I’m not trying to be a jerk, but be careful with everything this person is saying. He has a bias to his Malinois. Much of the commentary is benign, but some of his comments are fairly inaccurate. To start, Malinois don’t enjoy dog parks, yet the owner keeps taking him there. Malinois want to work, and a dog park isn’t work for them. Navy Seals don’t like to train and hang out at donut shop with the local police department. Malinois were bred for a specific high octane duty, and a dog park is not even close to being on their bucket list. To a malinois, a dog park is like making an entrepreneur work in a corporate cubicle their whole life when they could go out in the field and absolute clean up. I recommend stop taking the malinois to the dog park, and give it the life it was bred for.

@@markhoffman I think it's kind of a weird statement saying "Malinois don't like the dog park, they want to work" Like, you don't know if he's working his Mal or not. He's probably just taking Ronin to the park to meet other dogs and get some video footage. Nobody knows what he's doing all of the other time. Yeah, Malinois are bred to be working dogs but they do fine living as family dogs, as long as they have a purpose and a task. And yes, most Malinois like meeting other dogs. They're social animals after all.

@@kiru_red4691 I know it’s not what people want to hear, but if you talked with most malinois owner they would confirm they don’t take theirs to the dog park. There are much better places to socialize a malinois. You can see in the videos that the ronin is panting a lot even without activity, it’s stressed a lot of the time it’s there.

Also, dog parks are wholly unnatural places. Tons of dogs in a relatively small space, accompanied by their owners, with some dogs thinking they're the protector of their humans, some dogs terrified by so many "dangers", etc. Also, that hierarchy stuff gets weird quick when you have over a dozen dogs all trying to sort themselves out. I'm with you, I don't think it's an overall healthy environment, but it can be OK if you are as fully dog language-aware as this guy here, I guess.

I suppose that reaction is because her dog wants to dominate my GSD/Malinois mix and everybody else in the universe. The dog scared the shit ou of my dog and _I_ had to tell her GSD to back off.

As they should. Too many owners, especially male owners, seem to enjoy their dog's manliness. This guy here seems to enjoy his big Malinois and his intimidation of other dogs. Like the proud father of the school yard bully. Reflected glory and toughness. Intact dogs (and unspayed female dogs) have NO business at the dog park.

@@nowyouredoingthesponge4644 Absolutely. He's obviously a good trainer. The problem is an intact dog brings drama and trouble. He may control his dog, but others will then be forced to jump in and get control of their dogs. Ronan may enjoy showing his skill and manliness in controlling his big dog, a real testosterone rush, but most people just go to the park to let their dogs play and get exercise. They're not looking for trouble. They're not looking to show off their skills. They're not shooting a video for tic toc or youtube. They're just normal people trying to let their dogs have fun. Now what had been a good time with happy dogs becomes a stressful time that everyone comes to dread because of one dog that brings intact energy.

First of all, letting your dog go inside the park with an excited, pacing behavior, was your first mistake. That caused problems. I don’t think you quite understand dog behavior as well as you think you do. That’s why the other dogs were acting like that towards your dog. You’re lucky he didn’t cause an all out fight. If you’d stayed, blood would have been drawn for sure.

I got to know the regulars and would drive away if the wrong owners were there. But my boy kept getting eye infections from the dog park so I stopped going. My vet says a lot of his business comes from sickness picked up at dog parks. FWIW.

I have been to a dog park once and don't plan to do it again. I took my 3 yo GSD, Sadie, to a park in Blacksburg, VA. She was playing with a young boxer, a dance mix, and a lab mix on the dogs over 60# side. She got tired and was lying under my picnic table while I was talking to the boxer's owners. A guy brought in a smaller dog (30-40#) into the large dog side. It was a male with the canine equivalent of short man syndrome. It immediately went over and bit the boxer. The boxer was shocked but didn't respond. Then it made the mistake of biting Sadie. Sadie had him on his back in less than a second. I'm just glad I was there to control the situation. We left the park after that but the owner of the smaller dog acted as if nothing had happened. Maybe I should have just let Sadie deal with that dog.

The selfishness of the owner not keeping their dog on a leash created the situation. But the sad part is the person who ran over the dog stopped going to the park with their dog. She said that she would think about the dog she killed and it would make her sick. Your videos are great, but you are being selfish and not respecting other people outside the park. Damn dog parks suck hahaha. So many socially illiterate dogs that ruin it for everyone there. If im honest with myself its at LEAST half of my visits to dog parks that result in something unpleasant happening because of one or more bad dogs

Belgian Malinois don’t enjoy dog parks. Surprised this owner doesn’t know that and keeps taking the dog there. Belgians like high octane activities including just the handler and the dog. The dog park is like going to the night club..and Malinois don’t like night clubs. Corgi’s like going to the night club! I would suggest you stop taking your Malinois to the dog park. Trust me, they aren’t missing out on anything.

You literally sound like a broken record. You come across to me as someone who has just read this information somewhere and this sums up the entirety of Malinois worldwide. Malinois were bred for certain things, fine. But that does not define the dog. It needs high energy exercise and to be stimulated mentally. This doesn't always translate into police attack dog or bomb sniffer. Their needs can be met with other activities provided they are intense enough. Now just like humans, dogs have personality traits that make up 90% of who and what they are, and just like us they need downtime too. Since it's a family pet, it needs to be socialised regardless. Dog park is probably not the best place since they are easily exited but certainly not the worst way to socialise. The fact it's a puppy still. He shows great restraint. Which is a testament to the work this guy has done with him.

@@markhoffman My message is very clear. Stop acting like you're the authority on Malinois across the world, do you even own one? It honestly gets really aggravating when self confessed know-it-alls act like they know everything there is to know about dogs/breeds yet just seem to spout off the most basic of information readily available on the internet. You do understand that ALL dogs were bred with a specific purpose in mind right, and I'm sure throughout history said breeds haven't always followed their purpose, that being said, it doesn't matter if the owner strays from what is considered the dogs purpose as long as the animals is given adequate and fulfilling activities. Most Bully breeds have a history of pit fighting, and if their history is to be believed they were bred for that specific purpose, does that mean the breed needs to fight constantly????? I think we both know the answer to the question. Being closed off to what an animal can be is ignorant and imo people like you are part of the problem. We need to have a more expansive mindset in order to afford our animals the care and respect they deserve. Pigeon-holing them all into one breed acting like neither one of them is an individual and/or have the capacity to break the mould isn't doing anyone any favours. Least of all, them.

@@robertshaw3619 my comments stay the same, and the malinois continues to be stressed at the dog park, regardless of your long winded drivel. And no I don’t own a malinois because it wouldn’t get what it needs in our family environment. We would have to radically change our lifestyle just to fit the dog. And that’s unfair to my family and the dog.

So you go to dog parks to make videos. All your subtitles should say, I am an egotist projecting through my dog who has learned he is supposed to run around asserting his dominance over other dogs while daddy narrates. Dumb and dangerous!

All the signs you attributed to aggression or actually signs of play. What do you have is your aggressive dog misreading, another dog, and becoming the aggressor. It’s probably due to the fact that you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing reading dogs body language, and are imprinting that onto your dog.
