8:33 The British in 1938 discovery of nuclear fission in uranium raised the possibility that an extremely powerful atomic bomb could be created. In July 1940, Britain had offered to give the United States access to its scientific research. American scientists discovered that the American project was smaller than the British, and not as far advanced. Tube Alloys was the research and development programme authorized by the United Kingdom, with participation from Canada, to develop nuclear weapons during the Second World War. Starting before the Manhattan Project in the United States To make this short. The US and UK developed the Manhattan Project together with the British technology. The British didn't have the resources to make a bomb BUT the US did. Therefore Al's right about that, the Yanks did it for us.

The only thing I've got to say is one of my friends online is American and we just had a chat about 2nd world war and he said Americans won it also " your welcome because if we didn't intervene you would have lost" and I was like " the only reason america came in to the war was because of what happened at Pearl Harbour" but he disagreed with me. And then I thought fuck it I'm not going in depth with this conversation it's history yes but I'm not fighting with him who's wrong and who's right I've got my own life to live and shit lol

The small village next to my town called Rostrevor in Northern Ireland is where the man Robert Ross was born. He was the man that burned the whitehouse down. Ironically it was an irishman that designed the Whitehouse and an Irishman that burned it down albeit he was a British officer. Coincidently Rostrevor isn't named after him but rather Ros which means woodland in irish so perhaps he was named after the village itself.

Al Murray D-Day to Berlin was the Show he did , He did a Parachute jump with a man in his 80’s who jumped on D-Day and when he asked was he scared about jumping now he said No the Last time he jumped he had Germans Shooting at him 🤣🤣🤣
You are the first American ive seen to acknowledge that all of Britain's navy and most British forces wasn't even in America fighting, they were all in Gibraltar south of Spain.
He did a sitcom as the pub landlord called Time Gentlemen Please, I think it would be to your taste.
You are the first American to know/admit that battle on KZread that I know of. 10 Points, just for not shouting Murica! Then shooting 2 Revolvers randomly in the air!
"We got the Yanks to do it for us". We kinda did. Britain (with some help from Canada and others), had the "Tube Alloys Project", this is where we did all the research into the atomic bomb. we gave that to 'the yanks', and they called it the Manhattan Project, and used it on Japan. Twice.

Lol. Al Murray is pure class! The amount of countries we Brits have had wars with is unbelievable.
Hi King B. Congrats to you and Queen B. Hi agree that history is fascinating. I am from N Ireland and my wife from England. We spent a summer in the south of USA and tried to learn as much as we could about the civil war etc. including museums in Atlanta and across the south. we did not know as much as you did, but came away with a view that the war, in terms of race, was still having a significant influence on the country today. I was also shocked to learn how much the US did to fund the Uk during the start of WW2. No small achievement and gets me thinking about how much help we should give to Ukraine at the moment. Keep it up you muppet.

Well, we bought off the owners in the British Empire at unprecedented cost via government borrowing that was only paid off in 2015. Our cotton industry (and many other industries) traded in slave produced (and indentured labour produced) goods for long after abolition. It's also worth remembering that the final impetus for both abolition of the trade, and of slavery itself were provided not by domestic campaigns, although they were important, but by slave revolts.
@barrymitchell6444
Жыл бұрын
Can't believe Yanks are taking the credit away from Britain for abolishing slavery, when they were the main offenders. We didn't have slaves in the UK, but the USA did. You arrived very late for WWII too.
Al Murray does a podcast with James Holland on world war 2 called “We have ways of making you talk” it is a great podcast and covers all aspects of the war
He is a superb historian. I've seen him live four times, and his knowledge and memory is astounding.
This could well have been the reaction that first brought me to your channel! Just as good the second time round KB 👍🏻🤗
One of Murray's ancestors was William Makepeace Thackeray who wrote a famous book called "Vanity Fair".
He did a run of shows where he performed his older sets. Hence the background showing the year 1998 and an old tour poster from that year. Thats how good his memory is

Yeah we had a little on we were also trying to stop slavery by the blockade of Africa with 2 ship's. So forces were a bit thin on the ground to send to the US in 1812/14. Sorry about that but we had to prioritise 😜
Someone else has probably told you, he’s WW2 documentary is The Road To Berlin and is a ten part series of about twenty minute videos all available on KZread.
This is why we are the best country in the world
He also does a Podcast and livestream with the British Author/Historian James Holland. Al has also written a book about senior Commander's from Britain and America in the Second World War.
The British defeated the Japanese in Burmah. However the Japanese were inspired to attack Pearl Harbor by the British attack on the Italian Fleet at Taranto. Ian D.

If you ever get to this side of the pond, get to Shrewsbury Castle the museum for the Shropshire Light Infantry regiment , which goes back to the Napoleonic wars and the peninsula war. The regiment was involved with the capture and burning of Washington, they still have the flags captured from the defending Washington regiments.
5:23 Retreating from the White House? Pretty sure we won that 😂
His doing a nation wide tour in 2024,come over and pick a place to see him.
Al Murray did a series called "AL MURRAY: WHY DO THE BRITS WIN EVERY WAR?" where he looked at various conflicts with a member from that Nation to look at Tactics, equipment and do Tasks. The synopsis for the episode about the Ameican War of Independence is "In this episode Al faces up to one of the world’s superpowers and the richest nation on Earth to discover how the former British colony of America somehow slipped through its fingers. Joining him to fight for his nation’s honour is comedian Reginald D. Hunter. Together, they explore how the frontiersmen of America used guerrilla tactics to outwit the British redcoats, how the most effective spy for the American army was a slave and turn their hands to firing the rockets that set fire to the White House."

The Kapan part he said we got the yanks to do it for us
Watch the flaming tar barrels of Ottery St Mary. It makes cheese rolling look like a child’s pastime!
When he says the Brits got the 'Yanks' to sort out Japan for them reminded me of the saying about the American GI build up prior to D-day in the UK when it was said that Yanks were Overpaid, Oversexed and Over Here. Others say that the Yanks were Overfed, Oversexed and Over Here. I remember in the 60's & 70's prior to a visit by a relative to the ol' sod that was Ireland, every room in the house got a fresh lick of paint for the 'return of the Yank'.
He said Japan we got the Yanks (Americans) to do it for us. So that's a win.
