Back in the day ARMY had conversations about paying for advertising on KZread. We saw BlackPink fans paying for advertising on and seeing the promotion and access they got. It's hard because that means ARMY has to work harder for BTS, than other fan groups and we still don't hear BTS on the Radio. All I can say, it's been hard to watch others gain access, because we ARMY have decided to play by the rules.

I agree but I would say stop with the radio thing unless you pay for advertising of BTS on that radio then you can choose the songs you wish them to be associated with. It serves both your wants while squarely playing within and by the rules.

@@Jurnalist_ You're right. I think ARMYS collectively decided we'd rather focus on sales. With the thought being we'd rather help our artists get paid directly, rather than sending our money to others in hopes that it helps BTS in some round-about way. (We do stream bc it's an important metric and (at least somewhat) within our control, but we don't appreciate how that financial system is setup either.) Bottom line, we'd always prefer BTS get paid.

The reason armys are so well educated about the american (and the world) music industry, charts, radio (much more educated than you guess) is because many of us are professional researchers, marketing experts, musicians, lawers, etc. And these professionals run fanbases on twitter that educate the fandom on every matter. We know how we could play the system, but we're determined to support BTS in honest ways, just like BTS work.

I agree that the system is corrupt as hell, but we have to play to the game. We also buy the physical copies, but if we want our guys to get recognition through awards and charts... we HAVE to stream. *sigh* If the charts were based on physical sales alone... BTS would have next to zero competition. In there last concert in Las Vegas, V asked the women to cheer and then the men... the number of men there was AWESOME! (There are fan cams of this) and as a 42 year old woman, I can testify that the vast majority of people at the Permission to Dance LA concerts (I was there all four days) were ages 25 and up. The friend I went with the first day is a 60+ year old high school English teacher. And we don't "pass out" because that would make us miss some of the show. :p

One thing I didn't see....before BTS "made it America" they had to fight the Korean Music industry to get airplay & that Big 3, along with the television shows were lined up against them. From the start BTS & Army have been fighting a corrupted system...if anything the cut/bruises/battles in their home market got them ready for the fights on the global stage. It's why BTS Run, Soop, and the BTS bombs on KZread exist, why streaming is so big for them, why direct album purchases work - those were all direct way to support the boys. Suga said in an interview that without social media BTS couldn't have existed & he was right.

ARMY aren't passing out at BTS concerts, we spend too much money and have to go through a " May the odds be ever in your favor" type race against time to get those tickets. Nothing would make me miss any moment of their time on stage. Watch a video called "This is ARMY" by X Celeste, to get an introduction of the fandom. ARMY is diverse, even though most are female you can see whole families of different generations at a BTS concert. I'm 40 and the only ARMYs I know personally are older than me. I'm still trying to convince my husband to get to know these guys, but he's real headstrong in his narrow mindedness towards them. I get jealous of other couples who enjoy BTS together, and their are a lot of them.

  • @squishycoveswena
    @squishycoveswena Жыл бұрын

It has gotten harder like within the last year, but as a whole, army has an agreed upon set of rules when it comes to the guys: if you saw them in public, no you didn't. Don't bother them, dont tweet about their location, dont take pics without their consent. Stuff like that. Especially if they are having a private schedule or with family and friends. There was an interview with a restaurant owner of a place BTS ate at who was asked if the fans got super excited to see BTS there and the guy was like "they looked absolutely terrified and would not even look at them." An army encountered them at work when some members were doing one of those flying wind tunnel things and she was like "I was doing everything in my power to be professional cus I didnt want to bother them but I was screaming inside the entire time." We get that BTS are humans and know that with their fame/success comes very little privacy. So most of us (the crazy 1% not included) are content to let them have whatever privacy can be afforded to them. There is a reason we were ready to throw hands with a monk for Namjoon 4 days ago bc the guy leaked a private convo to a magazine and Namjoon called him out for it on IG saying #lowkeyshouldstaylowkey and that he would not be going to that temple again. BTS' time and private lives are sacred and whatever they are comfortable opening up and willingly sharing with us is a gift and an honor. And I am happy the vast majority of army are on the same page about this.

So the thing is, we know Radio DJs are not the ones who choose which songs get airplay. But it drives us crazy that those DJs always pin the lack of plays on us not playing nice, as if they have any power over the songs. Or else, they blame BTS' label for not "pushing" the song when we know what that "push" they're asking for means. We're actually just tired of their BS and lies. They should stop using us for engagement and stringing us along. We learned about the ugly face of the industry and iHeartRadio the hard way lol.. As for the steroids of streaming, we stream to support BTS as hard as we can fairly, precisely coz we know the system is pointedly trying to shut them out. The changes Billboard made to reduce the weight of physical sales was a direct response to RM telling them to change their system if they have a problem with ARMY playing by the rules to. Billboard keeps discontinuing or reforming charts that BTS dominate. It's clear to me that the American music industry first saw BTS as some cute foreign fad. Once they realised that they kept growing bigger over the years and surpassing American artists without benefitting the American music industry powers-that-be, they started seeing them as a problem. The award shows call them coz they know the kind of engagement BTS brings, but they never give them what they deserve in return. The kind of barriers BTS face are so convoluted, I think it completely makes up for any advantage the streaming age gives them. About the radio station's tweet about smelling V's pillow... I take pride in ARMY being very vocal about our fandom culture. I think that is a major reason why we function differently from other fanbases. We are not entitled to them, they deserve respect and privacy. They share more than enough with us. I really don't want to see anything about them that is not with their consent and approval. But a lot of the world doesn't see celebrities as humans, so they find our stance strange. There are toxic creeps who we don't consider ARMYs. Anyone who bragged about renting an airbnb to smell the guys would be considered a sasaeng (which is the word for stalker-like obsessive fans), not an ARMY. I recall a weird designer advertising that he was auctioning an outfit Jimin wore for a performance, saying that it was unwashed and smelled like him. That was such a creepy thing to say. ARMY made enough noise condemning it that the auction was cancelled.

I don't think you will ever find ARMY fainting when BTS is performing in front of them because you see BTS everywhere, everytime, on social media, they are "reachable" and relatable whereas during the time of MJ, fans were not used to seeing him all the time and there's a lot of mystery surrounding him. They were like "gods" that they can only see once in a blue moon (if they're lucky), just like the old Hollywood celebrities. So seeing them will definitely create some sort of hysteria. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if there have been people fainting at the sight of BTS but it would be odd to me that they would. It would make sense for MJ and stars of those eras, but BTS's entire brand is build on humanizing themselves in an industry where they are literally called idols. They are in a space where they are supposed to be seen as perfect, flawless, above regular people, the most beautiful, the most fit, the most talented, never making mistakes, never having a bad hair day, never having blemishes on their skin, never visibly unhappy, never visibly tired, always charismatic, always graceful, never taking a bad photo even if it's a candid photo or the video is pause, never involved in scandal, the perfect human within the music industry. That's the general goal. They were judged, bullied and looked down on for not even attempting to fit that role. Fans of other idols saw BTS as tainting and polluting what it meant to be an idol. They were seen as different because they showed all of the "bad" and "embarrassing" sides of themselves, being filmed far more than it was probably healthy to be. We saw them grow up from teenagers to adults. Yes they are still pedestalized by fans, but there's still a sense of humanness about them too that people see them as an extended family or friend group. They are always inviting us into their private times where they are eating, sleeping, practicing, doing day to day things, sometimes doing absolutely nothing. They will literally have footage of them just sitting on a bench people watching or them watching TV or reading a book or washing their dishes. All of this to say that they've grounded themselves too much to have fainting as a barameter for their stardom. People simply didn't have this level of intimate access with celebrities back in those days so they were viewed much more differently. I mean after you've watched your fave almost choke to death on a mango or talk about letting a fart go, it's hard not to see them as just some guy lol. Not even celebs today with all the social media out there would put themselves out there to the nearly unhealthy way BTS has. I know more about some of them than I do my own family that I live with because most people tend to keep certain things to themselves. We will never know what Michael Jackson looks like when he's sleeping in his bed, which stuffed toy he sleeps with, what position he sleeps in, what his snores sound like, what PJs he wears or what he does as soon as he wakes up. It legit weirds me out sometimes that we even have this info in our memories because it's sprinkled into normal content for over a decade.

Also about mj 😂 Yeah I don't know if people would faint at the sight of bts. Cus during the Micheal Jackson days, he was basically like a myth to the fans. They didn't know him.... they only knew his stories. That aura of mystery mixed with his stage presence is what caused the fainting in my opinion. It was awe at the sight of him irl, finally seeing him after they had developed their own ideas of him. BTS definitely have the presence... People say they glow irl. But bts are not myths, they don't have mystery. We know how they look when they are drooling and sleeping cus they show it to us on camera lmaoo. So its more like omg it's bts... but instead of just pure awe, awe is there, but mixed with that is a sense of recognition of who they are behind the stage, just seven boys yk? Respect is a huge element also since bts themselves come from the east. The army has adopted a lot of the traditional Eastern practices of respect by watching bts. So we first and foremost have that respect culture in our fanbase. Its a new age of being a fan.

If by some miracle I manage to get front row seats to a BTS concert someday, I wouldn't pass out but I would most likely abandon all dignity and be crying/laughing/singing/screaming the entire time. You got it completely right too. The BTS-Army phenomenon is something I have never seen before, or ever imagined myself a part of. I have never before loved a musician or artist to the extent that I am willing, nay, compelled to spend my hard-earned money on them. I hate social media, never been into collecting stuff or merch, and I'm too busy to keep up with the Army voting/charting activities - so I support BTS by buying physical albums, paying for their online content even though there's so much free content I have yet to consume, I purchase tickets to all their online concerts even for the days I know i have to work and probably can't watch. I agree that the real enemy is ClearChannel, iHeart, and people who run streaming services (e.g. Jeremy Ehrlich, Spotify CEO). I also agree about advertising. The payola is real, but nuanced. This video is an introduction but of course can't hit every detail. ARMYs in 2023 have pretty much stopped trying to court DJs, though we do thank them on social media if they give BTS some spins. We have learned, and so has BTS. They've clearly become very disillusioned with the industry as a whole. We will keep streaming and buying and do what we can to support them. I truly wish real ARMYs could own a radio station (or 10) or have an advertising budget!! I think the point if this video, though, is that BTS (and their company) are refusing to play the dirty aspects of the game -- they play the game, but they try like hell to play fair, and they do depend and lean on ARMY, and we try to be there for them. It can honestly be exhausting. Another note -- yes, there are some fans who would smell a BTS members' pillow. We try not to call them ARMYs to differentiate them from BTS' core fan base. Of , can't gatekeep the term "ARMY" so they will call themselves ARMYs, but.... hopefully, you get the idea. The term in Korean for an obsessive fan/stalker is "sasaeng" (pronounced sass-ang, or close to that), and we don't consider them ARMYs. That's a whole other video, though :) Thanks for your insight and understanding into what BTS and ARMY are trying to do. Becoming an ARMY has taught me so very much about the industry, but there is always more to learn.

I worked with some of the biggest advertiser s/brands in the world, Ford, Coke, GM to name a few and put together marketing plans for media such as radio, OTT streams, Facebook, etc and you are so right when it comes to the brands... they will associate with artists they want. Ad agencies, who work on behalf of the brands are also a bastion of racism and xenophobia. They are very stupid that way. I worked with both general market and POC ad agencies. What they still don't understand especially here in the United States with the fan base as big as it is... now more than ever as ARMY, we will pay for anything that BTS endorses and once more American brands get associated with that like McDs, Coke, Hyundai and a few others then we may see some changes in radio because... trust me the ARMY will support the advertisers that support BTS. It is the higher-ups at the brands and the higher-ups at the dumb ad agencies that still don't see it due to racism and xenophobia. The economic power behind ARMY is massive and if you look at your stats YT Army is older with lots of money to spend. I was at BTS - PTD in LA and I didn't see grown people passing it out but I did see ambulances on the property when I walked in. That place was full of grown women AND men I think the ratio was about 65/35 women/men 😀💜💜😀😀

I’m glad my point on advertising is understood. If army focused on advertising and not radio play directly those spins and influence would shift overnight. You are correct about the numbers I was very surprised when i saw the influx from the army. Not saying I want people passing out but it is a metric I’ve seen in multiple occasions from legacy talent like prince and Micheal and I think BTS could get that same response. I am happy to hear they had safety on site. Gotta keep army safe at all cost.

To us BTS are more human, due to the social media and their presence we connect and see them as they r. And MJ era was different. I font think there is even a need to compare. MJ is a legend no doubt. BTS are living legends of their time but of other kind and nature. No need to compare them. I guess why you are saying his bcs in guides they talk about BTS breaking MJ records and Beatles. But it only means that they stand next to the greatest, they r that good, it's their level

He is like Beyonce, maybe not too much people are listening to their music on daily now but during their active time they were iconic and the work they put in performance and music is amazing (both on their own level). Even BTS homage MJ in their dances, his iconic status can not be denied. It all comes down to music taste, which is subjective and can not be judged

ARMY refuse the celebraty culture with all the paparazzi, spying on guys or doing something else creepy like this. Guys have talked about these things and that it makes them uncomfortable, and it is just common sense when you respect a person you would not want to invade their personal space or be creepy like that smelling the pillows. haha about the fainting, although it happens, it's very rare that fans faint. but u also have to remember the set up of the concerts are diffent in bts shows. the safety and comfort of fans is a major priority. when i saw michael jackson i had floor standing tickets. it was summer time, superhot and we were packed like sardines. i spent most of the show with my face squished against the armpit of a tall stranger and despite staff shooting water canons to cool us off i saw quite a few semi unconscious ppl being pulled out of the audience. i mean sure, they might have fainted cause of michael but i'd factor in all the other reasons as well. also, michael was almost a mythical creature that u rarely saw and a lot of things about him were mysterious and other wordly whereas bts almost feel like our family cause we've seen so much of them as normal flawed people just like us.

heh. indeed, i have a feeling that bts and their company would take it badly if fans were fainting at their concerts; it wouldn't be considered a badge of honour to them. some examples of how they prioritise the safety and comfort of fans to supplement your comment: when their audience sizes grew, they mostly stopped having standing tickets - even the floor tickets were seated, with lots of security around to encourage people to stay where their seats are. their staff also prompt them through their in-ear monitors on the crowd condition and they receive advice on whether it's safe for them to get closer to the crowd or to stay firmly on the stage. bts fans are also generally quite well-behaved and considerate of their fellow concert-goers' experience. the concerts i've been to have felt very well-managed and civilised, which for me is a selling point! :D

Its a feeling of superiority more than bitterness or fear or anything else. Despite all these foreign nations having such amazing talent. They all work so hard to come where? If I am the crown jewel in a successful world tour lets say or in being considered a top International act. Why would I care about product coming into the market? That product needs my approval to survive so its superiority that breeds disrespect which feeds their apathy and thus makes them blind to the tidal wave of talent currently storming our shores. The US music market will be international in 20 years if things keep going the way they are. If that happens artist like Taylor swift and Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus will be the last of an era and generation of pop stars in America. No disrespect to them but if they had to compete on a world stage vs international acts with no tricks they wouldn't even break top 100.

Yes, it's a superiority complex but it is also fear when you have overseas co.s (like Hybe) raking in millions with almost no help from the western industry. Profit from changing markets is unpredictable, and the US corp.s know that all too well.

Your insights into the background of radio djs and the other kind of payola was great. Those are some great information that otherwise we generally wouldn't be exposed to. Advertising money.... yes thats true now that I think about it. When you say bts had shoulders to stand on, I would say it was youtube and twitter. Those were the 2 shoulders bts stood on. They were the first korean artists to use both youtube and twitter heavily to promote themselves even before debut. And yes there are some weirdos in the fandom 0.1 percent. We call them sasaengs. They stalk bts and follow them on planes to take pics and sell them, like paparazzi but more scary. Armys have a blacklist of these people and we report them to bighit regularly. They get sued and blacklisted by bighit also. Also armys have stopped sending flowers and cakes to radio djs. It took us some time... especially since we are not artists and we had to figure it all out through the course of several years. Yes ARMYS do stream heavily and we do buy a lot. That was our technique we developed through the course of several years of testing how these charts work. We are playing their game without entering inside the industry. We are not going to pay radio djs advertising money... but streaming and buying is still ORGANIC. BECAUSE ITS US. That's our method. Billboard is messing with us tho. They are changing the charts to lean more and more heavily towards radio. They figured out how we were doing it; Getting no1s without radio play. KZread is also trying to stop us. But you know.. this fandom will keep going. We aren't done yet.

Literally, after that Billboard Magazine interview, where RM defended us when they were asked about fans buying music -- and then they changed to weight radio even more heavily. Recently, they've made free streams count less, too. We can't say for sure it's only due to BTS and ARMYs, but surely they hated BTS getting #1s over Olivia Rodrigo and other American/industry-favored artists because we bought and streamed the heck out if Butter. They can't control us as an organic fanbase, but they will keep trying to change the rules to negate us. They call us bots. They call us insane. They call us weirdos. They say we're not real. But they all want ARMY clout/engagement, without giving BTS (or us) the deserved respect.

Honest question. On Twitter, this was compared to movies being weighted by how many screens are playing them instead of tickets sold. You can play it on 1,000 screens, but if no one shows up, should it count? Likewise, should it count if no one is actually tuned in to a given station?

Yes, army do stream to help out BTS but personally, I stream their music all day because I FUCKING LOVE THEIR MUSIC and I don’t ever get tired listening to it. That is because BTS’ music TRANSCENDS languages. If you dive deep enough to learn their songs ( not just the superficial aspects of it), you will understand why their music has such an effect on people. And no, I’m not Korean. I don’t speak a Korean word but their music touched me more than any other English song. And no, before BTS, I was never a boy/girl group/band or solo artist die hard fan. I enjoyed several artists, respected their music, bought their albums but I never loved an artist like I love BTS. So yes, I stream their music constantly but if I were honest, streaming to support them is secondary to streaming because of my love for their music. I understand why you compared streaming to being on steroids and I also understand why we can’t compare musical greats from different generations. Even Suga doesn’t want to be compared to the Beatles. But you have to agree, that every great artist of every era has the advantage of the modernization of that era. Michael Jackson had the advantage that Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, or Amadeus Mozart didn’t have. BTS is no less great just because we have streaming technology now. BTS is great because they are BTS. And only true fans who give enough time to understand the many nuances of their music and appreciate their positive characters in this dark world would understand. Also the creeps that you want us to acknowledge as part of the BTS fandom, are in fact, not recognized as ARMY by the true fans. Because true fans understand the importance of respect. The men of BTS is the best example of that respect, in all their dealings from when they started, to when they became the biggest artists in the world. Yes, social media helps BTS to be known to every part of the world but any other contemporary artist also have social media. A fool would think this is the reason they are great. But no, the reason they are great and well loved among different nations and continents, different cultures, and different backgrounds, is because their music transforms and they are extremely good people in a very corrupt world. And one last thing, I remember in your last video you said that RM or Suga should have smacked the person who disrespected them by calling them girls for wearing make up. But that’s just it. BTS would never do that because despite being disrespected, they still chose to rise above and maintain their respect and dignity. Thank you for reacting. You definitely added more to the table with your viewpoints. It would be great if you get to know them deeply but even if you don’t, that’s fine too. More power to you.

My favorite radio anything that related to BTS was when I stumbled across a video of a talk show that had been mistakenly tweeted about a song request. The main guy decided screw it, and played the song anyways. They then later had a whole segment because of the response and engagement they had gotten from ARMY. The main host was so shocked he went on a deep dive trying to figure out who BTS were before hosting the segment and then defended BTS even to his co-hosts, talking about lyrics, philanthropy, playing multiple of their Korean songs, even lesser known ones, and having an ARMY on a call to answer some questions and properly explain. On top of that, apparently this show had been known for talking shit about artists previously and were used to being attacked by fans and couldn’t believe how positive both BTS and their fans were. (But yes, absolutely there are some crazy fans. I think of every fandom using the 1% rule: 1% of every fandom is toxic, so the bigger the fandom, the more individuals in that 1%.)

I am one of them and I and 3 of my fellow ARMY over 50 were 2nd row at one of the Vegas shows in 2022 - we didn't pass out but we were on our feet for the entire 2 1/2+ hour concert and the earlier soundcheck. During soundcheck, we were all singing and dancing so much with them that RM told us to rest and save our energy or we were going to be too worn out for the concert LOL. We weren't. Sang and danced thru the whole concert as well (and I am NOT in the greatest shape 😂) but their energy and passion is contagious and filled the entire Allegiant Stadium. Thanks for your thoughtful reaction to this. Appreciate your insights and opinions. And you are right on something - we stream stream stream because we love them and their music and we can't get in on the radio so we curate our own playlists to hear what WE want to hear, which is BTS - and this from a music lover of many genres and artists - none can hype me up or touch my heart like these 7 young men and if my streams can help get them a little cash for their hard work and one spot higher on a chart which I know pisses the US music industry off to no end, then it is a win win for me all the way. But Dynamite debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 two weeks in a row, #2 on third week, and came back to #1 on the fourth week (I think it stayed in the top 3 for weeks after that 🤔). BTS, including Bang PD (CEO), cried because they know how almost impossible it was for them to reach #1 for them (since they did not do payola, heck, they don’t even do it in their own country bc they’re against it), because radio would not really play their songs and Billboard counted radio as 1/3. Dynamite actually did really well, and it was also in a video game such as Fortnite and was picked in year-end lists. I’ve been watching the industry and the charts for years before becoming army, so I am aware of most of these things Including clear channel, but when I hear/learn more over time, the puzzle pieces fit and big picture becomes more clear.

Conclution: 1. The music industry is more screwed than ARMY thinks 2. I as an ARMY will not put a penny in the pockets of those industry vipers, I will make sure it goes straight to my boys pocket 3. ARMY is aware of the radio monopoly and DJs have zero control over the music that is played, which is why they no longer focus on trying to get more spins 4. I am 40 years old and there is actually a census on ARMY and the results indicate that the majority is over 25 years old and with college degrees 5. Yes, there are few ARMY men but that is changing little by little, the last concert in Las Vegas is a sample of that 6. You will never see an ARMY fainting at a concert, simply because no one wants to miss a single second of the show. In fact, I have seen stories about ARMYs who start to feel bad and the person next to them always helps them because both parties are aware of everything that would be lost if the paramedics take you out. 7. It is actually a question, how do you measure the number of people who listen to the radio at a certain time? Because if something like this is possible, ARMY could give it the best rating at those times where DJs have the freedom to play the music they want 😅

Boracity Magazine makes some great content. It also helps explain about BTS and how different they are not only because they are kpop but also because they are not really kpop. Even thought the metrics are not the same the measures are the same to today. So even though the tools they used are advanced but others today are also working towards the same records but they just can't get there. BTS are the first to say that they stand on the shoulders of giants, they are lovers of music, first time Jungkook went to the Grammys and saw Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus singing Jolene together Jungkook actually cried, cried listening to music that he only ever heard on the radio. The ARMY is full of people that are very obsessed, but the vast majority of ARMY are fans that care about the music and the actual person that made the music, than to be looking for something from my favorite band member.

Both BTS & ARMY are more sophisticated now regarding the Grammys. That first Daesang took them totally by surprise. They have so many awards now that there's not enough room in the museum that HYBE dedicates to them to display them, even though the area in which they are displayed is massive. With over 700 awards, you'll even see 5 or 6 casually sitting on recording equipment in a studio. But back to the Grammys, three years in a row they hyped BTS for views but in the third year we got the last laugh when a live stream that the guys held after the award show exceeded Grammy viewership by millions. That's millions more ARMY watching a live than all the ARMY & non-ARMY viewership of the Grammys added together. Would they still like a Grammy? Yeah, but they've learned they don't need one as validation.

Armys are pretty considerate we try not to mob or be violent at concerts but they can still get wild. The atmophere at BTS concerts are INCREDIBLE.. BTS do have plenty of men in their audience. Just search BTS reacting to fanboys they’re always loud asf and make themselves very known. BTS and their impact are comparable to Michael Jackson to me bc of their impact and stage presence no one right now is PERFORMING at BTS level. Fun fact: BTS still to this day chart under indie artists charts because they are under BigHit, a subsidiary label under Hybe and they kept their creative freedom unless other subsidiaries... When they exploded globaly in 2017, many US labels offered to sign them but they accepted only a partial contract first with Columbia related to distribution, and last year they ended it to sign with geffen records under UMG with the same deal, they kept their hands on all promotion, creativity and marketing aspects. The ironic thing is they opened the gates to other kpop groups to sign with US labels (full contract), but they are the only group with just a distribution deal. Another fun fact: Dynamite was huge the year it was released beating WAP on the charts with just sales and streams, and they stayed at n°1 multiple week until they replaced themselves with the remix they did of "Savage Love" with Jason Derulo.. Maybe you has the feeling it wasn't huge because WAP was everywhere on radio unless Dynamite but it was sold way more.

No my thoughts on huge are more so who is in public playing the music and that’s where BTS has a disconnect in the America market. The streaming is high here so is the effort for radio but I’ve yet to be in a club or bbq or public event and a BTS song is apart of the rotation. Same with professional sporting events. It’s their lack of being included in these moments that I say what I do. The internet is very good at showcasing and amassing a major fan bas but that’s the internet. WAP is played in clubs at shops at house parties there’s a crossover past radio and internet that I think needs to happen to be a big song and thats where I see the vacuum for what BTS is creating. That transition for internet Goldblatt sensations to phenomena that cannot be escaped. Example is Beyoncé’s you can’t break my soul record. I know that song from clubs and the world not internet yet it’s just as big online as in real life that crossover of internet and irl.

I only listen to the radio when my alarm clock goes off. For 3 weeks the same song was being played every morning at 4:30, and I only noticed this because it was one of my favorite artists. The fact that radio play accounts for the largest chunk of the charts is ridiculous. But that doesn't mean counting streams would be a better system. Fan bases do mass streaming and people sign into multiple accounts. There is no perfect system but if one should count for more it should be the one that gives fans the free choice to listen to what they want. Sadly there is too much corruption to even know who the true top artists are. I don't care about the charts as much as I did a few years ago, I was one of those ARMYs who listened all day to a song, but all the effort didn't get them to the top. It took an English song to get them that slot, and that leaves me with some disappointment. I still support BTS music, but I stream their songs and albums exactly how many times I want to listen to them. Being a fan of theirs I want them to get those accolades, but for me what's more important is that people appreciate them for their music and talents.

"On" MV lost 10s of millions of stream in the first 24 hours (30 million? more?) Butter on Spotify lost at least 40% of streams in the beginning in the US. You will have to look up the true numbers. But you see what I'm getting at? Everyone loses views but not that massive. Not even with streaming farms that are paid for by some labels. And they can notice if you use the same IP. There are actually two numbers. The ones you see on the video and a second that has deleted some false streams (what is that actually? without the add music streams? I'm not entirely sure anymore)

Thank you. There's always so much more to learn about anything. It was educational to hear your insights and personal experiences. I guess ARMYs are defensive because not only are the boys working hard but each and every one of us has done something in the effort to helping the guys. Buying has always been something we do. I've never bought albums before BTS. Now I have a physical of every release ever since I became a fan. Because above anything they make, they are most happy when we support their music. Streaming is encouraged and yes, I understand the steroids I guess it's really the only way we as fans can help them since we have no way to help them with radio. Plus we stream because not all of us are able to buy physicals. A lot of the fans don't even own a physical album and that doesn't make any of us less of a fan, we just all have one goal and that's to help them plus streaming isn't work. It's literally listening to music we love. It just sucks that streaming services have put such weird metrics to count our streams. I dunno if bora city talks about it in another video but even filtration on BTS streams are not normal. Like before BTS, if I really liked a song, I would just have it on repeat. Now I learned that you shouldn't actually do that because it won't count your streams accurately because the system deems you as a bot for replaying the song you like ???? I understand what you're saying about comparing BTS records to artists in the past (i think you originally spoke about this when you saw that BTS broke The Beatles record for the fastest to get 3 number 1 albums in less than 12 months), because we know that things have changed. However, it's not like social media and streaming was invented in 2018 before BTS released Love Yourself Tear...plenty of other people who were in the same "steroids era" could have broker that record first, but they didn't. Also, The Beatles set that record in 1996 with their Anthology album series, not in the 1960's so the system and times had already made a massive shift and The Beatles had already reached legendary status (and I think they were having a bit of a renaissance at that time with their Anthology series airing on TV) so it's not like they were releasing brand knew material.

Hell no. I really hope no BTS fan never gets to that point. That's something that I would be teased by family and friends for years to come. lol On another note I do agree with what you're saying about the steroids. Unfortunately the way the system is now set up unless we stream there's no success because they even reduced the impact of album sales on the charts in favor of streams and radio. So while BTS got those number ones before mainly due to pure physical sales now it will be very difficult because they made the new rule after Billboard implied ARMYs were bots and questioned RM about it and he just said we were just following the rules made by Billboard. It is true BTS has had it easier in term of resources compared to the Beatles, however, they had it harder in other areas where it was easier for the Beatles for example making it despite language barrier, racism and xenophobia. Also, like I mentioned before, since The Beatles, that's a damn long time, and BTS is the only that was able to break some of the records. Countless of other groups lived in the same times as BTS and had access to the same things before BTS, example one direction, yet they didn't break those records.

When info exonerating them comes out, new armys who otherwise wouldn't have heard of them now want to rally for them. Also armys will rally, but won't hand BTS a fake victory cause they know how they feel about that sort of thing. We'll send the cookies, not the $.

A few months ago, radio dj’s wouldn’t play one Charlie puths song ft. jungkook because THEY didn’t like the song even tho the radio station got so many requests to play the song, the radio station has always said that they are here to play music that the people want but this time the djs proved that they let THEIR bias/opinions play a part in the process of choosing the songs to play. I find this a bit upsetting because it goes to show that money & biased opinions play a big part on radio stations. If Charlie’s label had payed the radio station I believe the radio station would have played the song.

thanks for this vid, really got insight on the radio and music industry in america. I guess I'm just used to big radio hosts in my country being more like journalists and really taking their time to properly interview artists, so the lack of professionalism in BTS radio interviews I've seen in america always shocked me. But i guess it does make sense that if they don't earn or lose anything by doing the bare minimum, thats whats going to be the standard.

The Korean based artist from the 90s who paved the way for them to even do the things they do aren't shoulders they stand on? I could continue all day the shoulders they stand on. Unfortunately, any system is designed to have loopholes for wealthy to use. Cause they create them 🙈 I love that over the last few years BTS came to a realisation that they do not need the industry, the industry needs them. Because they are the trendsetters, their company HYBE allows them to do anything they want, and it pays off. 🔥 It's the loveliest middle finger ever. Also, all those stupid interviews stem from a fact that "boy band" is treated like a bunch of brainless guys being told what to do. Plus, automatically, if you don't speak English, you are treated like you are simple 😂 goes for all languages by the way (I speak a few and it happens with every new language speaker Vs native speaker).

Even when it comes to streaming, their streams are filtered ten times more than any other artist. I don't disagree with you at all about things being on steroids these days compared to before technology advanced. I mean, if they didn't filter their streams as much as they do- their numbers would be insane. But we actually have to stream even harder than anyone else because they filter them so hard. I think doing their ON promotions the filter rate got near 50%. At this point, the industries in both the west and their own country are actively working against them. You'll see it the more you learn and get into things. The amount of people over the years, past to the present, who will do absolutely anything to take our seven down it's... I don't even have words for it.

@@Jurnalist_ Assuming you’re talking about the comparison to the Beatles record in Taylor’s video-I took it as not really comparing BTS to the Beatles themselves and the work it took to make that record in that day and age but the comparison that no one had beat or matched it until BTS. That all the artists and groups that DO have the same benefits (and most with more than BTS) couldn’t/didn’t break it. That THAT is the impressive thing. Basically, the fact that all of these huge twenty-first century artists didn’t do it before them is the comparison I took. On another note, do you have a Spotify? Thank you for the insight, I learned a lot about music industry from watching this…you are honest and knowledgeable, which is rare to see in bts reactors nowadays. as a BTS army, I will do everything that I can to support BTS because what they and their music have done to the growth and health of my mental health, happiness, confidence are significant..I want to give them something back as a way to show my gratitude and love for them…most of the time there aren’t much I can do except to buy their physical/digital albums, merchandiser, as well as stream their contents..i do it sincerely because I love their music and them as a group and individuals regardless if it helps them to win some awards or charting, it is a bonus to me.. So, when we talked about the way the industry works yes streams from army can be considered as steroids..but on the other hand, those millions of streams came from the love army have towards the music and bts, which not many artists have should count for something too 😊 Once again, thank you..I enjoyed watching your videos and I always gain new knowledge from you..Borahae 💜 Oh, in an interview suga also said even though it is an honour to be called the Beatles of the 21st century, they prefer to be known as BTS of the 21st century..personally I think it was because they understood that it was different era, and the advantages/disadvantages in the industry are so different that it will be disrespectful to both the Beatles and BTS to be compared to each other..so please know that when you heard people/media compare them to the “legends” it is not their personal opinion as an artist..they remain 7 boys from Korea who loves music 😊

I don't get the whole fainting thing unless they're so exhausted from shouting, singing, lack of water, over heated due to being pressed by a crowd. BTS concerts are well organised with good crowd control and usually the fans themselves are extremely respectful to each other. I've been to BTS concerts in huge stadiums and the behaviour of both staff and ARMY has been brilliant. People even handing out water bottles free of charge for people who might be suffering from lack of water or starting to feel a bit too hot.

A real good take on these unspeakable truths in the industry👍🏻 Regarding the fainting thing (I’m not saying that those fans didn’t pass out by just seeing MJ)… but to put in some more perspective, i think you should acknowledge ARMYS FANDOM CULTURE.. ARMY cultivates a culture of respect.. towards BTS and between ARMYS… in concerts, you will see fans organising lines/vehicle traffics even, helping each other to get tickets/seats/merch, gifting other armys merch/albums, passing water to those under the sun, making sure each and everyone is safe… both BTS and the fandom strive for this…in fact their last BUSAN concert organised by the govt in their bid for WORLD EXPO was supposedly be held in an open space to make it like a festival but fans all over the world rallied for it to be transferred to a more secure and safe stadium… since there are lots of security and safety issues regarding the initial venue.. ARMYS look out for other ARMYS.. it’s very rare fan culture actually.. korean fans taking time to find suitable transport and accommodations for international ARMYS.. Fan pages providing infos and safety measures before and during concert, as well concert etiquette… BTS & their mgt seeing the standing floor crowd decided not to forego on their plan to have the makeshift train to go around just to avoid fan from getting squeezed.. These are just few examples on how BTS and ARMY have these mutual desire to care and respect each other… although we have these outliers, but we never acknowledged them as ARMYS.😅

Loved your additions to this info. Totally get your points. …& yes, there are a % of toxic weird people in our fandom too. We have to curate our social media to avoid them. The majority of us are full of respect for BTS & their art though. (Don’t think we don’t lose it over the aesthetics though 🤣) While I know how to effectively stream the latest BTS releases to support them in the charts, I especially love being ‘between’ new material cos then I just play whatever BTS music/content I like non stop, from whatever album/era/genres. They have such an extensive & varied discography I am spoiled for choice. Thanks for another great reaction & commentary.

I understand what you are saying about the comparison as I was born in 1960. I love BTS as a fan I appreciate their struggle and what they went through, but I also understand what artist like MJ and Stevie went through to get where they were. I love you taking the time to be honest and express your point of view. I have learned in life we just can’t hear something and say this is truth we must taken in all the information before coming to and educated decision. Am someone who has spent more money on BTS then any artist or group in my lifetime them and Rod Stewart, MJ and I never brought merch for the later two just CDs and I went to one of Rod Stewart and MJ’s concert. I’ve done 4 BTS, 2 online and 2 love and got so must BTS merchandise that my daughters asked if they are family because I got their pics up in my sewing room.
