You are going to have an amazing journey by jumping down the "Ren" rabbit hole. Its not all as serious but Ren really has been battling demons since he was misdiagnosed after contracting Lyme disease. He was given meds for years that he didn't need and it messed him up a bit. He is currently in Canada getting treatment and will be there for months. He is doing much better now but has a ways to go still. If you want rap then check out his songs- "Illest Of Our Time", "The Hunger", "What You Want" or "Genesis". He also has an amazing voice which you can hear in a song called "Chalk Outlines" and his cover of "I Shot The Sheriff" I highly recommend you jump head first down that rabbit hole because its a pretty wild ride!

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

ya i believe I read somewhere that for Ren the mask represents the "pig-headed" (stubborn) medical system that left the Lyme disease misdiagnosed for years.

there is no "God aspect." He refers to God externally earlier in the lyrics. I've seen this comment before and it is a linguistic impossibility. He cannot refer to a hand by which he was made and a plan which he lives and then have it be something inside himself.

The difference for us humans is that although we are made from it, we can never be it because of our humanness, genetic and psychological baggage. If you are religious, replace consciousness with god... This is why Ren is dancing between dark and light at the end of the song. We must never forget that we are human beings, we are neither daemons nor angels nor god and at the same time we have all in us, we just need to learn to live with it.

Having been through a few therapists, over the years, I am inclined to agree. They all helped me, but it took way longer than 9 minutes.

Ren is nuts. There are some songs like this where you might cry. Others like the Schreeches tale trilogy are like listening to a novel, The Hunger is basically him proving he can rap rap in any style. Genesis is half rap half song but showing he can produce beats. His previous band that busked - the big push- had an amazing set and one of the videos was a Marley mashup of I shot the sheriff, road to Zion and callbacks to Rappers Delight.

Yeah, Ed's repetitive, predictable Pop music might be better for someone like this who couldn't even finish the song without talking over the dialog, and literally shutting the video off before Ren finished what he was saying. It was as if REN became the "beat" and this fool decided to rap over him. "Glasses on... All eyes on ME!"🙄

I'm apparently a crazy mofu. That was my first impression, but I'm a 56 year old white English man and I've watched people reactto this 50, maybe 60 times and you spoke for me the most, even when crazy. This guy is definitely special, and well deserving of the recognition he's been getting.
