@@PCBuilderChannelYes, people are definitely using the 7950x for mining, due to its best in class AVX512 performance. I'm pretty sure it's the only consumer CPU you can make money with --- supply and demand. I have a feeling it might eventually affect prices of eight core chips too, of AMD pivots supply to manufacture more 7950x chips... I bet AMD is planning to price the 9950x at an absurd price to take advantage of this market at launch as well - it's probably why AMD is rushing to get Zen5 out of the gate! They are probably planning to make a boat load of 8 core chips...

The 7950X has recently become popular for mining a specific cryptocurrency due to the CPU's support of AVX2 and AVX512 support. That's of course driving the price of these chips up.

You would think so. From articles reported a couple weeks ago, crypto miners were buying up 7950X, supply and demand would drive up the prices as we’ve seen. The 7950X3Ds are marketed as gaming CPUs and don’t have the raw CPU speed of the non-3D VCache model which handles CPU workloads better.

Your making a lot of sense here about the midrange upgraders. Ive been struggling with this decision for awhile, i ahve a 5600x/3070, small upgrades are the 5(78)00x3d's , but then the 7600 would net the same, but still the 3070's 8gb holds whatever built back. So feel like i need to upgrade the gpu as well, which is the hangup. Do i just go for 16gb gpu even if it doesnt currently beat the 3070 except in the titles needing more than 8gb vram? the 7900xt and xtx seems like the best options. I've already bought psu, ddr5 and 4tb nvme drive, guess I'll wait a bit longer...

Would you still recommend a Ryzen 7800X3D for this setup or is there a slightly beefier CPU which would be better for the future. Many thanks Jason :)

Regarding the X post at 11:13. Something isn't right with that person's PC. Unless he is doing some kind of CPU intensive professional workload while gaming? The 14/13th gen flagships do run hot but that is on all core workloads like cinebench. Mine barely hits 70 degrees in gaming, just using the overclock settings that came with my MSI board. Either that person has bad bios settings, or bad cooling or both.... Yeah 95 degrees with "high end" AIO for gaming is not adding up

I have a Deepcool LT520 on a 13600K and my temps are never that high when gaming so some things you could try are: - Look at your fan curves in bios. Maybe they aren't well optimized? - Check if your power limits are set to Intel's defaults or your mobo's defaults. If it's the mobo defaults, your cpu might be getting way too much power (this is the whole intel cpu issue recently) - Try reseating your cooler If none of those work, maybe your AIO is faulty?

Something that worries me a little about the Ryzen 5 5500 is that it doesn't have support for PCIe gen 4; it only supports gen 3. All GPUs you can currently find on the new market, even the really cheap ones like the Arc A580 and the Radeon RX 6600, use PCIe gen 4. I've heard that you don't really lose a whole lot of performance when you use them at gen 3 speeds, but I can't really be sure. I also don't know if the Core i3-12100F will be enough if I wanna multitask, given that it only has four cores, but it does seem to have slightly better gaming performance. I'm waiting for the next gen release to do a rebuild for a more productivity focused machine with at the least a r9 7900 or i7 14700 . I would only consider Intel 13th/14th gen at this point if the prices really came down due to socket end of life, and also the thermals on the i9 are just too bad regardless plus all the reported problems. We're so close to the new Ryzen that I want to see what they are about, but I expect the release prices to be too high. With last gen, I believe the first real discount after release happened around Black Friday, which is when I plan to do the build. CPU prices will be decent enough then I hope, but there could also be deals on the other components to make it really worth building then. I also wonder what RAM will be optimal for these new Ryzen CPU. I don't want to build AM5 now with 6000 and then find out the new memory controllers got much better and the sweet spot changed to 6400 or stable at 8000.
