    Usually experienced stage actors are almost immune from corpsing because obviously, there is no such thing as editing when you're performing a stage play. But even Sir Ian caught the bug on this set! 😂

    The funny thing about the Keith Chegwin (RIP) is that he was always known as being nice to a fault. Even when he was in Celebrity Big Brother, people turned on him cos he didn't want to take sides in the arguments. But, yeah, I've corpsed plenty of times, and it's wonderful and horrible at the same time. And the more you dread it, the more likely it is to happen again. My personal trick when it comes to crying when I'm acting is to get in the scene and start inwardly telling myself "don't you dare cry, not about this, this doesn't warrant you crying", and then I lose it. It's kind of the same with corpsing. The more you tell yourself not to, the worst it gets. And then, through repetition, one innocuous word can become the funniest thing ever. I filmed a thing with a guy years ago, and the word in question was "aspiradora". It got so bad that now, over 10 years later, I can call him up, say that one word, and he'll be in hysterics.

    Ricky's laugh is so loud, and a lot of people find it annoying. But I've always found it, as you said, infectious. I just have to laugh when he does. Ashley's laugh is brilliant to watch :) If it took 2 hours to do the pen scene, imagine how much we're NOT seeing. It makes you wonder, when you see the final cut, how did they get through it? Great stuff!

    I used to love that Burt Reynolds comedies back in the 80s used to often end with blooper reels during the credits. The Cannonball Run & Smokey and the bandit movies were classics for this. Especially the Cannonball run ones when you consider just how many famous stars were in those. If you have never seen them, check out this video of the two Cannoball Run films blooper reels kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5tkz85mfsbal9Y.html

    I've always interpreted Corpsing as the over exaggeration "I'm literally dying laughing" or "dying with or from laughter". But according to Google the term comes from the theatre: The worst possible time to uncontrollably laugh would be on stage, playing a corpse.

  • @SynphamyMusic

    @SynphamyMusic

    That's really interesting. I always thought the term would have some kind of root from funerals being the most inappropriate place for uncontrollable laughter... That thing where you're in a situation so serious that laughing is just this weird thing that your body does by itself to cope with the stress. I had this problem when i got sent to the headmaster's office in school once for doing work with a black permanent marker i'd taken into school... It went straight through the paper and marked the table underneath. Couldn't stop giggling in his face while he was telling me how much trouble i was in!

    I know what you're saying at around 6:30 but when actors get stuck corpsing it's usually because they know what's coming next, so they're laughing at the thing that going to be said later on.

  • @nonnovyabizness3003
    @nonnovyabizness300310 ай бұрын

    The term corpsing stems from the theatre and is a tradition of trying to make your fellow actors laugh when they are not supposed too either when they are trying to do a serious scene or as the name implies the character they are playing should be acting as though they are dead yet another example of British humour and how we amuse our selves and tend to not take ourselves too seriously !

    I guess you don't know Kieth Chegwin ( no reason anyone outside the UK would ), but just for some additional context, he was essentially a children's TV presenter which makes what he is saying so much more out of place.

    I don't know if the world of professional wrestling took the term from show biz or show biz took the term from wrestling, but "corpsing" is a thing in wrestling. It usually involves getting a wrestler who is so deeply into his character to break character. Some of the targets over the years have included the Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Some of the best at getting other wrestlers to corpse are the Rock, Santino Marella, and Sami Zayn.

    “Corpsing” got its name from when actors on the stage would try and make the actor playing dead laugh. Changing lines, adding a comment, anything to make them laugh. Yet aware that actor was having such a difficult time to suppress laughter. Breaking character was also described as being “mortifying” for that actor. Sir Ian McKellen was on my train coming home from work on Thursday. He was speaking to others and no pretentious “Do you know who I am” malarkey. It was refreshing from such a distinguished actor.
