    It's sad to see Amelia Earhart's flight end the way it did. She was such a talented and gifted aviator. In 1964, my ship was patrolling the Caroline Island group south of Guam. As we patrolled, we received a radio call from a woman flying an attempt to recreate Amelia's flight. That was a bit sobering to think back on these tragic events.

    To me the sunken aircraft looks like a swept-wing jet, maybe an F-86 Sabre. The Earhart hunter needs to rent a deep sea drone, which I think "only" cost about $1,500/wk. He should have done that before making his announcement.

    It was/is an interesting and hopeful theory, but from the jump TIGAR's "evidence" was overstated. Once you really look critically at what they've managed to come away with after *seven* separate, lengthy expeditions to the island, it becomes relatively evident that it has no basis in reality. I have no dog in the fight other than to say I hope her demise was swift, I simply cannot accept something for which there's really 0 evidence, unfortunately. Like so many famous cases with devotees, it appears as though TIGAR simply could not budge at all from their hypothesis. Whereas a lack of any evidence would make a scientific mind eventually form new theories, TIGAR got caught in that all-too familiar trap of transitioning from legitimate fact-finding missions to ramped up, heat-seeling confirmation bias parades wherein a fundamental lack of any evidence actually paradoxically (arrogantly) finds the researcher biting down on the rubber mouthpiece and doubling -down even harder, becoming even more averse to any contradicting information to the point they're actually out there covertly trying to shut down dissent by their responses when questioned about other search efforts. -the woman's shoe...a key piece of TIGAR's evidence, which was purportedly located back in the 1980s and is still inexplicably mentioned by every press outlet, was never actually produced by anyone. -the "make up jars" were actually a few bottles in a fire pit which appears to be from the 1920s and are not able to be definitively verified as having come from any specific western country. -the "freckle cream" jar may actually be just that, but it's far from definitive and besides...so what? -Piece her aircraft was eliminated by river pattern analysis 20+ years ago, but was then definitively proven as having come from a plane crash on a nearby island. -the bones of a purported castaway recovered in the 1940s were at that time demonstrated as having definitely belonged to a shorter, 5'6 inch male, but were then likely discarded. -the Noonan sextant box turned out to definitely not be Noonan's after all. So there ya have it. All the convincing evidence of her having been on Nikimururo. I won't even touch on the radio signals, as it is very normal for unsubstantiated rumors like the radio signals to crop up in the wake of an international tragedy or mystery.

    Almost all aircraft even back then had the parts with serial numbers on them that were matched to the aircraft in their maintenance logs. By bringing the parts up and finding serial numbers on them would help identify the aircraft. And I am guessing due to the popularity of the story all the documentation from the aircraft would have been saved from the maintenance facilities that the aircraft was worked on.

    I would assume he has more evidence than he’s letting known. I’m sure he has studied her plane and the images he has before claiming he has found it and going to the media. Just my opinion. I’m not saying it’s definitely her plane but would be kind of dumb of him to just find an image and assume it’s her without really looking deeper at the whole thing including the wings.

  • @Calibir1

    The airplane in the sonar image has swept back wings. Amelia Earhart's Electra did not. I don't think it would be due to the plane breaking up during the crash, as both wings in the image appear to be symmetrical. I also doubt that it is just a distortion in the sonar image - as again - the swept-back angle is symmetrical as well. I highly doubt that this is her plane.

    Here is why I'm doubtful right now: You have a target, but you only make one pass, one image of it. Never supply a moving video of the target, which would by necessity exist. What proof did they provide of anything else their company found, or did "of note" This seems like a search, not for a plane, but for money. All this hype over 1 photo. No thought to provide absolutely anything else they did there. Not even footage of them on the island. Nothing.

    I doubt very seriously this is Amelia's plane. When you look at the diagram of it, versus the sonar image, IF it's a plane at all the wings are angled more like a jet of some kind. Beyond that I don't see how you can say it's hers and not a plane of similar size. I fully admit I'm no expert, and I could be wrong, but I just don't see it. I think it's a lot of wishful thinking.

    I seriously doubt that her plane is lying intact at the bottom of the sea. It is more likely that they bailed out and the plane crashed down because attempting a soft unpowered landing on water would be too risky. 🤔

  • @ralphbooger4756

    "too risky"... really? 😂 and bailing out in the middle of nowhere over open ocean with about as close to zero chance of ever being found as you can get, is not too risky? maybe im wrong, but would they not have some sort of liferaft onboard? or maybe inflatable rafts were not a thing yet... either way, i do not think i would bail in that situation! id rather it all end on impact, but survival instinct would likely kick in and i would try to land it anyway. there really is no good option, but bailing would also mean a good chance of being separated too... and there you are all alone in the water just waiting for the inevitable.

  • @godfellas483

    @godfellas483

    @@ralphbooger4756 Parachutes yes. Life Raft very unlikely due to weight. They were on an ultra long distance mission. More weight onboard would consume more fuel. Pilots train for just such emergencies. Many pilots in WW2 bailed out. You obviously know nothing about planes and crew emergencies. Why would you post? We do not care what you "think" you would do...an unpowered water landing is an extremely difficult maneuver, and the chances are great for a complete breakup upon impact.

    Good for this guy. Seems like he’s got a sound view and approach. Especially like his blowing off the silly-but well-financed and endlessly hyped-TIGHAR claims. I say silly for this reason: it’s clear she was, at one point, close enough to Howland for a very strong signal. And she was low on fuel. Why then would she-and how could she-opt to abandon Howland…where there were lots of folks trying to help…and venture hundreds of miles south to find an uninhabited island and magically land, gear down, her long-since fuel-less plane nicely onto a miraculously runway-smooth and wide coral reef, fortunately at low tide. I guess she glided that last 50 miles and deadsticked it in, eh Ric? Oh and I guess she then luckily found some fuel cans on the island to run the engines for days Ric? I guess those cans were left by…Peter Pan? Bigfoot? Captain Nemo? Looking foward to more pictures from this serious gent.

Amelia flew non-stop from New Foundland to Iceland. How do you explain the credible radio transmissions on the evening of July 2 through July 5? Why to you discount, discredit the TIGHAR hypothesis?

I didn’t watch this one all the way through but did watch another interview. This man is unprofessional and has little tact. He has blown off other very extensive search results and finds to something as finding nothing more than a broken cosmetic jar. He has nothing to support his claim. Other researchers have hard evidence of things that were found that cannot be explained any other way but to say they point to Amelia. But I guess since he brought back this blurry image that could be a hundred different other kind of airplanes….this must be it. Don’t give this guy credit, applause, or even respect at this point.
