Big ooof on GPUs this holiday season; $500 for a 2019 graphics card? I remember 18 months ago the 5700 launching at $350 and bringing strong competition to the gaming market. Paying $490 for one right now is just another reason to hold off buying anything and waiting for the mad supply issues to blow over.

@@alop53O1 RTX cards are basically unavailable globally right now. Nvidia stopped making 2000-series 6 months ago and there's nowhere near enough 3000-series or 6800/6900 to go around. For the next three months, 5700XT is as good as it gets for most people which is probably why the price has gone up by $100 even though it's such an old card. Man, right now the best advice is simply to wait; Don't be impatient and just sit this round out with whatever GPU you're currently using :D

@@RealMTBAddict the 1050 doesn't hold up anymore. Its only 2gigs of vram. The gpu is where you put most of the budget, save money until you get a budget for a 300 dollar gpu at least

So... I went through your list and got the AMD setup... I received it all and plugged it all up and nothing. No LEDs or POST errors on the motherboard, no fans turning. Nothing. Power supply is fine. I thought a bad MB, replaced it. Same symptoms. No idea where to start troubleshooting now. Verified the cable continuity is good with voltmeter. Can anyone assist?

Question for any of you in the know. I have a very old gaming rig. It has an AMD 6950 HD video card. I want to build a new rig but the GPUs are hard to find right now. I was wondering If I was to just get all the other parts of the build, simular to one of the above builds, Would my old 6950 fit in those above or current motherboards? Would the pins be different or other issues? The card still works great, I would be happy to just use my old card in the new build until I can get my hands on a new GPU. If anyone could give me some feedback I would really appreciate it.

@@oskjan1 Dude all gen 4 does is double bandwitdh, if it never used up all Gen 3 bandwidth then putting in gen 4 does nothing

FYI, your AMD XMP issues come most likely from the fact that you used the A1/B1 slots rather than the A2/B2 slots, per the motherboard manual. I've had issues with lower-end MBs where not using the manual recommended slots with a 2 stick config prevented XMP from working properly.

I also noticed that the memory sticks were not in the right place. A friend of mine had the same issue, not being able to load the XMP profile correctly and it was due to that reason.

Also I have the phantom gaming ac mobo (basically the same with one less nvme ssd slot and the wifi/bluetooth card installed) and it needed a bios update to work with the 5600x I bought, maybe Linus has one that just comes with a newer bios that works out of the box with windows. Luckily it came with version P1.10 so that meant I could use the 5600x to update the bios but still... Also have the same case so I laughed.

Yes, this really bothered me how he glossed over the fact the computer crashed. Then settles for a really slow speed, I guess, I don't know because he ignored the bad build at $1000. Ya, it's totally acceptable.

@@Tinky1rs yeah I ordered a discounted one on a dutch website, but it was recent enough to boot into the BIOS so np, and a bios flash is easy to do. I was hoping a more recent update I've done a few weeks later would also allow me to OC the cpu better but I lost the silicon lottery, I can't get an all core OC above 4.6 on the 5600x to pass P95 so I'm just using the highest PBO OC available (gets cores boosting up to 4.85 so fine with me)

Hey Linus I actually have and i3 10100f with a 5700xt but I'm having trouble with my gpu utilization... ik I should be able to achieve over 144fps in games like apex and cod but I'm limited to low 100s and 70- 80+ % usage (90 + occasionally but not consistent). Do i need to upgrade my cpu or can this be fixed?

If you have no choice you have no choice. The sad part is that it's not a good deal. Poor resale value, upgrade path is meh, performance is meh - and still just a couple hundred off from one with those qualities. Throw in like 2-300 and you can have Ryzen 3600, x570 and M.2 SSD. For that kind of money I would much rather buy parts second hand!

@@decjackson2097 well I'm not saying everyone will get the same line of credit. You need actual credit to get a line of credit. Not an option for kids I know, but it is an option for adults that have jobs and a means to pay back the loan. Don't take out a line of credit if you don't have a job, common sense. And you can always pay it off early if you have good checks from work. Pay it off and your credit will improve, helping you in the future.

Yep, 100% true. They wasted money on the case and on the CPU cooler. I mean 42°C on the Intel and 50°C on the AMD CPU is NOTHING. Also b450 is a way better choice for the AMD system and a Be Quiet system power 9 PSU could safe some bucks. On the other hand, a SSD with cache is only like $10 more.

For a gaming rig is it better to have a well rounded pc or a strong Graphics card. About $1300 and for Microsoft flight sim 2020. I am lost on what to do right now.

​@@ChuuniKaede the new one talks about how in most countries other than North America, Intel is cheaper than AMD even after factoring in the MB cost, sometimes by double. Also performance in Intel is similar at worst, and better than AMD at best when comparing the CPU. "Used market" is basically unreliable or dumpster fire in any other countries so on those countries, when its time to replace the CPU, its probably time to replace the board as well since buying brand new can be same as buying used and performance and warranty of brand new probably worth the extra few dollars it cost it if it exist.

he would never compromise in GPU and storage area to fulfill 1440p gaming experience tho. if u prefer 1080p gaming experience u can easily pick up under 300$ GPU with 7200rpm hdd

problem is they are targetting 1440p ofc it will be expensive 1080p on the other hand will be cheaper by a lot and you can even use older or slightly lower cpu and gpu, get more storage or save money for future upgrades

Well, in Germany both CPUs aren‘t worth the price right now. The Ryzen 3 3300X costs minimum 165€, the i3-10100 costs 117€ minimum right now. I went for the i5-10400f for my second pc, which was 144€. In my country I‘d say the i5 is the way better deal.

Put away $20 a week in savings and you can buy a $1000 computer every year. Personally I save $20 a week and then only buy one good computer every 3 to 5 years, usually spend about $2500 but I only need maybe 2 or 3 in a decade and they are good enough to not need any upgrades, just build it and play until I'm ready for a new one. Plus they still have some resale value or hand them off to be used as servers or storage when they are retired from gaming.

@@gester159 Even kids in the US can make $150 a week or more, most adults make double or triple that even if they are poor. Minimum wage $7.50 x part time 20 hours = $150. Most adults make at least a little above minimum wage and work more than 20 hours. And that's before you talk about anyone with a job that is anything above basic retail or service environments.

back in 2019 i first built my pc witha strict budget of $1050, including paying for windows, and peripherals. in the budget i got a asrock b450 pro 4, ryzen 5 1600, gigabyte windforce 3X 2060, 1 tb hdd and 240 gb ssd. all in a H500. its sad to see how the inflation of the pc part market has changed things so much

Im Preatty new to the whole pc buildin game and I wanted to ask, why should I wanna buy a radeon 5700xt if I could get a, for example in my case a 3060ti, for even less money. (Supply Issues aside)
