American Airlines Fined $4.1 Million For Unlawful Tarmac Delays
Ойын-сауық
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued an unprecedented fine of $4.1 million to American Airlines for violating a rule that prohibits tarmac delays of over three hours on domestic flights without passengers being given the opportunity to deplane.
Following an investigation, the it was revealed that 43 flights by American Airlines had breached the rule between 2018 and 2021. The majority of the delays occurred at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the carrier's largest hub. None of the valid exceptions, including safety and security reasons, were applicable in these cases, and on one of the 43 flights, passengers were not provided with food and water, as required.

I wish all that money actually goes to the flying customers that are actually being inconvenienced.
$4 million? That’s 12 hours of revenue for them

The hourly revenue for American Airlines is $5.59 million. It takes about 46 minutes for them to earn that revenue. Note that is revenue, not profits.
Million dollar fines is the only way the airlines will stop doing this.

Not really. They will just right it off of their tax bill.
This is the biggest EVER fine issued by the USDOT.. so you can imagine how bad you’d have to screw up
2018? The Feds need fining for taking five years to do their job.
United and American are famous for blaming delays on "inclement weather" that doesn't exist in order to try and avoid these fines.
OK, so the government gets $4 million. Do the affected passengers get anything at all???
Shakedowns are despicable These regulations will lead to more cancelled flights which is far worse than waiting 3 hours on plane to the vast majority of the public..
They gotta do this to united
$4.1M USD? Drop in the bucket of what their next taxpayer-funded bailout will be.
Why leave the gate if you can't takeoff
This is why Southwest taxis so fast, minimum time on the ground.

Yet they have one of the worst ontime records in the business.
Lol😂 1:28 Well it seems they nearly always disappoint their customers despite their aim. Why do airlines not experience the same delays so regularly at airports outside the USA? Why is it that airline’s operating domestically in the US so often fail in customer care and welfare?
I will fly Delta.
OMG I LOVE SIMPLE FLYING!!!!
whats the name of the song used in the video?
I think it's good that they seem to be taking care of passenger needs. Now they need to start pressuring airlines to stop overbooking flights.
$4.1million is chicken change, it should have been fined $41.0million. 😋

That sounds like the airlines going to sue the federal government for unlawfully charging them that much…
