Hey, so glad to see the flooding is back under control. Loved today's walk by the river I remember reading about that story a few years ago on Reddit (r/Thailand page). Most people were calling BS on it back then as the girls and the boyfriend's stories kept changing. Apparently, one of the girls changed her story to they found the money in Sihanoukville and then brought it to Thailand to try to exchange it. Sound like a load of rubbish and a total scam. Like you say something like this would have definitely made noise in the Thai Media. Great stuff as always. I look forward to your videos.

I love your stories. I am glad I discovered your channel. My husband and I were expats for 3 years, 2002-2005 in Bangkok. My husband worked for IBM and his account was Kasikorn Bank, (I hope I spelled that right?). I loved living there but left some bad memories for me. The last time we visited Bangkok was 2016, while we were in the Philippines for a month. We went to ChiangMai too riding the local train. When I lived in Bangkok, I always take the ferry to shop in Chinatown, and always wonder why Chow Praya River is always brown color? I see kids swimming by the bank of the river. Nasty!!!

When I was a little kid and that's 50+ years ago, I was walking on the Ping River bed under Nowarat Bridge. LOL. I was not alone. There were a lot of people down there because the river was dry and it was Song Kran festival. It was a great time for me. Later when I was teenager in high school, me and my friends went to Chieng Mai for Song Kran again. This time we stayed at a Kindergarten belonged to a Chieng Mai friend's parents. The Kindergarten was on Chareon Prathet road and we swam in Ping River as well. We had a great time during the 2 weeks there. In the evening we dropped our coins into a juke box to listen to Crocodile Rock again and again at a street food stall. By the way, it is wellknown that counterfeit U.S. dollars usually come from Cambodia.

I recall reading the story in the Thai press. As you say, the source seemed to only be the US publication. Very fishy indeed. One angle that I seem to remember was that the fake money was meant to be of use at funerals so the deceased could be seen to be departing to his next life as wealthy. That is certainly true but could have been used to embellish the story for gofundme sympathy related purposes. Hope you get some useful feedback. Just recently subscribed and your vlogs are extremely interesting.

I wish people would understand that Thailand, although it happens, is not the place for bullocks behavior, whether it's stealing, drugs or any kind of anti-social-deemed behavior is not becoming in any country, especially when you are a traveller. Not knowing the law is unfortunately no excuse for breaking it.. I may have sympathy for didn't-know'ers but the courts may not be so polite and it can ruin more than your vacation

Any farang would know that they photocopy the notes and your passport before giving you the baht, so it doesn't make sense. You'd have to be pretty desperate to take notes you knew or suspected were false and try to change them. Every hotel records your details, so the local cops will pick you up instantly, or you'll get caught at the airport. Could you change notes in (say) Chiang Rai or Nong Khai and cross into Burma or Laos without going through a crossing? I don't know, but - again - you'd have to be desperate.

I'm sorry they got arrested in Thailand but I'm trying to understand why didn't they follow Thailand laws? You can't pretty much do the same behavior in USA in many other countries. Next time you plan on traveling, learn the laws before boarding the plane. I have a friend that lives near Chiang Mai, she told me no drugs at all (if you have paperwork that shows you have a reason to take such drug, show them otherwise you'll be arrested on the spot), don't appear looking for trouble, see something like money, or any sort of things that's not even yours, don't steal it, head to the police station, tell them you found whatever it is and they'll gladly take it and return it back to the rightful owner(s).
