Amazon BRIS Dinghy - 2 Year Update

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a 2 year update on our Chinese Amazon BRIS dinghies. Over the past 2 years, we have run these boats in both freshwater and saltwater. Overall, they performed very well and are a lot of fun for the price. Follow us along as we detail what the ownership experience has been.
We typically run these boats with Chinese Hangkai outboards. So if you would like to know more about them, consider checking out some of our other videos.

I just ordered the BRIS 14.1 it comes with the heavy-duty Pvc... Do you think a 12 hp Hangkai would be strong enough for 4 adults?

I have read conflicting recommendations on how best to store the Bris (I own a 12') over the winter up north.

Do you have any smaller dinghies with the drop stitch flooring and bench seats you'd be willing to sell? I'm looking to get one.

I live on Lake Norman & noticed a red & a gray inflatable a few coves away, in the Sherrills Ford area. I have a 12.5' gray Mars that I got for keeping in our Sprinter, but have mostly just used it on Lake Norman. I've recently discovered a few slow leaks. I soaped it down & realized that the valves needed to be tightened a little and also found tiny leaks on each side tube where the seam tape overlaps. The worst leak was on the air floor, where I found a tiny metal splinter. I bought a quart of TubeSeal inflatable sealant and am trying it today. I'm doing the air floor first since it's the worst leak and also because it's the easiest to manage. I'm only inflating the floor to 1/2 pressure since 10 psi would make it harder for the sealant to do its job. Fingers crossed. :)

Hey that was most likely us! We haven't seen any other inflatables out on Lake Norman, maybe we'll cross paths one day. I'm interested in how well the TubeSeal works. Maybe it can fix the small leak in the keel of the red dinghy.

@@HufflerGarage The ToobSeal stopped the leak. I pumped it up to 10 psi late yesterday and it's still holding. Hopefully, it's permanent. Spray some soapy water on your keel tube to determine where the leak is located. If it holds working pressure for a day or two I'd think the sealer will work. Actually, if the leak isn't in a tricky area you might want to try a patch first since the boats come with a patch kit.

Thanks for the nice detailed review! Does UV make the PVC turn sticky? Do you cover it when not in use, to protect from the sun?

  • @HufflerGarage

No so far nothing has become sticky. The only UV damage we've seen is that on the grey dinghy, the plastic pieces on the oar mounts have yellowed just a little bit. We typically keep them in the basement garage when not using them although the first winter we had them we left them outside for a few months and they got moldy, but cleaned up fine and sometimes in the summer when we're using them a lot we'll leave them tied to the dock for a month or so. We make sure to clean them a couple times a year with a special dinghy cleaner/UV protectant.

I'm not sure the exact dimensions folded down, but here is a pack down video we made where you can get an idea of the size: kzread.info/dash/bejne/omhlktpvpL3RlZs.html I was able to fit it in the trunk of a Chrysler 200.

I would go for the Hangkai 18 for that setup. I think the 12 might have trouble getting up on plane. We've tested the 12 on the 10 FT with 3 adults and it will plane, but its pushing it.

@Huffler Garage Thank you for your reply. I see Walmart carries the 18 hp so I will check it out. Anything I need for the 18 hp you could let me know of or references me to a video would be greatly appreciated

Hi I am planning to buy 10 foot Bris, do you have good experience with it so far? I am thinking to install a outboard Motor on it, use it for Fishing and just have fun in lake and ocean in summer ( 3 PEOPLE ), Any advise will be appreciate it. THANKS from Vancouver, CANADA

They've been great so far. No leaks or fading and they're very fun on the lake and on the ocean. If you're going to run with 3 people, I'd highly recommend getting the maximum HP outboard that the boat will support, otherwise it might not get on plane and you will be going very slow.

If youre riding on rough water to avoid the seats popping out, you can alway sit on the tube itself

I would also be concerned about insurance (ie, if something goes wrong insurance company will not pay) and in some juridictions legal ramifications...

Bris boats look good. However in my experience, gained by wat of a lot of grief, I am of the opinion that they do not stand behind their product if there is a problem..... and that they use deceptive practices to avoid warranty work. From day one the boat I bought had a leak.... they strung me along and avoided me until the warranty period was over. Then then offered to sell be new again. I am of the impression one should stay far away from Bris. All aforementioned is my sole opinion of course
