no it's really not sad for his wife she will never know! doesn't mean he doesn't love his wife just means the other woman impacted his life and heart so much he will never forget her. he knows they are better off as friends.

I really miss all these "soft rock" songs that came out in the '70s. They filled the airwaves and created a whole genre of rock. There were several groups in this vein. sooooo goooood!

It does my heart good to see young people appreciate this kind of music and the 70’s/80’s era. We have 4 children (28-32). I was in high school in 1980 when this song came out. Everything you said was true. My father was a man’s man, but he was very loving towards me and my brothers and our mom. My brothers and I masculine, strong, protective men, but we have no problem showing love to those in our lives. People got along better back in the 70s/80s. People were happier. Relationships were closer. You simply don’t see that nearly as often now. It breaks my heart that this generation will miss out on those types of qualities in society. Thank you so much for sharing your insight on this. Your parents have to be proud of how mature you two are. God bless.

Definitely my favorite Ambrosia song! The lead singer, Dauid Pack recorded a song with Michael McDonald and the late great James Ingram. It is called I Just Can't Let Go. Each of these gentleman has an amazing voice of their own. Together, producer Quincy Jones called them the "other" holy trinity because of their angelic voices. Definitely worth a listen if you get around to it.

Hearing these tunes makes me so grateful I grew up in the 70s & 80s listening to great music. Todays music comes nowhere near what they had back then.

These guys were so smooth. If you haven't heard some of their other radio hits, check out "Biggest Part of Me", "You're The Only Woman", and "Holdin' On To Yesterday". Good stuff!

I have a friend who doesn't listen to music and doesn't care about it.. Wth?! It's so mind blowing to me. 🤯. This song is a timeless classic!! RIP to David Pack's (lead singer) wife Stacey. She passed away in Feb 13, 2023 (breast cancer).

Yes, Chod. The music certainly enhanced the feeling you had for someone, way back in the 2oth century. The music no is terrible in how we relate to one another. Sure, everyone plays the game, but I believe the endgame was to find someone or something that lasts. To have someone to share and build a life with. To a least take a chance. Today, it feels like just trying to get over on as many people as you can. It's truly a sad system of affairs. Next up, HOLDING ON TO YESTERDAY.

The founding keyboardist is Christopher North. His father was a math teacher, whom, was also the teacher that I took drivers training with, when they offered it in high schools. 43 years ago. Our car didnt have a radio, so Mr North let us use his boombox. All he would play was Led Zeppelin though. We didnt complain.

I feel as we leave this type of music behind, we as a society is getting more violent and more hateful. Is all about me, what do I it get? We need to get rid of the violence in our music and movies. I know that is never going to happen, but can only wish.

Don't be disheartened, good music is still out there, you just need to shine the spotlight on them. There's a couple of bands from my country that's bringing back those old school vibes blended with our indigenous/historic influences. Their discography is very diverse but their music speaks to our childhood growing up in the 70s & 80s, musicians playing real instruments, great vocals, live performances and smooth easy listening grooves. When available their live studio performances (Roundhead or Massey) are best. I totally agree how great it is when the whole band sings back-up and harmonies or some even have their own songs - like Eagles, for one. Yes, Ambrosia is totally feel-good, chill-out music!

You are so on point with the type of songs we grew up with. Love, fun, beauty, caring, feelings, living positively. Imagine growing up with these traits all around you and in the music. They are definitely projecting negativity, vulgarity and trash as the goal. You are so right about the positive role models for the men, they felt they could express their feelings and show love. Music is a mirror of the world around it and lately there ain’t a lot of love going around so you’re right. When a society has no love, the music reflects that. That’s why I’m stuck in the 70’s.

70s great decade. Long song rock, am radio and disco. Songs like this were 24/7 on am. Eagles, Elton John so much great car radio music.

This is one of my most favorite feel-good songs ever! I was somewhere about 5-7 years old when this song came out & it's definitely part of my earliest childhood memories. I remember my parents getting ready for work and this song (along with other bands like Styx & Little River Band) playing while I was waking up. This genre of soft rock is now funnily been dubbed as "yacht rock". There's even a cover band for this genre called, wait for it... Yach Roch Revue. They do national tours and everything!

@@onsesejoo2605 I made a typo as I clearly correctly typed "yacht" in the previous sentence. I certainly didn't dub the new name some use for the genre instead of "soft rock". I'm just stating that that's how I've seen it referenced. I appreciate the music and agree with you about the musicianship, very much so. I guess it could be the same argument that bossa nova jazz (which I love) is the equivalent of elevator music. While I value the genre way more than "just" elevator music because I recognize and appreciate the influence of African and Caribbean beats mixed into jazz notes, others see/hear it merely as such "elevator music" because they dont have a deeper understanding of the genre. And I definitely think the band Yacht Rock Revue have a healthy appreciation for the music since that's what they cover in all their tours. My comment also reflects on how this style of music was a backdrop to my earliest memories so I definitely don't have any negative thoughts, feelings connotations to the style.

There’s a very good reason this band is still touring but hasn’t released any new albums since 1982’s Road Island. That’s because David Pack lead singer here quit. The problem with Ambrosia is they were a killer Prog band who happened to write 3 very popular hit singles that saturate radio to this very moment and all or most of their fans like the rest of those 5 albums more. They lost a ton of support from those that quit on them because of those hits. I saw them several times but when they were at CalProg 2010 they chose to not play those 3 hits and did an all Prog set. The crowd was very appreciative.

@@spookym123 depends on your perspective really. Ambrosia started in 1975 as a very sophisticated Progressive Rock band. People that bought their music did so because they weren’t trying to make hit singles for the radio. There was one by accident from the debut called Holdin’ On To Yesterday that became pretty popular. The next album in 1976 was Somewhere I’ve Never Traveled and it had a song called I Want To Know which wasn’t much of a hit. Their third album is Life Beyond L.A. and the closing song is How Much I Feel and became a huge hit. But keep in mind there are about 30 songs by 1978 that never got airplay and are excellent complex and demand the listener’s attention. It became clear radio wouldn’t play anything from these albums that wasn’t a hit single. Then they released One Eighty (1980) with 2 hugely popular hits You’re The Only Woman and You’re The Biggest Part Of Me and the problem with those was when new arrivals to the band were only hearing those same songs which exists right now. The band realized this and attempted to rectify this misleading narrative that this was the only style of music they had. So they released Road Island 2 years later and since radio didn’t hear anything they could play they literally ignored Ambrosia and David Pack left the band and never came back. Ambrosia are considered a “Where are they now?” band if anyone still cares. I love Road Island but it was released too late. 1982 was New Wave and Heavy Metal. How Toto managed to keep going is literally a miracle. The same thing happened to Yes when 90125 (1983) was released and Owner Of A Lonely Heart went number one in the U.S. in 1984. Yesfans since 1971 or 1969 felt lost listening to this new hip Yes. Thankfully they ditched that style and went back to making music from the heart. Yes is still touring and I don’t know if Ambrosia exists or not.

Great tune and they have so much fantastic even more progressive tracks like Somewhere I Never Travelled, Nice, Nice, Very Nice, And finally Drink of Water. Those songs will seem like a spiritual experience. This version seems like the sound was compressed!

The last verse, “How’s your live been goin’ on, got a wife now years we’ve been going strong” tells me the song is being sung to his old girlfriend.

Few people know that Ambrosia was a great progressive rock band before they went commercial. Their first 2 albums are fantastic.

I was able to see AMBROSIA on September 29, 2018. Of course, David Pack wasn't there, but they still sounded great They did a few earlier prog songs as well as their mellow tunes. They shared the stage with Orleans. Chod, please play HOLDING ON TO YESTERDAY.

You're right Chod about the difference in music then and now. It's not by chance - it's all part of the woke music industry's attempt to separate us rather than bring us together. 'Nuf said. And BTW, if you like David Pack, he sings lead on "I Won't Be Led Astray" on Alan Parsons's new album, From the New World.

There may be people who dont like any music because they may have been born with one or more of the five parts of the brain it takes for music to make sense.

I want to like this song. I know it's good- the guys are so talented. But the sickly sweet Ambrosia after this just would not stop. I guess they made a lot of money. I know they did! "Jesus hair and afros ... " I'm gonna agree with you that if the group members are wearing one or both of these styles, they are a sure bet to be good musicians. May not be true, but I like the thought. Ambrosia has many good songs. The 70's were definitely a more traditional time as far as relationships went. Divorce rates were creeping up, but couples usually stayed together for the long haul. And love songs ruled the airwaves. Or at least were a major part of what was played on the radio. Love y'all's channel. Keep on r'actin .

David pack was the lead singer of ambrosia he is no longer with the band, but this song back in the 1970's was beautiful, david is 71 yrs old now and on his own singing his hits from ambrosia which he wrote most of them by himself.

I loved this song for decades. Until I really listened to the lyrics. The lyrics are kinda, a lot to unpack. I mean, he says he wasn't unfaithful, but wants to be forgiven? And he thinks of her when he's being intimate with his wife? Ew. And that's not cool, imagine his wife listening to this song, and thinking, wtf?! And the ex, does she hear this song and is she impressed that he still obsesses over her? Or is she freaked out about it? Yeah, when you really love someone, you don't hold them back, you let them go if they wanna go, but you also don't fantasize about them for the rest of your life, either. I agree and if you are still obsessed/in love with an ex, don't get married just yet. It took me 3 years to get over my first true love in the meantime, I did go out with other guys but didn't commit until I met my husband. I never think about my first love when loving my husband NEVER! Do I still care about my ex? Of course, only in a friendship way wanting him to be happy and ok. I had to do this for myself and my husband because I truly love him. He's not only my husband, lover, but my best friend too!
