We have NEVER had a Chip Butty before! Can Americans who've never had one, make a British authentic Chip Butty? We've tried quite a few british snacks but never the famous CHIP BUTTY! Today we are going to try not one, but 4 DIFFERENT KINDS! And we're going to make them from scratch (except the bread) ourselves! Join us as we stop at our local grocery store here to grab a couple things and then home to prepare & fry our chips and assemble our Chip Butty's! We're so excited! They ALL have salt & Vinegar and 1 will have HP Sauce, another with Ketchup, another with only Salt & Vinegar and lastly Natasha's Mayonnaise version. Let us know if we made these as authentic as possible. We hope you enjoy this and if you do please let us know and possible more cooking & food tasting videos will happen. This was so much FUN! Ladies This was a Masterclass! Please show this to all Americans react to British things! Most of us butter bread for our sandwiches but the whole point in a chip butty is to slather it on. The heat of the chips melts the butter and its just too yummy for coherent thought.😂

An excellent 1st attempt! A couple of points for you to try next time: Blanch the chips in oil at 130 deg Celsius (approx 260 deg Fahrenheit) to blanch them, just cooked through but no colour. Let them cool completely. Then fry at 180 deg Celsius (approx 360 deg Fahrenheit). When golden brown, lift and leave to drain over the pan, chuck them in a bowl and toss salt over to mix. The salt will soak up the excess oil. If your butter is un-spreadable, put it in a microwave on de-frost to soften, for only a few seconds at a time!

Having worked in a Fish & Chip shop as a teenager, I can say that it is better to get the oil nice and hot prior to adding the chips, as the hot oil actually helps ‘seal’ the chips. It does create more spitting from the oil however. Another thing to try next time, is to pre-cook the chips to the point where they’re barley cooked, then allow them to cool down completely before finishing them off in hot oil just before serving. This can help with getting more of a crispy coating on the chips, but it’s a personal preference, as some people actually prefer a slightly softer chip 🙂😋👍🏻

Great video, one point is that most reasonable sized UK supermarket chains all just sell alcohol on standard store shelves, Wines, Beers and most spirits. The rules are that you have to be over the legal age to purchase. Funnily enough cigarettes are normally sold at a special kiosk in the store which normally doubles as the stores’ customer service desk. So not sure why you were reticent about entering into the Kroger spirits section. 🤷‍♂️

Loving your reactions to the humble Chip Butty many of us Brits have grown up eating. We always have butter or margarine on sliced bread! Plus, you can mix and match the condiments you put on. I tend to place the sauces on the bread before the chips, making it easier to spread to all the corners, and you get the full flavour all over. Thin layer of Mayo on one side and HP on the other, then smash those chips in-between. YUM!

[even raw bacon / eggs / mushrooms into cold oil is bad in a f/pan - they turn out oil saturated] - as well as taking longer to heat up.... hot oil frying seals the outside of the chip for a crispy end product - and so less chance of chips being soaked full of oil ......

You win the International Chip Butty (American division) competition hands down! When there's only 3 major ingredients it's amazing that most reactors think they can change one of them and not compromise the finished sarnie. Those chips were A+ so you were off to a good start there, not using cake for the bread helped a lot too! Temperature and texture are the two major things and those looked good too, crispy but not too cripsy, hot enough to make the vinegar work it's magic.

I do like chips with mayo but not my preferred in a butty. The first Americans I have seen do a proper chip butty. Also I love that you both took good bites not nibbling. Myself I prefer a bit less salt but personal taste. One tip heat the oil first before lowering the chips into. I though think if you made those over here everyone would be happy with your butties. You are now an adopted Brit. Nice work ladies ❤

Chip shop chips, steaming hot with a bread bun from the chippie waiting at a bus stop shelter in the rain, hungry, very satisfying and comforting. That's part of the appeal of the chip butty, it's quick and comforting when you need some carbs

There’s just something special about HP sauce on a chip buttty. Well done ladies, great video

That brought back a lot of childhood memories. I’m finding it really strange how much I enjoyed watching you eating. I think I was remembering how much I enjoyed eating butties when I was a kid. It was great fun. Thanks for sharing that, it was wonderful.❤,❤,👏.

Those chips were cooked to perfection, just how my old mum used to cook them back in the day that you had nothing, but my mum always said that if you have potatoes and bread you would never starve, can’t beat a chip butty, great video ladies 👍🏽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸
