True, but British Columbia is a very calm area. Not much conflict occurs here. The international airport has several wooden structures, waterfalls, and gardens with fish in. Wow, better than Japan. I took a 50 year old Harbour Air DHC-2 or DHC-3 From Whistler to a glacial lake.

I'm so glad to see you do this one Paul. I live in Victoria bc and I take the seaplane all the time for work. The Victoria to Vancouver is even more spectacular as it flies over the gulf islands and the landing in Victoria crowded and small harbour is amazing. If you get the chance try the helijet from Vancouver harbour to either Victoria or Nanaimo. The service is even more first class and quite the experience. Because seaplane need light to land on water, and fly VFR or in poor weather modified VFR they're limited in winter to daylight hours, but helijet flies IFR and can land at night. So in winter we rely on helijet more than seaplanes.

As a local, have flown with harbour Air many times. What a thrill to fly in a seaplane over such beautiful scenery - it never gets old. The single engine Beaver is a real thrill - you need to put on hearing protection for take off as the engine is so loud. The flight into Victoria harbour is a real treat. The convenience cant be beat as well - downtown to downtown and no security lines. Another option from Vancouver Harbour is to take the Helijet helicopter service to Victoria and Nanaimo and they can fly in weather that the seaplanes cannot.

This brings back memories. I've actually eaten lunch in the pub you show at the beginning, in the harbour of Nanaimo. But back in 1983 I worked for IBM Canada in a building (now an art gallery) that faced the harbour in Vancouver. I used to marvel how the colour of the water would change depending on the sky, from grey to deep blue. Haven't been on a seaplane yet, but if the chance came up, I would jump at it. Small planes are fun.

I live on Vancouver Island and this is a very civilized way to travel.

Fantastic Paul! Just five days after you did that flight I did the 'Mail Run'. That goes from Vancouver Harbour at 08:40 to Ganges on Salt Spring Island where you change from the Turbo Otter to a Beaver which makes the short hop (6 miles!) to Maple Bay on Vancouver Island. You just spend ten minutes there before you fly back to Ganges where you have a couple of hours to wander round the town. Then it's back on the Otter to Vancouver Harbour, a memorable trip for CAD235. For good measure I then got a scheduled flight to Victoria Harbour, sat in the copilot seat, making it five flights in the space of a few hours. Glorious weather too. There's definitely something about seaplanes. I'm 57 years old and each of the four different airframes I flew in was older than me!
