America's Diversity Gives Us Strength: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month | More in Common

Ойын-сауық

Established over 50 years ago by President Lyndon B. Johnson, September 15th marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. It coincides with the independence days of seven Latin American countries and kicks off a nation-wide celebration of Hispanic food, music, history, and dance. In this episode, we explore a few of the incredible stories that show just how rich America's Hispanic culture is. From a family of young Norteno musicians honoring their heritage to children bridging the U.S.-Mexico border with sports, these stories celebrate just how much stronger our diverse nation is together.

Pick a country my friend. It's vivo Mexico but I'm guessing you take advantage of the US economy. Other than that you have no allegiance to the United States?

Why is it that hispanics throw a big festival or celebration of their heritage every year in the U.S but never back in their own countries??? I guess it's true when they say it's all smiles & happy faces only on the side where the grass is green.

The fact that they’re still referred to as ‘Mexican’ by other Americans even when they’re born in the US might be why. You don’t claim them, so they don’t claim you.

Well 'king ervin', if you're Black and loooove hispanic heritage month, than you should realize that there are over 80 million Spanish speaking latinos of African descent in over 13 countries that face racism, bigotry, hatred and discrimination on a regular basis by the larger latino/hispanic neighborhood.

@@macatl3923Hispanic is more than just Spanish-Speaking. You don’t need to speak Spanish to be Hispanic. It is an ethnicity or just anyone born of Spanish-speaking origins. I know that most Hispanics speak Spanish, but the ones like me or this guy that don’t shouldn’t be deemed not Hispanic. As long as you embrace your home culture that you were born in, then you are Hispanic.

Indegeneity you mean. Hispanics are almost all people of Native American decent. Simply they speak Spanish, instead of English like in North America, because the Europeans who conquered Natives in the rest of the Continent were mostly from Spain.
