Protest songs are the MOST patriotic songs.

The problem is the group that doesn’t understand that this is a protest song lmao

@@Dookieryan Yup. It's a protest song. When Bruce plays it live, he plays it in a slowed down blues style with haunting slide guitar --- so there can be no mistake.

You have to disguise protest as patriotic to avoid censorship. Sadly.

I mean it's not really disguised, it's just that many US "patriots" are too dim to realise what it really says.

6:13 - There was no Vietnam War in the Reagan years! The war ended in 1975. Reagan wasn't president until 1981. Nixon had abdicated and Ford was president when Saigon fell. Then came Jimmy Carter and THEN Reagan. Jeez lady!

Bruce Springsteen opposed Trump using his song "Born in the U.S.A." at Trump's political rallies in 2016. Rather than take legal action, he openly announced his support for Trump's opponent, Hillary Clinton, and campaigned in support of her.

I would consider it vey patriotic, because it was about the country and love and desire for it. He certainly wasnt putting it down. I remember all that and saw that tour. I got Bruce's views. And I loved it when he pushed back when reagan tried to coopt the music for his political spin and use. The comparison of the two is interesting. Ronnie wanted the 1950's hollywood concept, aspire to better and almost ignore reality, think of the future. Bruce was similar to the 70s non Hollywood glitz, director films, like deerhunter or other gritty real life films, seeing American life for what it is . That was the mood of the late 70s and early 80s, basically post vietnam and a hard economy. I wonder if bruce didnt have the US flag used so much if the songs would have been viewed differently back then. I thought it was a bit too much. . The songs were coopted by a type of flag waving patriotism. But bruce certainly has patriotism and a love for his people and country.

The more I listened to Bruce and any other rockers since 1983 the more conservative I became. Their political views mean nothing to be and could not make up my mind for nothing

And Trump was when it finished. Thank God Trump is gone and once he’s in jail for insurrection and stealing democracy, we can start to recover… Reagan would despise Trump for desecrating the GOP.

Reagan literally fixed inflation, unemploymentand and had the lowest misery index in 20 years during the 80s. The song is great, but it´s more about the 70s, than the 80s itself. Reagan was really popular in the working class, he won with 525 electoral votes and 58% of the popular vote in 1984 (also had one of the highest approval ratings when he left office).

90% of the comments here are entirely too political rather than centering on the music & the absolute brilliance of Springsteen’s songwriting and his ability to bring people together in the name of love, passion and reflection of life. Obviously, Springsteen swings left, but there’s no reason for so much animosity. If you don’t like the message change the channel. The political right is so aggressively verbal about their anger & discontentment. Just looking for any target to bash in the name of WOKE OR DEMOCRAT OR LEFTIST OR LIBERAL because their own political leaders are a bunch of blithering idiots! Good luck in court…

Bruce is rock music for adults, for people with adult problems. Bruce says he grew as a musucian by listebing to US country music: divorce, lost jobs, kids whse needs you cant meet. Bruce takes adult life seriously.

I have a complaint about this video. Overall I liked it, just like I've liked the past few videos of his I watched this evening. But playing that music over the talking was so distracting. Like it's hard for me to focus on him talking about Springsteen's first two albums while he's playing Glory Days.
