I, for one, would like to THANK YOU for NOT speeding up the taxi/takeoff like so damn many other airplane video makers do...

You know you are getting old when the plane that made you nostalgic for the DC-9 is being retired.

Americans union killed the 717-100 [aka MD95-10] and United among others wanted a 717-300 [aka MD95-40] - Boeing said no and those became 737-600's instead

I had the privilege of riding one of American's long-range MD-83 aircraft SEA-DFW once many years ago. The throttling up and down of the JT8Ds when landing time came stuck with me particularly. What a terrific sound and a legendary aircraft. Wish American had given a bit more acknowledgement to this final flight.

Same here. I did ORD-SEA and STL-YVR on the MAD DOG. Some of the best flights I can remember.

7:40 You can see the air start cart at 3:15. Broken APU means ground power and air stay connected until the engine is up and running allowing the aircraft to supply its own power.

Classic MD80

Sooo close to getting a face reveal! 😬😂 Anyway, looked like an awesome day of flying for such a special flight. And I still can’t believe the crew didn’t say anything about the significance of it! Oh well - glad you got the opportunity to be on the last one. The bonus footage of the landing at DFW (from what I assume is Founders Plaza) was a huge plus!

One of these days It'll happen :b I was anxiously waiting for a speech from the captain, which never happen. The afterparty at DFW made up for it for sure. I was hoping you'd be able to join us, but your video made up for it!

First jet I flew on was an American MD-80 in 1985. Before that, I'd never been on a commercial jet. I had only been on the C-5 with my dad when he was in the Air Force. This was an amazing video and the MD-80s hold a special place in my heart. When I was in the military, I came home from deployment on the evening of Christmas Eve, 2012. We flew American all the way back to California when we arrived back on US soil. We flew the Mad Dogs from Baltimore to Sacramento via DFW. I forgot how smooth they are in flight! Really gonna miss them for so many reasons. We will probably never see another airliner built like that again (except the Canadair jets, but they obviously pale in comparison)....

I made three guest appearances in your video!! It was an awesome flight. Definitely a memorable experience.

I’d take the Mad Dog any day over some lame boring A321 or 737. Seeing the MD-80s at Dallas Fort Worth Airport Is a timeless classic. Thanks MD-80 for several years of safe and reliable service. You’ll always be in our hearts.

My best friend and I were On this flight with you...thank you for preserving the memories! Though we were practically shunned by AA staff, Our collective enthusiasm was wonderful!

N970TW was my last MD-80 too! I have a movie about it! Nice vid by the way!

We will never see the beloved Silver livery again. The MD-80's were the last to use the Silver livery and it just look so beautiful as the Philippine Airlines livery (which fortunately didn't change their livery yet).

This was very interesting, I have flown on American airlines several times in recent years and I have not flown on an MD80. I actually had thought that they had been retired already. I worked the ramp with Alaska airlines from 1987 to 1993 working with their MD80's and I can remember American also having many MD80's coming and going back then. I'm glad that they kept it with the original AA colors they always had sharp looking airplanes. I always enjoyed working with MD80 airplanes, I have lots of great memories of working with them back in their hay day, I'm glad that I was part of it. Thank You for making this video, I enjoyed it very much.

I will miss these MD-80’s. I’ve flown on countless flights on these over the years mostly with TWA and American, and to a lesser extent US Air and Hawaiian. I’ve been through some of the worst weather conditions on MD-80’s, and the plane always did well in turbulence and bad weather conditions. Also super reliable: an MD-80 flight was seldom delayed due to mechanical problems, and I can’t remember ever having an MD-80 flight cancelled due to a mechanical. But it’s one of those things in life that I took for granted: I didn’t realize how much I liked it until it was gone. At least we can still fly them on Delta for a little while longer.

What great video, thank you for sharing. I have a American Airlines MD-82 tail registration number N488AA which had for I think 4 years. This was a nice design as the Boeing 727-200 was which is my first favorite plane.

I worked at LAX in '80 when PSA was one of the launch MD-80 operations. They talk about it being loud - it wasn't. It has had a great career with very few mishaps. In the military version, the "Nightengale" was an important link and our aerial hospitals save many lives. Thanks Douglas, McDonnell, Boeing, and the operators. Keep up the great work.

I flew MD-80 from ORD-SFO non stop. It was a red eye flight. I liked the seating arrangement. Such a great ✈️

The MD-80 was the first plane I got to fly in. Sad to see them go! However, I did get to watch the final takeoff from Tulsa international today.

Thank you for no music or talking. Jeb and Skyline Production both talked and played music the whole time so it killed the experience. Thank you!! I'm taking my last MD 88 flight on Delta next month from TPA-ATL. The JT8D engines have been on the DC 9, MD 80 and the 737-200 Combi.

I flew on the MD-80 in December 2015 from DFW to Austin. Unfortunately it was only a 40 min flight so I could not enjoy the MD-80 much. Amazing review! RIP MD80😢

Thanks for honoring this classic airliner. I have great memories of flying TWA's MD-80's in First Class years ago. Like the 727, sitting up in the front was noticeably quieter. Those were the days one received friendly service from the FA's and decent meals even on short flights. I really get depressed seeing how the cabin service has deteriorated, especially on domestic flights. Quite disheartening that American didn't do more to commemorate this historic flight. They will really be missed!! I remember flying on those since the late 80's and 90's in Delta Airlines, Aeromexico, and AA. And their AA and Mexicana 727's back in like 1984 and 1985.....I also remember watching this ones flying over Tucson AZ everyday , coming from DFW..

Sad occasion, but beautiful sunrise over the Sandias!ABQ is the city that made me fall in love with the west. My dad was a Delta pilot, originally from NYC.The first time he took off oit of Albuquerque, he circled up to clear the mountains. Lol,the copilot said"those only go up to 11,000 feet"-my dad wasn't taking chances. He used to fly to Santa Fe too,which is a bitch to fly in and out of. And for the av geeks,he retired flying L1011s internationally for Delta in 1991. I am going to ABQ in October to hike the southern Rockies and see the golden aspens . Anyhoo,thanks for the awesome video!

I've now been in two of your videos inadvertently! I also was in 1st class on the A321neo inaugural PHX-MCO in first class. I'm at 2:20 in the checkered shirt. Coincidentally... Same shirt in the other video too!

I remember riding those as a kid growing up in El Paso, TX. I'd always ride these to DFW when going on vacation with my family. So sad how this aircraft is now retired.

I flew on an Air Canada DC-9 to Newfoundland in the 60s and on ( if anyone remembers) Allegheny Airlines DC-9 to Philadelphia in the late 70s. I’ve always loved the DC-9/ MD80. Now bring on the CS100/A220!

Wonderful video! I did my last trip DFWTULDFW on Aug 31. I was lucky, the seats were actual AA seats with the movable headrests...I'm surprised how many planes still have the cheap TWA interior such as you (though reupholstered). They did an air start at the gate at ABQ, APU could have been inop or not blow hard enough to start.

It's a shame that boeing stopped making this type of aircraft after they merged with MD, and the 717 is a great jet too. They shouldn't be fazed out.

@@andersonrodriguez8258 the 717 was designed by MD. It was originally intended to be marketed as the MD-90, but the merger happened and they changed the name to the 717. The 717 is not like a Boeing at all. Everything about it is different from mainline products. That's why they stopped making it.

Even though I never flew the AA maddogs (I have flown Delta’s) I am truly sad to see this era of aviation landing. Once delta retires theirs in 1-2 years there will truly be no maddogs in the air (except maybe charter or private). Thank you for bringing us along with you. What a sad day.

Flew DFW-AMA-DFW for one of the last MD-80 flights... nothing too special from DFW or AMA. After landing in AMA, there were a few cars sitting by the exit taxiway. Really gonna miss these planes.

You never value an experience until after the chance to do it again is gone. My first MD-80 ride was on N9405T 'Flagship Tulsa', which I rode from ABQ to DFW. Video on my channel! The MD-82s and -83s provided a great experience, and stood out from the increasing number of 737s and A321s at AA. It was comfortable, quick, and frankly, it sounds sweet. I will miss the S80s. I do hope a few are preserved

So sad to see these go, I remember seeing all the old American planes at DFW and Miami.

I flew in this Aircraft when I went to basic training.

I never forget my first jet flight (my first flight was on a DC-3, so don't laugh), the plane was a DC9- Super 80 (later called MD-80) from Aeromexico. Unfortunately I enjoyed these planes for a short time because they changed for the shorter DC9-32. I never thought that these planes would last longer in service than the 727.

One of my first flights was back with Aeromexico's MD80, flew it between Leon and Mexico City. Quite surprised about that too, sadly, I was never able to fly a 727.

Actually it’s easy to see why the MD-80 outlived the 727: money. The MD-80 had one less engine, and one less cockpit crew (no flight engineer). Big cost saving with those two right there.

Just flew the AA MD 80 from GRR to DFW last month. Not a fancy plane, but it will be missed!

The planes are now in the desert. Either at Edwards Air Force Base, New Mexico, Yuma, Tucson, Tolleson, Arizona. Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.

I miss the AA old livery. It was the best.

Truly sad to see. I have 2 shots from the ground of these AA planes but I never got to experience it. I have however gotten to sit in the back of a Delta MD88 and that was a cool experience sound wise.

I'll tell you theres one group of people happy to see this plane retire and they are the crews working them. This is one less plane they have to know backwards and forwards. Every year flight crews ( flight attendants ) get tested on each type of aircraft American flies. They have to pass an FAA certified test. Its a challenge to know EVERY airplane American flies. Plus that back door operation was a bitch! MD-80... nice knowing you..... RIP

It was only a matter of time. MD-80s are considered obsolete in the Aviation field. Plus, planes can only fly for so many years. I think the A-380 can only fly for like 20-30 years and then they have to retire it.
