countries tourist boards and airlines - especially as we haven't been able to legally travel for a while - The British are also the largest customers for tourism in a lot of European countries. At the moment there is the struggle of pandemic restrictions in each country vs getting tourists and of course their money - to kick start parts of various countries' economies - we often get them for Disneyland / Florida and similar

Lots of Americans sell products on British TV - Kevin Bacon sells mobile phones, Robert de Niro has sold cars, David Swimmer sells banking, Clooney, De Niro and Stallone have all sold bread, Arnie has sold California as a holiday destination, Samuel L Jackson and Bruce Willis sell internet services, Snoop Dogg sells food delivery.

I believe in the USA you have a lot of pharmaceutical/medication adverts of a type that would not be allowed in the UK and they include in small print at the bottom and maybe some fast talking about side-effects or not approved by etc., or at least in some States. In the UK some financial services such as bank mortgages have to include the 'small print' in their adverts. Re: Cheese, in Europe, the USA has a reputation for 'plastic cheese', highly processed cheese that few in Europe would like either. That being said, baby-bell cheese is not great, and its success is more down to marketing, gimmickry and lunch-box convenience than taste. Re: Turkish Airlines, as a lot of people in the UK tend to holiday abroad, we have a lot of adverts for different airlines and destinations, including for the USA

Kit Kat is/was a British company owned by Nestle and produced in Norwich and York I believe Kraft bought them out 5 or so years ago.

(From a few stops on the tube from Barking). There are legal rule in the UK that limit adverts (~8 minutes per hour maximum), so companies have to make them engaging. Also we can turn over to one of the BBC channels that have no advertising, they're paid for by having a TV license.

Kit Kat was originally made by rowntree an English company that was bought out by nestle a French company. It's made under license by Hershey in the USA.

The train one. The point is, because he doesn't have the super dooper phone package, he can't catch up on the latest episodes on the commute home like everyone else. Turkish airlines. Basically have your vacation in Turkey and fly with us. This is an example of an add shown all over Europe with a local voiceover. So you will see the same visuals but with French, Polish or Swedish depending on the country.

Some years ago I was with the crew making a 20 second Ad for a Popular fizzy drink. The ad took two days to make, the budget was £50k. It was only shown twice on UK TV , being deemed unsuitable for children, and was only shown for a short time in the cinema. It was made to full cinema standards.

David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc have both recently been on UK TV programs Purple Bricks are an online estate agent that charge a fixed fee for selling your home. Rather than a commission, which is a sliding fee based on the sale price, which a traditional estate agent usually charges. Saving you possibly thousands, as selling a house takes about the same amount of work if it costs 100K or 200K. Thanks for the insight into how an American sees UK adverts.
