Amazing Mechanical Design App

Ғылым және технология

This App will change your (mechanical) life
•••
I’ve only recently discovered MotionGen.io which is basically a sketching tool for mechanical linkages. Once you’ve sketched a linkage out, it maps out the motions that each link will follow. Now I am able to quickly sketch out a mechanism before moving it into Solidworks. It’s way easier to re-size and re-position the parts to see how each one will affect the output of the system. This has allowed me to speed up the mechanical design process, and get to 3D printing (the best part) so much faster.

I had a under graduate program to make basically this. Problem was we're engineers so we knew the physics (the particular 2d planar linkage model used was designed by the professor) but none of us really knew software design. It worked, could give you the position, velocity, acceleration, momentum and force on any link or joint in the mechanism but was basically impossible for anyone but us to input data and utilize it. Fun project, I now work in Controls Systems

I remember going to a family and friends open house at Boeing in 95-96-ish. They had just that month rolled out the new 3D CAD software. All the drafting tables where still piled up against at least 2 walls. They were using it to retrofit the 747, into a cargo transport. He was an engineer on the side cargo door and floor retrofitting at Boeing and showed me how the software animation flagged a conflicting part collision on the main landing gear. Basically a couple of bolts in the gear assembly. To think we have that now for free, at home.

I write software / windows-admin scripts, but that's just my secret identity. My real passion is thinking of something awesome, hyper-focusing, making a bunch of failed prototypes, accepting one that almost meets what I was thinking about, and then imagining an entirely new project to start on. I'll totally go back and finish those others later, I swear.
