It wasn’t a bad attempt at a remake, and Ayoade was a pretty good host for the most parts. The biggest issue was that it was really really repetitive. The contestants didn’t get to choose their tasks and were given the same challenges week in week out, Richard would make the same jokes every week, and it just got very old very fast.

I think the hand came about because, Richard O' Brien would often grab the contestants by the hand and race them to the next trial. Ayoade just didn't want to touch them.

@@tehpickle1250 I think the main problem with it was the original had teams made purely from people who worked together and their incompetence shone through gloriously, not being able to solve ridiculously simple problems whilst each member of their team shouted meaningless instructions at them at the same time adding to the confusion. The remake had friendship groups who were just there for fun and the "spotlight" of being on TV, playing up to the camera. It threw out the dynamic.

As we all keep going on at you about ... All three of Richard, Noel Fielding and Matt Berry are in Darkplace (although only one episode for Noel). It's an absolute cult classic in their early years of comedy on TV. I guarantee you love it. It's off the wall, crazy and downright hilarious. It fits your humour precisely.

I love how he makes Mel B so uncomfortable. 😂

The show with the umbrella hand is called The crystal maze.

The Crystal Maze is.....hard to explain, but it's basically a gameshow with physical and mental challenges and an eccentric host. That's the show he hosts holding the hand on a stick. Travel Man is just Richard going on different (usually European) weekend trips with another celeb or comedian. A kind of comedy travel show. Worth checking out. Joe Lycett (don't know if you've come across him?) hosts it now.

Noel is pronounced "nole", rather than like the Christmas carol of the same name.

Richard is just unique, and his comedy brain and timing is as close to perfection as you can get.

There is a movie where Richard Ayoade plays the similar character too moss from the IT crowd called 'The Watch" with Ben Stiller in it too.

That bit with Jimmy in the little room was actually Gadget Man which was the precursor to Travel Man. They were in a tiny home (hilarious).

Richard hosts a genuine game show with members of the public called ‘The Crystal maze’. I like it. It used to be hosted by richard o brien ( of the rocky horror picture show). Teams of work colleagues ( as an example) compete against other teams by completing different physical tasks. The tasks are set in a variety of themed areas. For each task successfuly completed, the team is awarded with a crystal.

Travel Man - Berlin, Bob Mortimer, e-number museum. Absolutely brilliant!

"This quiz is a marathon!" He's not wrong, I've been in the audience of one of the Big Fat Quizzes, the recording lasted around 3 hours!

Worth checking out "Nathan Barley" if you can find it. Written by Charlie Brooker (Black Mirror) & Chris Morris (Day Today, Brass Eye, Jam) & featuring Ayoade plus Noel Fielding & Julian Barrett (Mighty Boosh) & Ben Whishaw ("Q" from the Daniel Craig Bonds). Loony satire.

the show with the people in shiny clothes is called "the crystal maze"it was a reboot of an adventure game show from the late 80's originally hosted by the creator of the rocky horror picture show Richard O'brein, travel man is a show where he takes a different celeb on a weekend break all over the world, the one with Paul Rudd as a guest is brilliant!

That "your mum" and "bring back Mr. Rodgers, he was a GOOD teacher" is every UK kid's school experience. As well as finding out the first names of teachers and when being told to give chewing gum and spitting in their hands saying "I swallowed it". My favourite was being told to go to the headmistress' office and saying: "Will I have, to take my clothes off again?" Actually thought I was going to get lamped, but he just went to slam the door on me 😬

Richard and Noel are so chaotic together on game shows, they're like the two troublemakers at the back of class.

Travel Man is brilliant. Helsinki with Paul Rudd is my favourite.

You should react to Richard Ayoade speaking to Krishnan Guru-Murthy (Channel 4 News), Krishnan has a reputation for saying exactly the wrong thing during interviews and Richard is having none of it.

The four girls and the umbrella were from The Crystal Maze which is a British game show devised by Jacques Antoine, based upon his format for the French game show Fort Boyard, and produced for Channel 4. The first four series and three specials were hosted by Richard O'Brien, he wrote the musical stage show The Rocky Horror Show in 1973, which has since remained in continuous production. You need to watch the clip of Richard Ayoade and Bob Mortimer from Travel Man. It’s the clip where they are discussing Bob’s idea for changes to the toilet. One of the only times I’ve seen Richard Ayoade completely break character, it’s great.

I enjoyed Richard as host of The Crystal Maze. The hand thing was based on Richard not wanting to be touched, he used the hand as a way of keeping people 'at arms length'. They had to place the crystals into the hand if they won them.

It's "Travel Man: 48 hours in....". Each week is a different city with a different guest. Usually a comedian or actor

@KingBoomer, I love your reactions to British humour. It's really nice to see you learning and diving into the cultural references. There's another comedian called Nick Mohammed who's very quirky. He also performed in Ted Lasso on Apple TV. He's so bonkers that I can't help but find him endearing and addictive viewing. He's so clever. He always cheers me up. Give him a shot.His memorising the Wagamama menu is epic. He often features on 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. Oh yes and definitely check out Travel Man and Taskmaster by the way.

Travelman is basically Richard asking his colleagues n friends to go on a weekend break with him to some city in the world. They usually do stuff thats popular in the city or what the city is known for and gives some facts and history about the place. Its a simple show carried by just the 2 people Richard and his guest.

You will love Travel Man. He partners with several regulars from 8oo10cdc, IT Crowd... Its quite fun to watch. And, yes, the episode with Chris O'Dowd is classic.

The Crystal Maze is the show it had two presenters before Richard Ayoade the most famous being Richard O'Brien the first presenter.

When he is wearing: Orange suit - show: Crystal maze (a game/ puzzle show that he hosts) Blue suit - (I think) it's Gadget Man (a show about new fancy gadgets) All clips where he is wearing normal clothes out and about with a guest will be the show Travel Man. It is a show about going somewhere for 48 hours normally and what you can see/ do.

Yeah, please do Travel Man. I've only seen a couple of episodes, but would love to sit through all of them on KZread with you and Queen Boomer.

The hand is because he didn't want to touch or be touched by the contestants of the game show. So, they could shake the wooden hand and he would lead them from one part of the game to another (it was set in different zones Aztec/future etc) using the wooden hand.

Watch Bottom! It's the natural progression!

I've been watching Travel Man recently, bingeing on them actually, and you learn a lot about Richard, including the fact that he hardly ever eats. I've seen him eat two meals of the many he ordered in the shows. Amazing. It did distress me how much food was wasted in these shows but otherwise they're fun. Of course if he will order local dishes from these places it's hardly surprising. He takes various celebrities on 48 hour mini breaks to various cities and some local dishes even the locals don't like.

I've recommended Travel Man in the comments, I definitely stand by that. You get the joy of Ayoade himself, plus a bunch of other really good comedians messing around with him, and an actual travel show. Great combination. I will say though, some episodes are better than others. Off the top of my head I loved Bob Mortimer, Paul Rudd, Adam Hills, Morgana Robinson, Aisling Bea, Rob Beckett and Adam Buxton. So, so many episodes to look at though.

That woman on the travel man with the mask is Jo Brand and she has a wicked sense of humour, she's sharp and pretty quick witted too, not as quick as Richard or Lee Mack but quick enough to keep up with them.

Hey King Boomer! If you want more Chris Morris (Denholm Reynholm), I'd like to recommend "Brass Eye". It was his own current affairs based comedy series. Very dark humour though and controversial. I'd also like to recommend another bunch comedy series called Cunk on Britain, Cunk on America, Cunk on Earth, Cunk on Shakespeare and Cunk on Christmas all one season per topic. They're a kind of historical mocumentary where the interviewees are perplexed by Philomena Cunk's nonsensical but cleaver questions and presentations. Hilarious stuff. Anyway keep up the good work on these reactions 😎👍

I didn't know that something like Travel Man exists. And I am checking those episodes and I already want to watch it... especially beause I am traveller and I have been in many of those places. And this show is still rolling. :D

The Show you want to know is the Crystal Maze (I'm sure I'm the 99th person to point that out) but the original 90's TV show with Richard O'Brien (Who you may know as Riff Raff from The Rocky Horror Show), then Edward Tudor Pole (a Punk star that had fleeting success in the UK called Ten Pole Tudor) and later rebooted under Richard Ayoade (I Love Richard Ayoade but the Crystal maze was not his finest hour, you'd have to watch the 90s version to get the full context, if you want?)

I’m going to add to the pile, you and Queen Boomer should watch Garth Mahrengi’s Dark Place. It has Ayoade and Matt Berry (Douglas Reyholm in IT crowd) it’s such a good show

Richard Ayode's one of my personal faves too!! 'An Introvert's hero! :) Garth Marenghi's Dark Place' is definitely what you guys should watch next- it's a spoof of an 80's horror/ hospital/ cop series, completely ridiculously funny, made badly on purpose, with Richard Ayode and Matt Berry, I think would be a better choice than Travel Man (although that's great too!) to start with as it's a comedy, only six episodes but all gold! :D Would Love that!! :) But then maybe watch Travel Man, The Crystal Maze, and Gadget Man too! :)

Chris O'Dowd, ( Roy ) was in a movie called 'The Sapphires' -- nothing spectactular just a good story 'Loosely based on true events'. Definately worth watching.

The Other Show was Gadget Man Richard Started in Series 2 of Gadget Man Stephen Fry did the first series, Gadget man is the predessor to Travel Man.

The show you didn't recognize was "The Crystal Maze", a remake of a 90s game show. I got to help out a bit on production as a guinea pig for games and camera blocking. Show wasn't quite as good as the 90s version, but was fun to get involved in.

OK, so first off, yes, watch Travel Man. Put simply, it's Richard Ayoade and a fresh guest each episode reviewing a weekend away in different cities across the world. Dead easy watching, very funny and you and Queen Boomer would both love it. Also, I know you like wacky comedy, and it doesn't get wackier than Garth Mahrengi's Dark Place. It's a short show, with one series at 6 episodes long. It was written by Matt Holness but heavily features Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry (Douglas from IT Crowd). It's an old show but that just adds to the appeal. It is easily the craziest show i've ever seen. And you might be glad to know that the whole series is on KZread for free (or at least it was in the USA and I believe it still is.)

Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is a must must must watch for you and Mrs Boomer. 1 season of 6 episodes (may only be 5 due to KZread copyright), so it’ll be such an easy watch. If you liked IT Crowd then this is a must.

Richard Ayoade has a thing about bodily contact so hence the hand on a stick when he was doing The Crystal Maze. So he didn't actually have to lead anyone by his real hand.

Travel man is a travel show. The clues in the bloody name! Richard invites a comic friend to join him for a 48hr, weekend, city break somewhere in the world. They do a travel log, visiting tourist spots, museums, bars, restaurants etc and share their views on what the city has to offer. When Richard left the show after nine seasons, Joe Lycett took over hosting duties. It's informative and fun. He does Athens with Dawn French, which I'm sure you'll enjoy.

The clip with the mask and the ones with "Roy" and the snow globe were both travel man. The formula is basically that him and his guest visit a place and he takes them to do a mixture of unusual things and maybe more traditional things etc... It's pretty laid back but he's had some great guests to share the experiences with.

8:00 & 8:57 This is indeed Travel Man the guest this week being Jimmy Carr it's a mini break type show doing stuff and going to places of interest ( well some things are not of interest to the guest so thats always fun) taking guests to places around Europe. The guest trying Salty Liquorice being a favourite of mine. 14:15 Joe Brand comedian and ex-psychiatric nurse so she's lived and seen psycho's first hand.

The Crystal Maze is a game show on Channel 4 from the early 90s and rebooted with Richard Ayoade in 2017. The object is to win as many games as possible to win crystals for time in the Crystal Dome game in the end and a better chance of a prize. If you fail to get out of a game room in your time limit, you get locked in and getting out will cost you a crystal. It’s number 1 on the top 10 UK game shows countdown on WatchMojoUK and it’s definitely worth checking out. I do prefer the original series with Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole though.

Never seen so many bad edits in a video they move to the next clip each time it really becomes great. The best 'moments' last about 1min each and they seem to feel anything over 10seconds needs a cut. Search all these clips and see how good they really are.

Ooooo yessss travel man !!

I loved how Richard took Mel B down. She was soooo haughty during Big Fat Quiz. She thought she was above everyone in that room and made no attempt to hide it. Eventually the whole panel (and Jimmy) turned on her and comedically ripped her a new one. She wouldn't stop trying to take him on and Richard's responses were a work of art. I don't think she's been back and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be invited.

Someone may have already mentioned it, but one of the Travel Man episodes was in Miami
