"Britain is the Hood" Damned straight. Britain has a lot of problems that are brushed under the rug. Also: the UK is an island. A lot of the seaside resorts established in the early 1900's are boom and bust economically based on the season. Brighton, Ren's home town, being one of them.

Facts bro, I'm from Hastings which looks nice in pictures and people from London love to come down for the weekend. But it's an absolute shit hole lol😅 don't get me wrong, I do love the place, just the amount of drug addiction and poverty is unreal. Same with every single seaside town I've been too tbh.

The reason this song resonated so much with me is it managee to capture exactly what Britain was like for me growing up in my teens in the 90s. Britain is not the same as whats portrayed in America. Britain is a pretty rough place. I used to witness at least 3 street fights every saturday night when i used to go out clubbing, popping extasy, getting drunk getting into fights or avoiding fights then getting home at 3am and snoking pot till 5am then crawling up the shop as soon as it opened to buy a pack of fags, paasing out till 11am then making a full english breakfast to chase away the demons.

This is originally a song done by verve. Which is where the "beat" comes from. A band member of the verve loved rens re-imagined version of their song so much. He sent ren a band played guitar. This is like a british anthem for them. Also "she sells sea shells down by the sea shore" is a double. Because shell oil started off with the founder owning an antique shop. Then made millions on collecting sea shells and decorating them. Selling them for hundreds. He thrn baught oil claims. Thats the story of shell oil

It’s interesting the way you’re hearing Ren get “off beat” or “flooded” When the drums kick in. Had you heard Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve before you heard this song? Only ask because I wonder if being familiar with the track eases that tension you’re hearing.

  • @RebornLeveller

I was confused by that comment as Ren is very clearly on beat. But I guess its not a typical Hip-Hop beat so I can see why some people may misinterpret it as being off-beat.

@@RebornLevelleragreed. I’ve spent enough hours listening to playback in recordings and a fair few on stage. Ren is definitely not ‘off beat’. I think it sometimes throws US hip hop fans/artists because Ren will rap over anything. It might not be what you’re used to, but it is definitely not off beat.

It's interesting that you thought Ren was off-beat. He's actually perfectly on-beat, so I was trying to work out what you meant. But then I noticed that you were moving to the music completely off-beat, which I think is because you're interpreting the "on" beat as the early snare drum hit, when the part to be on-beat with is the second snare-drum hit. But it's not a typical Hip-Hop beat so I can see how it could be interpreted as off-beat or flooded.

I am a former schoolteacher, and I agree with you that Schools currently don't do a very good job of teaching critical thinking. It is getting better, common core mathematics is an example of that where children are taught to attack a problem in various ways. This allows for better critical thinking and application of the concepts. But you are right, cramming information doesn't grow intelligence. In fact, it suppresses it. Love this reaction, really. I also love that you speak your mind, even though I don't always agree with you. 🙏❤️

This society can be traced back at least 2000 years to when we were conquered by the Romans (they loved a good party, drink and eat till they were full then vomit it up so they could carry on). We have also had the Anglo-Saxons and then the Vikings. You know what they did a lot off, drinking and fighting. The we had the Normans who loved nothing more than riding around on horses jousting and drinking. Drinking and partying is cultural. Its in our DNA.

The verve sang this song. And the music was created before slightly different but the verve got in trouble sir sampling it I believe. Please check out the verve bitter sweet symphony. You’ll love it. REN does this track amazingly. I absolutely love it and the message and the story. But the verve will never be touched
