I don’t get why some people are getting mad at this guy. Some people don’t understand this a tier list for ONLY GAMING!!! If you are buying a cpu only for gaming, then stick with ryzen 7. They are perfect for gaming experience. You don’t need Ryzen 9… They are used for other things like video editing or software development.

@@cademckenna863lol gamers nexus has shown a 7800X3D is way better than anything intel has. Big L Also, there no upgrade path for any current intel chip. 14th is the last on that socket. If youre future proofing AMD is the way to go.

Microcenter bundles insane right now. $349 for 5800x3d , Asus mobo, 16 gigs ram. I picked up extra ram for 32 gigs totaling $377 plus tax. They had other bundles too but 5800 x3d is still kicking butt

Hello ScatterVolt, I have a question: Well my i5 4590 with 8gb of ram got pretty long in the tooth and screams for an upgrade. The main aplication for my next build is to do 3D modelling in Creo, Blender and Alias, video editing in Vegas PRO; some later AAA games and some 6-8 year f2p old games. The GPU i have is a RX5600XT. Even tough Intel has better performance/core for the programs mentioned above, i’ve already bought a MSI B550M Mortar for cheap. Im wanting to buy 5950x second hand and get the 32gb ram and a d ak 620 cooler for it. Here in eastern europe i find 5800x at @ 180$ 5900x at @250$ and 5950X at@330$. Wich one would you buy? The ETA for the next upgrade after this build i estimate it will be 2028 new gpu for me at least and 2030 cpu + mobo. Thank you for you time!

The problem I have with some of the newer AMD systems (haven't checked the Intel yet) is the price of the motherboard is a lot higher than a B550 motherboard running DDR 4, especially in an ITX build.

But what about the upgrade path? And windows licence? AMD has a ver good upgrade path, which means 22 MOBOs from intel. So actually you can half that price, or double the intel's MOBO price. And also thw dinows licence key price because it connects to the MOBO. ;)

The cost of a B650 over a B550 is a big difference, but the leap from AM4 to AM5 is worth it. Especially when you consider that AM4 has no path to upgrade and uses last gen DDR4 RAM. With my X670E I'm PCIe gen 5.0 ready, which is rumored to come out with the RTX 5000 series.

Menawhile intel was on the same node at 12th, 13th and 14th gen, AMD already went down from 5nm to 4 nm. And probably 9000 series is on 4 nm and Zen 6 will be produced on 3 nm from TSMC and maybe, not the original 3nm but something like 3nm P, or E, or something, which will be better, than the original 3nm. That is why AMD is a lot better choice now. Probably 1 MOBO instead of 3 MOBOs, especially, if we count intel's 10th and 11th gen Desktop CPUs... 🙂

@@Theworthsearcher Intel dropped the ball with the 13th and 14th gen i9 chips. People are having issues with them and need to run them at lower voltage to stop them from crashing, and at the lower voltages the Ryzen 7 7800X3D stomps it in average FPS in most games. As long the 9000 series are AM5 and not AM5+ and I can run it in my X670E mobo, I'll have good.

the ryzen 5 7600 is on sale for 269$ CAD on newegg, paired with a 6700x at 439$ CAD. Is that suitable to start a fresh build around? if not what would you recommend?

Depends what resolution you will be gaming at. That'll be a 1080p killer at max settings and at 1440p High settings.

To be fair if you get the 5600X3d in the $299 bundle that includes Ram and a mobo it's a nice base to build a budget rig around. Buying it alone at the clearly over inflated price Microcenter set (to encourage you to buy the bundle probably) would definitely not be recommended tho lol.

i have built three budget AM5 PCs for friends and family so far. these rigs were intended to be upgradeable in the future. After some compatibility issues with an MSI board (am5 was really new and bios/memory compatibility was crap then) i switched to ASRock and stayed with it ever since. no issues so far. Boards i used: 1. ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2: -about 120 bucks -proven to be able to handle the 7950x under all core load in cinebench -2 M.2 slots (1 pcie 5.0) -only 2 RAM slots (not really an issue) -no 3 pin ARGB headers though! 2. ASRock B650M PRO RS: -about 140 bucks difference to the HDV/M.2: some white paint, a little bit of RGB, 4 RAM slots, a third M.2 slot (two lanes only) and most crucial: some 3 pin ARGB headers! 3. ASRock B650M PG Riptide -about 160 bucks (not really budget anymore imo) -a bit like the PRO RS with some RGB but in black -beefier voltage regulation

7500f is so underrated and it even beats 5800x3d which is much more expensive. 7500f + a620 + 2x8 ddr5 ram is cheaper than the 5800x3d alone on where I live

I’m going to buy a new motherboard for my pc because I still use my old itx one in my nxzt h9 case and planning to upgrade my 5600x to a 5800x3d, would it be worth the money to go for ddr5 and a 7800x3d or should I stick with my current ddr4 build? the price on the 5800x3d and 7800x3d is around 150$ different where I live

the problem is the cores cant be overclocked. But tbh, it did pretty well for editing but not so much a very bang of bucks for it. Gamer Nexus does a pretty throughout benchmarking at it, you can check it out. TL:DR: If you really want to kick the productivity, better off with Intel (Especially gen 13/14 i7-i9). But cost hefty price and also TGP draw. Best productivity Ryzen gave so far only 7700X, 7950X and 7950X3D for AM5 plat.

I wouldn't put 14600k/f so low, especially lower than 5900x, these two cost about the same but 14600k is significantly faster in gaming. When comparing 14600k and 13600k, performance difference is very small, but 14600k is more energy efficient and runs cooler.

@@ScatterVolt True, its mostly for those who "need" 8 cores on the side. You really only need 6 cores. The 12700k is better in terms of workstation application. I myself think the 7600 is better overall except workstaion applications. Also not to be that "guy" but the 7600 rn is $230. Prices change so hard.

@@Friskyztv Not in single threaded performance aka gaming. Yea id say the 12700k is fast for workstation and pretty nice for gaming but in terms of actual speed its slower then the 7600. And the same for the 7700x. Look on toms hardware, its ever prevelant that the amd cpus (7000) series are better. Even a 7500f or hell even a 5800x3d is faster for gaming. Its not core count, its single threaded performance you want to look for.

Yeah, some of these new games actually want 8 cores, AAA stuff. It is rare but there you go. Well they use all the cores you have.

Seems fair. 12900KF seems to chunk less frames in my experience in raid versus 12700KF. A lot of games are still not using more than the 8 core meta or less.

Depends on your budget. I had a ryzen 3600 on b450 am4. Decided to go with 5700x instead of 5800x3d. The price of 5700x was 180$, 5800x3d was 330$ so nearly double the price. 5800x3d also runs very hot and has nearly 2x higher TDP than 5700x. If your market has similar price differences I would go for either 5600 (x) or 5700x. If you want maximum performance, no matter the cost, tdp and if you have a really good cpu cooling then go with 5800x3d. One more option: wait for the 5500x3d or 5700x3d, they premiere next week and see the price vs performance, but with the release prices it may not be that compelling.

As someone with a 7900x, I can somewhat agree with the listing. When it comes to gaming I definitely agree, but for all around usage I'd definitely rank it higher. A part of me has some kind of buyers remorse getting it over the 7800x3D.

@@Call_Me_Terjorn you will get 240fps+ in most esports game and get good fps if you decide to play single title games but the cpu will struggle in more cpu intensive games or poorly optimized games, if you can save up for like a month and buy am5 cpu it could be better but if not the combo is still good

I got my 7500F for ~$135, then snagged a B650M HDV for $110, and lastly a 32GB 6000 C32 Lexar RAM for $85. Doubt I'll be upgrading for a while.

when i built my computer the best single thread performance chips near the price i could afford was the 5800x and the brand new 12700k , i went with the Ryzen chip because no way was i buying another brand new released intel chip so i would give the 5800x a bit of a better score and the 5800x3d hadn't come out yet

The GPU is definitely your bottleneck for almost everything. I ran an i7 7700 with a GTX 1060 3gb, and upgraded to a 1080 later on. CPU technology advances far slower than GPU when it comes to effective performance, which is why even ten year old processors can still run modern games with decent performance- very few GPUs are capable of such a feat. If you want a bit more CPU performance, you can try a bit of overclocking with that chip anyway if you havent already. Only thing is, if you use your PC for a lot more than just gaming, you might start to feel the lack of cores on your performance. Currently I am switching my main desktop to a Ryzen 5 5600x that I got with a motherboard deal for just over $200, so you can still find some awesome options like that if you are willing to spend a bit more and make the switch.

Definitely the GPU, just a week ago I had an i5 6600k with RTX 3070 and I could play all the games that came out on high! And I play on 3440 x 1440 Ultrawight!

In india 13500 sells for 265$ and 13600k sells for 345$ . And 13500 is 90% of 13600k for 80$ less . 13500 is S tier in india

@@ScatterVolt dude is it bad to get 5600g cause the 5600 is like 50 to 60 $ bucks more expensive here ( yes i do have an dedicated graphics card rtx 3060 ti and the 5600g is the maximum i can go)

@@navanithkrishnan7177 depends what you're upgrading from. No the 5600g isnt that much behind a 5600, same clock speed but half the L3 cache. If you already have a 3600 or something then I probably wouldnt even bother

The 5960x is NOT a gaming CPU and should not even be considered for this tier list. Now for productivity, that’s another story. The 5950x would score very high on any productivity list. Good job though. I agree with almost all of your rankings. Right now, the 12700k is on deep discounts. I’ve bought a few of them because of this.

I actually found a video of a guy gaming on Hell Let Loose with 4k monitor max settings getting 140 plus fps etc etc with a sapphire nitro Amd rx 7900 xtx and a 5950x and it looked to work very well.

@@royaltydiesel6734 the point of the original comment is to say that a 5800X would do the same job at the same fps, a 5800X3D would do even better than the 5950X, sure, it works well for gaming, but for gaming alone it is all but a waste of sand

You can get a 7700 250$ and 7500F for 180$ in my country. 7600 is in the middle. Seems like 7700 is a really good value.

It’s neat

The 5950x is pretty useful to me for my virtual machines and decent 1080p gaming just for a relaxation. It's a fine one I think I can still hold with the system. For the upgrade I am planning to get Threadripper lmao. Great content xD👌👍👍

Yes, minus extremely CPU heavy games like Battlefield 2042 (use a latter Ryzen 9 or i7 for those)

I got mine new 13900kf for a approximately 400$ and stock price in EU is about 600-630€ and i have to say … It’s a faking OG .. If i didnt get the good price I would choose 7800x3d .. but I got chance to get this beast and i dont regret.. its rude to say its waste of sand.. there will times that utilize that power in games in future so its future proof

Fr i got i9 12900k and z690 for 350$ and it runs cs2 700+ and fortnite solo 400-650fps no drops below 350fps and then everyone says that r7 7800x3d better but in every benchmark the fps drops are crazy

So my understanding for a good budget cad system cpu is very much on point with either 7500f, 7600 or 12600kf on ddr4 for best single core performance to price ratio. Great to know, thanks! Ps, 7500f here is 160 euros or so, 7600 is about 190 and 12600kf is about 210.

Cad as in rendering? The more cores/threads the better for that, so for the money, maybe a 13600K/13500 might be worth looking into. Otherwise 7500f is it.

Now what about for productivity. I run softwares and spreadsheets that would shut down my old laptop. I have a i9 1300H in my laptop. Should I get a desktop with the same specs?

i'm actually excited to see the gaming performance of the 8700G and 8600G, hopefully make the current sub $100 GPU market obsolete.

7800xt or 4070 which is best in both gaming and productivity.......

+4 E-Cores on the 14700K/F compared to 13700K/F. this is the only one in the "Refresh" which got additional cores, and also +100Mhz on all P and E cores compared to 13700K/F. honestly, to me it's much better than to place into "waste of sand" category.

Great, both mine and my grandsons' CPU were in the waste of sand ha ha ,moving up in the world going for the AMD 7600 x of course with built-in graphics top video saved me a lot of time studying what was available for the price thanks great video

Hi there and thanks for the video ! Can you please help me choosing my CPU upgrade for AM4, I just upgraded my GPU with the XFX RX 6800 XT Merc and i still have my old Ryzen 7 3700X, I am not a gamer that's why i need help. My main use for my Pc is Photoshop, Lightroom and Davinci Resolve but i do also game a little bit nothing too crazy and I am not against the idea of switching to Intel also, so what CPU should i get as an upgrade for my usage, and is it worth it to upgrade my whole system with the next gen Motherboard for AM5 plus the Ram as future proof or is it not worth it right now ? Thanks a lot for anyone who can gui me as I am not an expert in this field 🙏🏼

This is only for gaming, but what if you want to be able to do some video editing or streaming of your gaming? What cpu is good for that, but also isn’t unescesarily expensive?

Great video, agreed in everything. Not sure if you know but in argentina (where i live) there is a huge crisis, a 5600 cost 220.000 And the 7500f its such a killer deal, you can get them for 140.000, and there is some weird cases where you can get a 4090 for 250.000 (250 dollars☠) Just a curiosity about my country, btw when i say 140000 i dont mean 140 i mean one hundred thousand and forty bucks

I have ryzen 9 5900X paired with a 4070 XD In gaming I don’t get bottleneck and I play at 1080p ultrawide. Back in the days I had to choose between my actual cpu and the ryzen 7 5800X3D but I chose the 5900X cuz I needed more cores for virtual machine. And well, watching benchmarks these 2 cpus are not that much different in gaming, but if we look at multiplayer gaming the X3D doesn’t know what bottleneck is. Overall I’m happy about my choise, it is working very well at this resolution and with my gpu. I agree with you list btw

I plan to make a pc and im thinking about using a 5500 and a soyo rx 5700xt, do you think they would be a good pair.

In the US? I’m seeing it sold for $185 which is better, but it needs to be $160 ideally. 12600K is still a better gaming CPU.

@@ScatterVolt In Indonesia the price gap between 13 and 14 gen is only around USD10 or less, so is it better to grab 14 gen instead? Also, between 14600K and 14700K which one is better for RTX 4080? The price of original RTX 4080 here is in between 4070 TiS and 4080 S..

5600x is A tier

The first thing I actually noticed was how good the audio is in this video. Not too loud, just right.

5800x3D is always the right answer for AM4 owners.

I disagree with some of the intel cpus, the 14700k is at least a c tier cpu. It is an upgrade, it has 4 more e cores, 0.1ghz more boost clock. The 13700kf in my opinion should be s tier. It os literately 12900k refreshed for cheaper and it is affordable. I feel like this is a bit biased to amd, cause these are just considering gaming, not really creativity tasks.

LGA 1700 is a dead socket unfortunately so once you get those top tier Intel CPUs, then that's it. AM5 has a lot of room to grow though.

But am5 socket in future can get new get chipsets for 8xxx and any way u need update mb if u want get max performance . And many game on intel work better coz not have stutters what u see on amd

I wouldn't necessarily call the 5000G CPUs a waste of sand, they have a place, and no, it's not because of the iGPU, but because they are always slightly cheaper than the non-G counterparts, this is where the 5600G shines, it is cheaper than the 5600 yet not as stripped back as the 5500 (The stripped down 5600G) 5700G is not as great because it doesn't fall into low budget the same way, making the 10 ish pound difference in price not as important

They have way less cache than the non G variants. The performance is much worse as a result. If you dont need the igpu they are a waste of sand

Hey, I’m building a brand new pc for gaming/streaming and in my country the i5-14600kf is about 5-7€ more expensive than the i5-13600kf. I know the performance is like 3% better on the 14th generation compared to the 13 generation so that’s why I bought the i5-14600kf for just 5€ more! Was it worth it or not?

depends, for video encoding you want a lot of cores if you're doing it in software, but it matters less if you're using hardware encoding (NVENC, QuickSync, VCN, etc.)

The 14900K is more than overkill for streaming. A 12 core chip is enough, my i7-12700K is a streaming beast (through CPU, gives better image quality than graphics card encoding).
