The 5th Beatle, Billy Preston, American, comes into say hello, not knowing he was needed on piano and electric piano, which made all the difference in the world when it came to Beatles 1969 Get Back Album. You can see in all their faces the impact Billy Preston made right off the bat. Made all the difference in the world, and The Beatles put Billy Preston's name on their Get Back Album, also producing Billy Preston's future albums. When John Lennon says "I Wish I Had Yesterday's Voice With Today's Backing" he's referring to Billy Preston showing up to say hello while being in London with Ray Charles. After stating they needed a piano player for many of their songs, and told Billy you can take some back with you to try and get a feeling for them, Billy said let's do it now, and you can tell by the looks on all their faces when Billy opened up with his immediate rendition of piano on the songs they asked him to play. In my opinion, this man saved that album by stopping in to say hello. The Beatles rewarded this by putting his name on the Get Back Album and signing him to record Billy's upcoming albums with Apple Records. Good for Billy Preston and Good on the Beatles for doing the right thing!

Great description in the notes you wrote. I didn’t know much of this until I watched Get Back doc. You’re spot on about the Beatles doing the right thing for/by Billy. I’m not sure if you are American or not. But adding in the way they treated Billy Preston in the context of what was going on in America in the 60s gives me goosebumps considering all the strife that was happening with people that looked like Billy all over the states that point. Says a lot about the Lads from Liverpool.

Yes, I'm very American, as you could probably tell? Yes, you're correct! Spot on were the bunch across the pond from us known as the Beatles who have and had an affinity for American music, particularly the Rolling Stones, as it pertained to Blues music. However, it's good to see different people from different countries helping one another out in their professions and the credit being put out to the public or world for all to see. Good on the Beatles to give him the credit he deserved...Great bunch of guys...

So in this rehearsal is Billy Preston playing a portable organ or is it an electric piano I can't tell?

Electric Piano. You'll hear Harrison say "Man that electric piano has a really nice sound". He even asks him which cords are these? Playing the piano or electric piano in the studio

I really want to get this commented and I realize comments and opinions are like .. belly buttons. That's the nice way to say it LOL. I was watching a similar video on my phone and because I didn't favorite or give it a thumbs up I wasn't allowed to comment also I don't have enough space on my phone anymore to have the KZread app which I love, most of the time. So I have to watch KZread to save space off of a browser. It's a very different experience and it sucks. So I'm going to get my thoughts in unfortunately not the way I want to I'd rather watch a video and comment but I suspect that this video is very similar to the last one that I looked at and can't find my way back to. I have a good idea Billy Preston's history going back to the age of 10 and being a phenomenal musician. I also acknowledge that don't let it be project it before the Beatles in 1969 was challenging although not as negative as the first film about that album called Let It Be Peter Allen did a much better job you see Goodwill between the musicians. You see somebody that must be those fans thought of as the devil, yokohana basically doing the same thing that Paul's wife was doing which is just hanging out and listening to the music and not getting involved in the creation aspect. God knows the last thing I want to hear is Yoko oh no sing on any album. And I wasn't a big fan of Linda McCartney and her keyboards but she was less of a pain in the ass. And Paul loved her just as John loves his wife. But yeah that album probably either wouldn't have been made or would have been at a much lower quality without Billy Preston you can see and Peter Allen's documentary that one Billy Preston stepped into the room the vibe changed. And he was so damn good at what he did his vocals his keyboards and it added something to what they were doing. And I think it excited them. I know there was talk of making him the fifth Beatle. But in the end they were ready to separate and we have to appreciate what is left Behind rather than bitch and moan that they broke up too early. Remember in that era bands were lucky if they lasted 2 years. These guys if you include where they were making their chops and Hamburg and it seems like everybody of that generation was playing Western Europe close to the border with the Soviets, I know they weren't making a lot of money I know none of them were having a whole lot of fun but they brought a lot of joy to people that lived in a precarious situation. Maybe that's why there was so much alcohol abuse in that area and at that time. But the idea of musicians earning their chops is extremely important from Bruce Springsteen to Johnny Cash you got to go out and learn first to cover other people and then develop your own stuff and play it live. Just like any other job with the skill and with intuition you get better. Auto tune and beat whatever it is has just killed music also the producers have killed music because basically they've insisted on using certain keys and chords and they've taken the Artistry of music. They just want what polls well I think one of the last pop, rock albums that was mostly organic was Alanis Morissette and Jagged Little Pill. I didn't know for 15 years that flea played based on that album but I always love that album and I loved her and I always loved Let It Be. I love the rooftop concert I always have and it amazed me that there's one song where John plays lead guitar. Peter Allen's documentary shows why that happened because George left for a short period of time. And I get it. George had been treated like a child to some extent. Yeah you're very talented but just do what you're told. Yet if you look at the last two Beatles albums especially the last album The Best Song comes from George. But the rooftop concert because they had stopped touring I think in 1966, it's the last time we get to see them as a band. And it's pretty cool that they decided just do something public where they weren't making money. Granted it's easy to do that when you have a shitload of it but they didn't have to put that concert on and they did and they played live and it was amazing also you have to remember that that was a time frame where because of Technology the best they could do was overdove, John was insecure with his voice and in the studio with overdub his voice because for some reason he didn't think it was good enough. But most albums of that era were basically the band walking into the studio and recording. Just push play. It's that simple whether it's to be those are the stones or a few years later the who or Bruce Springsteen or my man Stevie Wonder. Talking book is a phenomenal album and when you consider the disabilities that Stevie lived with then and now it makes it even more meaningful but if he had full site it would still be an outstanding album. Anytime somebody has that much heart and soul and the lyrics are that great and the person is able to play almost every instrument in the song which is very difficult to do just from a planning standpoint. Lay down the base lay down the drums lay down the keyboards Etc and I think that Billy Preston in his own humble way who was a very cool guy but very humble, I brought that to let it be. And I'm glad he did:-) I miss him I really do. I'm sorry that he left us earlier than he had to. I bought this group of not four but five Fab musicians put on a hell of a concert and shook up the establishment and not that I think that was there intent but if the old timers walking around didn't like it sorry buddy we have a concert going on. I can't imagine what it was like for Brett's walking around London around the Apple Studio and hearing that and at first not knowing what the hell it is and then when they figure out what it is just chilling out and stopping their day and listening to a free concert by their beloved band. And my beloved band. I'm going to watch this now cuz I probably won't get an opportunity to make another comment. Like I said if you don't have the app on your phone you don't get to comment. And if your phone doesn't have the space you have to make decisions on what are the apps you want versus what are the app she need. I would prefer for us all to still be talking to still talking to one another and maybe watching a conversation about this on the old Dick Cavett Show. John was very comfortable there and that's probably because he and Yoko moved to New York after the Beatles broke up. And John like New York and as sad as it was that he lost his life there as somebody that grew up in the Northeast especially during that time, most people knew to leave celebrities alone. I can remember being 7 years old with my father in Manhattan and saying a celebrity too and my dad might point the person out but also say leave them the F alone. I've only had a few conversations with people you might call celebrities because I'm respectful of their space. And I don't want them to be turned off by people that like them and therefore maybe put them in a place where they shut down. I've been to 20 Springsteen concerts if I saw Bruce in a bar I might say hi to him just like anyone else I might say hi to. But I wouldn't tell him how much I appreciate him or what I loved about his last album Etc. It's basically up to that person if they want to engage in a conversation. Not because they're God or special, but because so many people want to speak with them I can't imagine what that's like to go to a public place and not be left alone. For people just to assume you want to hear their point of view. I remember an old Johnny Carson Story where a guy asked him for his autograph while he was still at the urinal. And this is all pretty

Okay, wow, that's a lot. I'll have a more in-depth on how Billy really saved the Get Back album. Very soon on here, if KZread doesn't take it down and ignores my arguments about copyright infringement? It goes way further than this clip, which KZread took down, and I won the appeal. The one coming will be far lengther with the actual video proof.
