I found this dresser on the side of the road on my way to get some food. It looked sad so I took it home and completely transformed it to a beautiful Mid century Modern dresser with a brass inlay.

For something you found on the side of the road you turned it into a Masterpiece!!!
If this was a musical concert, it would have received a standing ovation… or two! Unbelievably beautiful, such skill! Thank you, it was a delight to watch!
The legs and handles are such a sympathetic match for the era. Utterly fab
I love this channel. He doesn’t just slap paint on a project but repairs and restores and takes you along with him on the way. Wonderful!

You are wizard, magician, your hands are golden!
The mark on the wood is called a "Utility Mark". It appears on a lot of items produced in the UK during the 1940s. During WWII, imported materials were limited and only used to manufacture items that were most needed. First time I came across it was on some woollen underwear(!) but my parents were both children during the war, so they were able to tell me what it meant. Your chest of drawers manufacturer must have been already stocked up on mahogany before the shortages of imported materials!

Yes! I did a deep dive on this when I found this makers mark/logo on original fabric on an antique Birchcraft High Wycombe chair.
Mahogany + beeswax = Celebration!! Gosh, the colours and depth of colour in that wood has me drooling! It's gorgeous. And the dovetail joints of the drawers are a lovely feature in the contrasting woods. You made so many good decisions here, to make the most of the materials at hand to sort out issues and problems... I've not seen anyone do that before and I'm well impressed. A lovely, lovely job. 🤓👍👍👏👏👏👍👍🤓
I can hear the dresser saying thank you. It turned out so beautiful, the wood seems so alive again.

Thank you ☺️ and that’s the only way to do it in my opinion. That’s how I’d like someone to sell it to me.
That is a War time 'UTILITY' Dressing Table made between 1941 - 1951. The CC 41 stands for 'Civilian Clothing', and the 41 denotes the date. Info from a book about UTILITY Furniture and Fashion. You made a great job of it and it's good to see it live on for many more years. Well done 🙂
I love seeing people find joy in restoring things most people would dismiss as unsalvageable; especially nowadays when everything is treated as disposable
Interesting about the CC41 utility mark- I Wiki'd it and read about it. So you can date your dresser to between 1941 and 1951. It's just lovely, thanks for saving it.

Well, I must say, you did luck out in finding a piece of solid Mahogany. But this piece was just waiting to be discovered by you. You brought her back to her glory days and she can once again be the beauty that she was originally.. all of your pieces are works of art. Magnificent!!!

Some long gone woodworker lives again with his labor acknowledged, the light shining upon him and his creation. What could be better company as you have this in your home. Thank you.
You gave an unloved piece of furniture of more than 70 years old, left by the roadside a new lease of life. If it could speak it would say; thank you thank you thank you 😄
When you said it was solid mahogany, I thought "And they painted it?" After you sanded the top,I noticed how pretty the grain was. Then you brushed on the oxalic acid, which really made that grain pop, and I couldn't wait to see the finished piece. It was well worth the wait. Simply stunning.

This is so gorgeous😍😍. I can't believe that was solid mahogany under those drawers. The dovetails with the mahogany contrast were just so good. The little trim details you added to the top reusing the bottom - on point. The pop of brass on the sides with the black to contrast. I just love this piece. Its so good Jay!

One of the most beautiful transformation that I’ve ever seen…gorgeous wood, nice paint and somptuous metallic trim detail. You’re a pro. Thank you for sharing your work, skills and passion with us
The 'CC' mark was put on furniture produced in UK during and after ww2 when wood was scarce. As I understand they rationed what furniture was made due to ensure they maximised raw materials. Pieces with the CC mark were always of good construction and sold at reasonable price. I understand after the war you could only by a piece of furniture if you were in definite need. Thanks for your great videos - from Birmingham England🇬🇧

I watch a lot of these restorations, and I'm confident to say that you are one with impeccable taste and who respects a quality timber grain. The care taken inside the draws is commonly overlooked, however you took as much care for the inside as you did the outside. That brass inlay strip was a phenomenal touch.

What beauty was hidden under all that paint! It just needed you to bring it back! Amazing job! ❤
I like that you spend the time to restore beautiful wood so often. Painting can be very pretty and sometimes when the wood is too damaged it just makes sense, but sometimes it's just an abomination to paint beautiful wooden furniture pieces.
Attention to detail is incredible. The interior of the drawers is beautiful! I watch a lot of furniture restorations (like every night to relax) but this one blows me away.

Absolutely love what you've done here, and that final touch of the brass strip dividing the painted side and the mahogany was genius.
I enjoyed seeing your tools and how you use them no end. Your technical and creative skills are a delight.
