Hi everyone! Let me know what you think about Smartify Nodes, AND if you want me to create more tutorials for it in the future! :)

Purchased this add-on a week or so ago .. have been playing with it some and just now diving into creating my own smart materials. Really powerful little tool and I'm sure I'm going to get a lot out of it. Would love to see you do a tutorial using it with some hard surface texturing .. like UV unwrapping a space ship, or something similar, and using 'sharp' edges to define different areas to apply multiple shaders. I know that sounds like a long one .... but would be cool for people that struggle with the task.

This is something I'd like to dive into a bit more - I was actually pretty overwhelmed by the whole thing at first, but once you wrap your mind around the initial principles you start to see the power of the add-on. Honestly I think there's so much in this add-on it's like a multiple part tutorial series to get to all the good stuff

@@TheCGEssentials Couldn't agree more ... It's an add-on that could easily be worth 2x the price, was so happy to nab it when I first saw it pop up. It basically takes all the best set-ups from several top rated add-ons and puts them into one single package. I'm going to work with it on terrains, ships and other geometries to see how far it can get pushed or where it has limits.

Just a precision, at 10:40 no need to input vector into the AO mask, but the reason the AO is this noisy, is that blender has materials by default on "Bump" instead of "displacement only", in the material settings. So AO gets super affected by the height texture via this bump setting. With the smart shader you have a slider to set your bump from 0% to 100%, usually 20% looks good, while in blender you just have this toggle with/or/without bump in the material settings.

Lol - I agree - it's a lot - that's part of why I recommend you start by building your own Smart Shader first so you understand what the nodes do. Really powerful, but figuring out where to start can be...challenging

thank you, already bought it, pretty good! :) I have a question, maybe you know all these addons with mixed materials after adding them to the library of assets, also add all of their groups of nodes automatically at first it seemed very convinient, but now my list of node groups so bloated and when searching for AO/Grunge/Gradient/Mix I get a whole list, although I wanted just a standard one is there any way manually hide and show what will be shown in Search of node groups?

    This I don't know unfortunately

  • 10 ай бұрын

Yes, any data you bring to a blender file will bring along all the connected data, so a mesh will bring the armature but also all the curves used in the armature ect.. So smart materials will always bring any node gorup they used. But in the asset browser at the top, you can use "append" or "append (reuse)" instead of "follow pref", meaning any node group already present will get re-used, or duplicated (.001) if using "append" only. In any case you can swap groups & cleanup anything, so it's easy to keep a blend file healthy.
