Good vid, but 1 WRONG info. - You don't need a pixlar's mod for 6800, you need it for 6800xt but 6800 only draws max 250W and in reality it doesn't even come close to that. You can totally just use the backplane power from MP.

It can fit even rx6900 so any rx6800 should fit

An interesting video, thank you very much! I noticed your Nikon Z9 packaging. If you use DaVinci Resolve: Can the RX 6800 handle N-Raw footage up to 8K 60p without frame drops? If not, where is the limit?

I use final cut pro, but macos in general seems to have trouble with 8k/30 not just with mp 5,1 but even my iMac Pro with 6800/6900 xt. 8k hvec is a slideshow. I didn’t even try n-raw. I use my m1 pro 16” mbp to edit z9 8k videos

@@cs.studios Interesting. Unfortunately, nothing works for me in Final Cut Pro. Not HVEC (doesn't work on my 5.1 and Ventura in general), not ProRes Raw, not Cinema DNG. In DaVinci Resolve, both Cinema DNG (generated from ProRes Raw) and N-Raw work. I used my RX 580 to set up a 5.4K 60p N-Raw timeline yesterday. At 40 frames per second, the card is maxed out. That's why I found your video about the RX 6800 so interesting. The card brings three times the performance of the RX 580 and should do without Pixlas Mod. I will set up an 8K N-Raw project tomorrow. Let's see what happens...

Yeah davinci is good at utilizing gpus but if I used davinci I’d probably use my pc desktop instead. I only use mac for final cut pro editing. I think the 6800 will work in davinci for you

At least it works, even if the CPU is basically shooting it in the knees with lower than expected bandwith and performance.

Nice video, bro. Does the bus interface of the Alienware egpu run at 3.0x16 instead of pcie 3.0 x4？

It’s pcie 3.0 x4 but doesn’t have the overhead of tb3 so runs faster (direct PCIe connection)

It should work on every single 6000 series.

You know you can't install Ventura/Sonoma with the RX 6800 in the Mac Pro 5,1 and is this your main machine?

Can you do this in Mojave or do you need at least Big Sur and above?

Big sur 11.4 is minimum for rx 6800/6900 series

Can you flash this card using Windows 10 in Bootcamp, or do you need a completely separate Windows computer?

Yes that works as well , assuming you have a Mac that can boot it. The 5,1 and older don’t even start with these GPUs until they are flashed

Yes this video is for AMD’s 6000 series not the older generation
