Based off the original invention by Theo Jansen, the Strandbeest is a mechanical walking creature that harnesses the power of the wind to walk along the beach. This particular version is robotic, using a GPS and Compass to navigate its way through the world.

Idea: give it a neck and a scoop so it can pick up sand every now and then, as if it were looking for something. You could even have a mesh that filters it out, so it can collect trash and rocks.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, it will be an environmentally friendly beach cleaner and if you put a solar panel on it for the battery of the servos it would not be maintained, it would be brutal, causing the institutes of the coastal towns themselves to do it in their classes , a whole circle...

I would love to build a version of the Strandbeest, add a solar panel and have it run all day on the beach at our place. I've already done something like that at Scrap Mechanik and was always happy when I ran into Robi.

Its such an awesome invention! Glad you can appreciate 🙏 one day I would love to make one out of aluminum!
I think it would be really cool to try to keep the original intent of these being wind powered alive, I really liked the windmill on the one, It would be really neat to have windmills and then electronics operating a clutch sort of system to the legs to control where it goes, maybe even giving the beest a way to use the wind to walk against it! To further attempt to make it self contained the clutch could be powered by solar. regardless your project is really cool, I remember being obsessed with these in the early 2000s and wanting to build one myself!

Definitely been on my list toale one of these for awhile now! And i just bit the bullet and bought a Bambu Lab P1S as I was so frustrated with the extremely inconsistent results of my Ender 3 Pros. I don't mind tinkering, but when the same settings and process get different results, I draw the line. So going back and printing some of your other designs like clock etc that I bought and couldn't get to print on previous printers. This will definitely be getting printed too!!!!!! Can't wait! Loved the David Attenborough impression! Made me laugh out loud more than once! I bought a hundred pack of skate bearings on Amazon a while back, so I could theoretically make this, but I'm just about convinced that they'd rust away into nothing as soon as they were exposed to sea air. The PLA on the other hand, that's not going *anywhere!* Just last night, I checked on a chimney I 3D printed for my birdhouse years ago from a 3kg spool of white PLA, and despite being out in the elements for literal years, it looks the same as the day I printed it. (cough "biodegradable" cough)

I didn't see it asked in the comments but how fast can you make it go?? Is the limitation on the motor or is the path that the walking legs make?? It seems that it would be able to go faster on a paved surface rather than on beach sand. If you add a variable speed motor and sensors to it would that make it possible for the machine to vary its speed according to the surface. Just fascinated by this.
@Engineezy
6 ай бұрын
For this version the limitation is the motors! With some beefier motors and motor drivers it could go much faster, but then of course the strength of the parts becomes a factor!
