    @@m2hmghbthere's still the issue that besides the weapon system in the next video aka the accidental war crime stick, we don't use any of these. You need to implement the improvements otherwise it's a waste of time and resources. Like I hope they recreate a non-warcrime version of the war crime stick because that was awesome.

    Some of the tech has been iterated on. The polymer case ammunition has been in development since then. Not every project has something that pays off - but you don't know until you do it. It's just like sometimes you design a building then you build it only to find there's a flaw and it has to come down. I don't like open development contracts - but sometimes that's how you get the cool gear.@@codyraugh6599

    I was shocked at how universal the weed-whacker saw-blade thing is. I've done it, and it seems like almost every other guy who watches these videos has done it too. I asked my dad and my cousin after seeing the original video for the first time, and they'd both tried it too. I guess it's just one of those things that just about every guy does, like that whole "thinking about the Roman Empire" thing that's trending right now.

    Oh you can I fact do it, just need washers, especially if you mock it up and stitch them down with a welder…so everything lines up…but don’t do that, it is hideously effective, also very terrifying to use. Especially when the blade catches and “kickbacks” like a chainsaw, but now you are grim reapering to the side. With a literal death/dismemberment scythe and your on the wrong end of lever, so you really can’t stop it, not effectively anyways.

    Well the Zumwalts are still pretty impressive for the time. But a bunch of things that the design was originally supposed to do was cut for budget restrictions and so it became a stealth destroyer that was supposed to field a rail gun which never happened and because they only made two of the ships, everything about them became more expensive. The ammo for the guns and also maintenance costs.

    I think OldMan's point is that now if the shooter's aim sucks, he wastes 3 bullets on every miss instead of getting to try again for each one... or something like that.

  • @Ariquetz

    @Ariquetz

    9 ай бұрын

    @@RipOffProductionsLLCExactly this. The gun would be TOO accurate. It’s the same reason why it’s better for things like the Saw or any other MG to still shoot relatively accurately, while still having a bit of variation for where the bullet goes. For starters you might suppress the target which is always nice. But if your first shot misses, then the second to however many you fire might actually hit the target. It’s a waste for the final two bullets if the first misses and they all hit the same spot. Now that’s not to say accuracy is bad. It just has to be applied in the right situation in order for it to be effective. The inverse of this problem actually happened with the M16 and was a big reason why it became a 3 round burst for example.

  • @anzaca1

    @anzaca1

    @@RipOffProductionsLLC True, but the same would happen with ANY gun firing a 3-round burst.

  • @RipOffProductionsLLC

    @RipOffProductionsLLC

    9 ай бұрын

    @anzaca1 technically not, the G11's whole complex system involving its recoil is to try to keep all 3 bullets hitting the sane spot, while other burst fire rifles have extreme spread due to the recoil of each shot effecting the gun and the shooter. Some would argue that in battlefield conditions, such spread is a feature, not a bug.

  • @anzaca1

    @anzaca1

    6 ай бұрын

    @@RipOffProductionsLLC No, the spread absolutely does not help. Unless the target is very close, a spread just means less rounds hitting the target. The idea behind the G11 is that for every correctly-aimed shot, you now have 3 rounds on target instead of just 1.

    y'see, the Zumwalt's were actually a great idea, a dedicated land attack vessel to replace the recently retired Iowa-class BB's, and the AGS *would* have been a more cost effective option for shore bombardment, compared to launching multimillion dollar cruise missiles. The problems started when the Navy cancelled all but three of the ships. When that happened, the company manufacturing the rounds for the AGS had to increase the price-per-unit, in order to cover R&D costs, which in turn caused the Navy to cancel the LRLAP program, and not buy any more of the shells, depriving the Zummies of their primary armament, rendering them useless.

    Im going to go out on a limb and say. Slightly couter to the vid. 16:36 The caseless ammo and polymer case ammo fleshette rounds were good experements in advancing gun tec. Was the results worth the cost to tax payers. No probably not. However was this sort of program woth trolling the Soviets with. "Possibly" the budget is kinda tame by cold war standards anyway. If one of those guns/ ammo types had actually worked out. This would be a different story. However I definitely agree with other commentors. A better defined results and restrictions would definitely have lead to better results. But caseless or polymer ammo is likely to actually be developed now. Cheaper / less heavy rounds would be better in every combat environment. Eventually the patents on the ammo will run out and a caseless round or a improved polymer ammo will actually work out. Though i suspect the polymer ammo will be the hardest to make work. The fleshette rounds, higher muzzel speeds and caseless rounds. All seem to be really interesting ideas that got a big boost of the program. Was this tec boost worth the cost. No However. Darpa and the spend thrifts over in the defense department are the ones that invented the internet, the micro chip, the long haul cargo air plane. At least in the modren era. Conflict and war drive tec development. I am willing to bet that because of attempting to solve the polymer melting / hearting issues. We have gotten a heat resistant polymer that has shown up in other things. Or things like that.
