So the "long note" you're hearing is actually Roger's vocals fading out and being blended with Rick on the synthesizer. It's perfectly mixed so you can't tell where his voice ends and the synth begins.

The part that sounds like "church prayer" is a prayer from the sheeps point of view. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, he hath great power and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water." Roger Waters was inspired by George Orwell's book "Animal Farm", while recording the "Animals" album. At the end of this song Roger Waters is basically saying all human beings are essentially the same. Power corrupts. Notice how the sheep had an uprising and killed the dogs. They thought themselves became the new dogs and began to abuse the weaker.

I've seen Pink Floyd four times in three different decades and the most mind-blowing concert was the one in 1977 called the In the flesh tour!! They played all of Animals took a short break and then played all of Wish You Were Here and then came out and played half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore with the original four members!!! I saw at least two dozen people having to be hauled out from passing out or freaking out because of the intensity of the visuals the lights and the music!! That concert is one of about 100 I've seen in my life and the most amazing one I've seen and the only one where my wife and I drove all the way home and didn't say a word!!! Some of the people that were hauled out were freaking out because they had taken acid and we're not ready for what was about to happen!!

Gilmour on 🔥 on a Fender Telecaster for Animals. 3rd Time with Gilmour led Floyd doing greatest hits after Momentary Lapse of Reason, 4th Time, Pulse tour. Gilmour twice solo in the 80s and Roger 4 times solo including The Wall. My Pink Floyd experience never stops, those memories will last forever.

It was reported that there was 97000 tickets sold for the concert...the old Cleveland Municipal stadium seated 83000 ( 88000 with standing room ) but the whole field was filled with fans. It was a sold-out crowd of 12,000 and was indoors in a smaller place so it was really up close and the whole crowd was absolutely silent and mesmerized!! Saw them in 74 for the Dark Side of the Moon tour, in 87 for the momentary lapse of reason tour and of course the 94 Pulse concert at ASU's Sun devil stadium! But that 77 show being indoors there was so much pot being smoked that it was almost like another effect with the haze in the air!! The sound was like we were inside a giant set of headphones it was so perfect!! Anyway I went in sober and I came out wanting to go through a drive-thru and getting a bucket full of hamburgers and tacos!! Still the best concert of all the concerts I've been to!!!!

Sheep makes me visualize their music so perfectly... First all sheep live their peaceful life, but the bass comes up slowly, like there is something bad about to happen, but as the bass is still quiet, it doesn't bother them. Then the sound explosion is like that something bad actually happened, for many of them "suddenly", but... if they only dare to hear the warning... Then there is a slaughterhouse part, like they failed to defend. There is a brain washing moment after which they are all threatened, aggressive music turns into this perfect guitar riffs that fades away and "the peace" comes back and it is all going back to where it all started. The sheep will be sheep forever! This song has such a great connection of the meaning, background theme, sounds, music and lyrics, like it's a real movie!

When I saw Floyd during the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour at the massive (old) Wembley stadium, the sound of the animals was being played on their quadrophonic sound system, fading louder until they came on stage to perform at the start of the show. Usually you just want to lose yourself in a Pink Floyd song. For this album, pulling up the lyrics is helpful as well. Dogs is probably my favorite, but all three of the major songs on this album are great. Dogs is very Gilmour heavy as he doesn’t sing on the others, and his guitar work on Dogs is among his best. They actually were working on these songs and performing them shortly after Dark Side of the Moon but they didn’t record them for the next album (Wish You Were Here). They took the time to let the songs germinate until they got them just right. Most musicians don’t take the time to do that. Respectful to their craft was a great way to put it.

In later years, you would never hear a song before it was put on record. A few minor exceptions of course, David did Smile and probably a couple of others live first, but as a band, that of like 1970-1975 they performed many tracks live before they committed it to record. While listening to the album Animals, you should keep in mind a quote from Animal Farm: 'All animals are equal, it's just that some are more equal than others.' We Floydians aren't sheep! I can't see you having reacted to Radiohead yet and whilst there will be only ever be one Pink Floyd Radiohead are a band to experience and Thom Yorke's voice is one of a kind. Most people start off with "Creep" which they saw as a millstone or "Paranoid Android" which can be an assault on the senses so I would recommend "Karma Police" as an introduction to their early sound or the atmospheric "Street Spirit (Fade out) " for Thom at his very best

Ah, we're getting into the tracks that don't / didn't get played on the radio so much, this is my stuff right here. I say it so often, it's true here too...this groove is filthy. You seem to understand the dynamic of the intro/outro in terms of these albums except that I would add that they are also often integral to the outro/intro of the last/next song. I believe this album calls on the Great Book Animal Farm for its subject matter. If Any reader of this post has not read this masterpiece I would recommend you to remedy that situation as soon as practical. Not to bang on and on about the continuity, but you will understand it completely when you start having whole albums for your souls supper. Cheers sister, had a great time Saturday in your Twitch chat. Balaron.

Quote; "Loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning” herd of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals". Anyhow... A brilliant concept album by Pink Floyd, one of the best in my humble opinion!
