Amazon's Lord of the Rings Epic FAIL! The Vandalization of Tolkien and Fan ATTACKS have Begun

Ойын-сауық

Amazon's Lord of the Rings is a DISASTER as predicted and we still haven't seen the show. The very first images were rolled in a lengthy Vanity Fair article. Confirming our worst concerns. As predicted an armored WAR Galadriel, brand new diverse characters from a legendarium that has hundreds, and modern messaging. There is little to no respect for the lore and when things go wrong, you can always blame the fans.
You are going to see a lot of twisting of Tolkien's words spoken and written to justify the blatant deviations and subversions in LOTRROP. When this happens ask this. In the 66 years, 3 months, and 22 days since the publication of Return of the King why are we just seeing it now?

what we are watching is the starting point of the futures 'would be history' that the media and future generations will accept as fact. the original versions of movies, tv series and historical events will be ignored and some even disappear. REPLACED by these 'updated with race and gender swapped' ones . you need to start the brainwashing somewhere and we are living through it.

The saddest thing is, the book already CONTAINS all the modern messaging. The reason why the "free nations" are in danger from Sauron is PRECISELY that their racism and bigotry keep them apart. The three books are about a group of people on a journey to overcome their prejudice, preconceptions and racism and inspire others to do the same. The entire sausagefest is basically salvaged by the ONE woman who was courageous and focused enough to counter the patriarchy and stand up, first to a manipulative politician, then to a sex abuser, THEN to her family who wanted to force her down FOR being female when she wanted to join the men in a fight, and LASTLY to the second most powerful antagonist. It's all IN the books. It's what the books are ABOUT.

Whenever i hear that something is getting a sequel or prequel or reboot, or just being considered for anything. You just know it's going to be woke garbage... I think George Lucas loves Star Wars. But he still created the atrocity that was Jar Jar Binks and had Greedo shoot first. Star Wars had issues long before Kathleen Kennedy drove the final nails into its coffin. I don't think Kathleen Kennedy loves Star Wars. Her infamous statement that there was nothing existing to go on when making episodes 7, 8 and 9 is proof of that. Ignoring the many novels, including the very well written Timothy Zahn Thrawn trilogy, and the West End Games d6 roleplaying game shows she did not love Star Wars, those two things were what kept many, mainly young Star Wars fans going in the long gap from Return of the Jedi to the Special Editions. And it hasn't all been bad. Rogue One was good, Force Awakens was good, and so was The Mandalorian.

The Witcher, in their own ideology, could have showcased “an underrepresented group in western media” i.e. the poles and Slavs. With The Witcher, LOTR and Wheel of Time they fully cemented their belief that only non European characters/stories deserve to be accurate or “represented”, and think all European cultures are the same/equally shown in media. I wonder why they don’t just write a new fantasy story with original characters…?

The Witcher has little to do with polish culture and mythology though. It is written by a pole and that is about it. The inspiration to the different things within The Witcher come from all over. It is like saying Harry Potter is English culture and mythology when it is really just litterature written by a brit. I think the only odd casting choice in The Witcher is Triss. But given how "modern" the life in the Witcher world is it is still not out of hand. It isnt supposed to be a historical representation of Poland or europe during the dark ages. It likely falls into the same timeframe as LotR or Conan, a time long before our own in between times of near or full human extinction number X. edit: Also, LotR isnt english legend or mythology either, it is pure fiction based on everything from arthurian legends, norse myths and christian/pre-christian beliefs. That said, the litterature should still be respected, especially when there are strict guidlines, including drawings coming straight from the author. If people think LotR is actual english legend or mythology I'd suggest they go back to school for a 3rd grade religion history lesson.

Elves and dwarfs are characters from ancient Germanic religion and mythology. They were created by Europeans for Europeans from the deepest part of their souls. Tolkien was inspired by the ancient religion, myths, legends, and history of Europe and incorporated these in his stories. This is what gives his work depth and authenticity. Tolkien was not creating some trash fantasy novel for the whole earth. While his writings can be enjoyed by everyone, he did not write for everyone. He wanted to create a mythology for England. He explicitly states: " I had in mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ...which I could dedicate simply: to England; my country." Replacing European actors with non-European actors to play icons of European mythology not only violates the spirit and goals of Tolkien's writings, but it is also highly disrespectful to an ancient people and their myths. Would you approve of European actors playing critical roles in African or Asian mythology? The answer is obvious.

It is good that there's a stirring in the right direction but most all of the media is just nonsensical woke propaganda. It's all over all forms of media and inserted everywhere, even in the classics. Shows made or based on authors like Tolkien don't need to be made in to propaganda vehicles and used on the majority of unsuspecting adults and children who absorb the messaging without even noticing it's going on. I now present "The 4 stages of a bad woke adaptation" 1. Hey it's pretty cool that they're adding new content to this franchise that I've loved since I was a young child. 2. Hmm, they don't seem to be taking the previously established lore seriously that I've loved and learned for a long time. 3. The content is now released and doesn't seem to be doing so well. I would like to offer constructive criticism for the lore aspects and cinematic aspects of this content so it hopefully improves. 4. People who disagree with me are now putting words in my mouth and spreading a false narrative that I'm a violent nazi who hates the diversity of the media and bothing else and they're arguing about how I'm the enemy and how I'm a big baby for not accepting it as the best thing to ever happen to this franchise.

Well said, and I think the reason why I've come to love a series like Beast Wars is because it did the exact opposite. 1. Tried to revive the franchise with a change so drastic that it was guaranteed to cause backlash 2. Brought in a creative team who had next to no knowledge of the franchise 3. A creative team who not only listened to the fans but actively participated in the fan forums and incorporated their ideas and suggestions into later episodes 4. Became the standard that every piece of Transformers media is compared to.

Meaning she is literally one of the last elves in middle earth who has seen the light of the two trees. Her value to her people is incalculable and no one would allow her to take to the field of battle. Amazon will just add it to Prime, where it is free to make some of that money back over many years. The show will probably never be in the green anytime soon but the real value lies in the fact that Amazon will now have a firm foot in the door concerning this property, which no one else has. They want to have something "grand" on their portfolio, like HBO has GoT - the last 2-3 seasons of which sucked badly but overall was and still is highly regarded. They will not make this show for the actual old-school fans. They will make it for the mass-market NPCs, who see it - talk about it for 15 minutes with coworkers over a cig - and move on to the next hyped thing. You don't read the sagas expecting to see some form of Gender equality - Tolkien's stories on Middle-earth are like the Sagas. It just doesn't make sense and it's a slap in the face to the culture and the people from whom the story originates. It just goes to show how incredibly ignorant (and racist!) these woke people actually are. There are so many stories and so much rich history from Africa and other non-European places to be told. But these moronic woke parasites won't make the effort of researching those and telling stories that haven't been told before. It's not even correct. The USA is, arguably, somewhat racially diverse, in that it has a significant non-white population, even if an awful lot of that non-white population is geographically limited. But let's take it as sufficiently 'diverse'. Many European countries, places like Iceland, Norway, or Finland, the very places, along with Anglo-Saxon England, whose myths, sagas, languages, and folktales Tolkien drew inspiration from when creating his Middle-Earth world, have almost no non-white population. Even with years and years of refugee/asylum seekers. Similarly many African/Asian countries have almost zero white population. 'The World' is, mostly, not racially diverse, it is mono-ethnic, look at China, or India, or Indonesia. So reflecting 'the world as it is' would mean a LotR where the elves live here, and the humans live there, and there isn't much assimilation. Hobbits live in the Shire, there are no elves there for Bilbo to meet because Tolkien's world is not diverse, it's actually just like our world where we live largely in ethnic silos, with the white democracies being a mix of races but only to a certain degree, and geographically limited.

  • @Norvik_-ug3ge

@@dgtheone What has the real world got to do with a fantasy world based on a real world time and place, dark ages Europe, that was NOT racially diverse whatsoever? Can you imagine a Chinese film studio making a film of an ancient Chinese legend, and casting white European actors in the roles of Chinese sorcerers or bandits or martial arts heroes? It's okay for some stories to be told by white people about other white people. It's not racist, anymore than the Colour Purple is racist because it is almost entirely about black characters. There are non-white humans in Middle-Earth, for example the land of Harad is a Middle East analogue, but no one is complaining about that. Because they were not shoved in there by woke hacks, Tolkien created that. What people object to is these utterly untalented hack writers and their idiot producers casting non-white actors and actresses in white roles just to proclaim how woke they are, and thinking they can write a better Tolkien script/book than Tolkien did.

Christopher Tolkien would disagree with Peter Jackson's LOTR being respectful of his father's work. He said of those films, "The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing." I think that is an erudite way of saying Peter Jackson was pissing on his father's grave. Yet, ultimately, Tolkien's LOTR survives Jackson's films and the two complement each other. The Amazon series seems likely to take bigger liberties than Jackson (though Jackson did take liberties), but Tolkien made changes from the sources he was inspired by too. That just how art works. Will the Amazon series be good? Probably not, most TV series are not. But if it turns out to be well written then you shouldn't hate it simply because it deviates from the source material. The present day conceptions of Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Thor and many other stories are often very different from the source material in which thise figures arose. There's room for the Marvel's Thor along side Norse mythological Thor, without anyone pissing on anyone else.

Here’s the thing, as they are clearly adding characters and using lesser known plot arcs or the story, they will have little to go on as far as leaning on Tolkien’s existing narratives. It’s not just Tolkien’s world building that is so great, but the story within. In this case Amazon can’t rely on a fleshed out story. So they’re going to have to concoct a narrative around a few existing guide posts. It’s probably why they chose this route, because it had the fewest constraints. We all saw what happened to GOT when they ran out of Martin. Even with a rough outline they still managed to bungle 5 great seasons and one average season with 2 truncated seasons. Amazon assumes the lack of a fleshed out narrative is a bonus that allows them carte blanche to write whatever. It will absolutely be their downfall. The assumption here is that it’s Tolkien’s world alone that has appeal and that any story in Middle earth will be successful by proxy. But a shite story that takes place in Middle Earth is still a shite story. And the one thing they did have going for them, Tolkien’s world is now being Morgothed. That’s my own neologism, synonymous with corruption. So not only do they not have an actual Tolkien narrative to follow, they’ve altered the world we love so much.

The speed with which they released article after article excusing this mess and attacking the fans as ists and phobes for not agreeing or wanting their obvious woke agenda is so laughably transparent. These people have no shame and now JRR Tolkien's work gets to suffer because of it.

Tolkien's work won't suffer I think. Fortunately, it is eternally imprinted into texts he has left for us and this half-baked disaster won't change that ever. Moreover, it will emphasize how detailed and coherent Tolkien's work is and how we should treasure it.

Well if you think black people don't exist in tolkien's world, you are both ignorant and racist. Actual fans know that LOTR is supposed to be historical record, of Earth. Which has black people on it. So only ignorant fans mad that non-white people are on screen would say something stupid.

Studios keep “fixing” IPs for modern times. Alienating and pissing off the fan base and pissing on the source material. The only way this stops is 1. Fans don’t support this and 2. People make competitive stories that don’t try to fix things. Happy to see yourself and a few other youtubers push back on shows that “improve” the source material.

I would love a second small budget animation of the main parts of the Second Age that stay true to the lore, which would be better then a massive budget live action post modern over-pop version. I would watch both, then know that the truer animated version would be the one to last agelessly.

To be fair about Galadriel, Tolkien did wrote this on Galadriel back in Aman in Unfinished Tales: *"Her [Galadriel's] mother-name was Nerwen 'man-maiden', and she grew to be tall beyond the measure even of the women of the Noldor; she was strong of body, mind, and will, a match for both the loremasters and the athletes of the Eldar in the days of their youth"* and in Letters: *[She] was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair like a crown when taking part in athletic feats."* But still in the Second Age she is definently not supposed to be young or brash, and we do not have any evidence for her participating in actual combat with armor and sword. Though she defiently used her magic against armies.

I mostly agree, except for a few points about Galadriel - particularly any comparison between her and the Virgin Mary. Galadriel was very rebellious, prideful and headstrong, particularly in the First Age. Her "mother name" is Nerwen meaning "man maiden" because she is tall, athletic and mighty. She takes part in the rebellion against the Valar but continues to hold an abiding reverence for them. In this way, she is conflicted. She is not conflicted in her disregard for Feanor (maker of the Silmarils and the reason for most of the Elf trouble in the First Age). It is implied but not explicitly stated in Lost Tales that she physically fights against Feanor's host in the Kinslaying. Kind of a 50/50 call as to whether she is a warrior-maiden, but maybe acceptable if they use those armor scenes are flashbacks to the First Age. Galadriel wanted a place to rule and order on her own, outside the tutelage of the Valar or any other authority. She was prideful and haughty to the point of being nearly as bad as Feanor- not the loving, God-fearing, figure we Catholics revere as the Virgin Mary. She refused the pardon of the Valar just because. The passage in LOTR when she refuses the ring is that much more impactful in knowing that she had been so intractable and desirous of ruling for thousands of years. That is why it is called the Trial of Galadriel. By the Third Age, she is weary of the struggle and "has come fully into her wisdaom." This is the gentle, wise, prophesying Galadriel we see in LOTR, but it is the culmination of an onerous personal journey.

With the money and backing this series has they could have hired top tier writing talent and made their own fantasy series hiring black stars as the main characters but of course why do that when they can corrupt a established franchise. This is a fantasy series so the need to shove 'modern ideals' into the show is laughable.

Why they do this, beren and luthien, golfindel vs the balrog, morgoth single combat fingolfin, the siege of gondolin, what are they thinking. Tolkien is not about modern shiit, is about the god vs evil, light vs darkness, balance and nature vs greedy progress and industrial society.

So she's going to be a Rey version of Galadriel essentially: 1. Stunning, flawless and brave. Maybe the odd faux inconsequential challenge thrown in to create an illusion of flaw or peril. 2. Young and inexperienced but already has all the powers and competence she needs without a narrative of earning them. 3. She'll routinely roll her eyes at and give speeches about all the useless white inherently corrupt characters wrecking the world, whilst condescendingly over-praising all the black elves, hobbits and men who are the 'true hope for Middle Earth'.
