Amazing Waterspout Encounter Caught on Video | National Geographic

Ойын-сауық

In video captured on June 23, strong winds suddenly form off Long Beach Island's Brant Beach, in New Jersey. Though the videographer refers to a "tornado," the National Weather Service has classified it as a "weak waterspout": a column of cloud-filled wind rotating over a body of water. The rotation can be seen in a close look at the video. The storm caused localized damage and reportedly even picked up a 16-foot boat and then dropped it several blocks away.

Watch: While catching the sunset on Long Beach Island, two friends witnessed a harrowing phenomenon called a waterspout, in which a ferocious wall of wind whirls atop a body of water. See the footage-and find out what caused it.

Sorry, this is NOT a water spout... This is a strong out flow from a storm, not even tornadic.

Looks more like a Dericho spawned micro-burst ...straight lines winds. Can be just as destructive as Tornadoes.

Considering how many airliners they've downed during landing and takeoff, microbursts are honestly probably more of a public safety threat.

Doesn't look like a waterspout. More like straight line winds coming from a squall line.

Totally agree. The waves are all straight line, and radially-disturbed like they're ripples from an impact.

I saw really closely that it was a waterspout but it was moving extremely fast and u can see a small rotation when u watch it carefully and the storm that caused it was a shelf cloud which could produce straight line winds and damage. The waterspout was a EF2 tornado strength when it passed the house there so they were lucky.
