The Liverpool thing is just Manchester (where Karl’s from) and Liverpool have a bit of a rivalry so they like to take little digs at each other, never anything too serious but a common one is never leave your car in Liverpool cuz the scouse (term for someone from Liverpool) will “put it on bricks”, basically saying they’ll steal your wheels and sell them

Fag end means cigarette end, and by goz he means someone's phlegm that is coughed up from the throat. Fag is a fairly common slang way of saying cigarette, but I would say goz is an unusual slang word, at least where I am from in north-west England.

interesting fact when karl mentions visiting Bethlehem on xmas day. until quite recently xmas day celebrations were relatively unknown there due to all of the fighting however a former resident is in charge of a huge multinational company that has move head office a few times and is currently based in Greece. Anyway they employ a company from Liverpool, England to sort out the xmas decorations each year in bethlehem. This same company also sorts out the xmas decorations for a lot of big stars around the world like steven spielberg, maria carey, dustin hoffman etc

My parents took me to Israel (Jerusalem and Bethlehem) as part of a tour when I was young enough I understood and remembered things but the danger went a bit over my head. I remember we had an armed escort for our coach and we had to turn all the lights off on a stretch of road through desert. Now understand so couldn't be shelled but at the time didn't register. It's weird how things stick though I was a bit meh about the jesus birthplace and things. But Jerusalem I found irritating because roadworks with bits of stone hitting me and Palestine I loved because we ate at a local restaurant and the people were lovely. Can remember being annoyed at the wailing wall because I just wanted us to leave and buy ice cream.

I cannot remember clearly as I just remember being told all the lights were off to keep us safe so no one could hit the coach...but I think actually it may have been driving along the road on the green line where the monstrosity of a wall is now (was built 5 years after I visited).

What Karl means by the Dead Sea being the “lowest place in the world”, that should probably be rephrased as, the shores of the sea are the lowest point on land below sea level, about 1412 ft/430 metres below sea level. It has a salinity (salt content) of 34%, just under 10 times saltier than the ocean.

Petra (latin) or Petros (greek - πέτρος) means rock whereas lithos can also translate to stones - which is where we get paleolithic , mesolithic and neolithic (old stone age, middle stone age and new stone age - with the mesolithic period using chipped stones and flint whilst neolithic age got aroubnd to carving and polishing the stone tools)

I'd be afraid to go to Israel too, but that's because their leadership is even less functional than the US one. Plus the way they ignore human rights would never be a comfortable thing for a gay man like me, I understand ''Tel Aviv'' is supposed to be among the gay capitals of the world, but no, you can't be. You simply cannot have gay rights if you don't have human rights and settle in Palestine lands for years. It doesn't make sense. Before you can be any kind of international place, accept international law, would be my suggestion. The illegal settling of the Palestine region, as confirmed by many international organisations, is considered a crime against humanity/human rights. I repeat, you cannot pretend to take over the title of ''gay capital'' if you are in a country that does not respect another people's sovereignty. Simple as that. Amsterdam & The hague will forever be, capital of LGBT and also, as for the Hague, city of Justice and peace. Good luck getting somewhere, Israel.

Israel was a lovely place to visit, loads of really nice people some amazing landmarks, it gets a bad rep but its a nice place but its slowly getting better - for someone with the same personal choices you have made then yeah i can see why it would be a bad place as being gay is not allowed there, but you sound like an American trying to force a country to change its laws, culture etc just because it doesnt fit in with your community - would you like Isralies to come to America and force their things on you? no of course not so stop trying to change them, for a vast majority of the world Israel is a fine and safe place to be - it also isnt International laws the EU, UK and USA do not control the laws for the world, the Middle east, and the East all have their own laws and we can not try and force our personal beliefs and choices on them, as i tell a lot of Americans if you dont like the laws or culture then dont go there there is 100s of other countries that will fit a persons needs but the Middle East is a beautiful place if you are smart, do research and learn their laws and culture (frankly i found Israel to be more welcoming than fucking America i guess its because they are not so far up their own arse)

@@theaces3697 Offc I will not go there, I totally agree, if countries do not agree with human rights, I do not feel like any human should go there. By the way, I'm not from the US but I totally understand how even Israel, of all places, could feel like a more welcoming place. Even with all the corruption, human rights violations and violations of international law. But yes, you are totally right. If a country does not support humans, don't go there. That's why, generally, countries like Israel, North Korea or Qatar, receive less tourists. It all makes sense and who are we to tell them they are wrong. I mean, human rights.. are kind of the basis.. so I mean, in a way you could say they are wrong, and you could do that without being in the wrong. But if you go into their country and say they are wrong, then, yes, you are kind of an asshole.

It’s disgusting isn’t it? Don’t ever come to the UK though, and criticise Israel like that. Here in the UK, don’t know how much you know about our politics, but the former leader of the left wing Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, was a supporter of Palestinian rights and freedom and critical of Israel’s government for their atrocities. The man has spent his whole career condemning racism around the world, and from the moment he announced that if he became Prime Minister he’d recognise Palestine as a state, he was condemned and smeared on and demonised in the press and news media, for racism and antisemitism. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but antisemitism by definition should mean just people who are against Jewish people, right? Well for some reason, it’s now in recent years become a thing, to say that antisemitism also means being critical of the Israel government, when that has never been a part of it as a definition ever. The other issue is how people have started treating anti-zionism as antisemitism. Zionism is the backbone of the State of Israel, and the main driving force behind the occupation of Palestine, which is the culmination of the Zionist dream. These Zionists occupying Palestine are the oppressors, the Palestinians are the oppressed. So when Corbyn came out as a supporter of Palestine and critic of Israel, Palestinians were overjoyed, and Jewish members of the Labour Party were ecstatic to finally have a party leader who was critical of the Israel government’s human rights violations. Over a period of 4 years, the Labour Party gradually suspended these members. There were militant Zionists in the streets with ties to far right organisations which only fuelled the flames. They called these Jewish members who supported Corbyn “Kapos” referring to a corrupt minority of Jews who aided Nazis in killing other Jews in the camps during the Holocaust. They genuinely said that because they were critical of the corrupt government in Israel they also wanted their own people dead, which is just scandalous. Corbyn was condemned for all of this, he took all the blame, to the point where the party bureaucracy that sided with supporters of Israel, got him ousted from the party, and the poor man’s been depressed ever since. It was an absolutely disgusting smear campaign to prevent a genuinely humanitarian politician from becoming our Prime Minister. So when you say that it would be awful to go to Israel because of their bad LGBT track record alone, that’s not even the tip of the iceberg of war crimes.

Everyone's going "it's ugly, depressing, costing them their future, etc." about that wall, but no one is thinking about why it's there. No one goes through that much effort if there isn't a good reason for it. Most places don't have such constructions, because they don't have religious fanatics set on eradicating them living next door. If there was a significant percentage of people illegally coming to US through its southern border, that were carrying out suicide bombings, kidnappings and other acts of terrorism, you'd have something similar. On second thought, you'd have sent your army in to demolish Mexico instead.
