    The pricing structure of the newest and coolest blade steels is so stupid. Most steels cost within a few bucks of each other. Other than super hard to machine steels there’s no noticeable difference between VG10, S35vn or s45vn. But people will pay $500+ for s45vn but not $100 for vg10? You’ve all been brainwashed.

    I got to agree with you on that one . Some guys comments kill me about steels choices. I bet youd take their favorite folder swap the blade with an aus8 or 8cr13mov and stamp m390 or whatever they'd probably like it more....😅

    As a guy who chases steel, I kinda gotta agree with you. I was thinking the other day I really end up using D2 blades harder than any of mine in the “super steel” category and I’ve yet to have an issue. I’ve been paying four times as much for no obvious reason beyond bragging rights. Problem is none of my friends have any idea of the difference between pot metal and super steels, so even the bragging rights are pointless. Brainwashed by marketing campaigns, simple as that.

    I have two of them after falling in love with my first one I bought to "test out" Kansepts knives, I highly recommend. Everything he said was pretty spot on in the video, the stonewashed s35vn blade with green G10 is my favorite. My brother said he isn't a fan of gentleman style knives when I showed him a picture of mine but after I brought it over and he played around with it he loves it.

    The We Speedster is the one We knife I really don’t understand why it wasn’t more popular. Loved the slight nod to the 1911 of the flipper tab. The Real Steel Lynx too. It’s the most Shiro like knife under $300 I’ve ever handled that wasn’t an actual clone. Like a bigger better premium Atmos, which is one of my favorite Kershaw designs ever.

I’ve been collecting for 20 years and own over 300 knives with most being in the $200-$300 range (Spyderco, Benchmade, WE, Hogue, you name it), and I swear to God that Hierophant competes with all of them! Even the heat treat is great. I had it Rockwell tested and it came in at 60.3. Not shabby for 154. I’m telling you guys, that knife is great!

    Great points, J. I’m glad that you’re discussing S35 vs M390. Unless it’s a small, real light use knife I almost always prefer S35. It’s a better choice for working knives like the Praxis because it’s easier to sharpen and quite a bit tougher with pretty close edge retention. The toughness also makes it more stable for super thin grinds, where M390 can get chippy at low angles, regardless of the HT. We need to push back against the misconception that edge retention is the be all and end all measure of quality across the board and the idea that newer steels are better. Whenever China starts using a particular steel on less expensive offerings, it gets an automatic downgrade in people’s minds. S35 is one of the best, most well rounded steels on the market and is applicable to a wide range of designs. Magnacut fits into the same kind of role, so I find it funny when people criticize it for not having magical powers that keep it sharp longer than Maxamet just because of the general hype around it. There’s a place for almost every blade steel if people can just open their minds and do a little research and testing.

  • @NeevesKnives

    @NeevesKnives

    Жыл бұрын

    yeah i dont think most people understand that theres a lot of variables when considering a good steel, and they all play a factor from the geometry to the type of use and enviroments, edge retention is just one factor and in many if not most cases might not be what you want the most of, i can think of many steels id prefer on certain knives way way over another that has better wear resistance

    I emailed Civivi about making the Praxis with a more premium steel and was happy when We Knife came out with their Praxis but…they made it thinner and I wanted the same dimensions because of how good the Civivi Praxis is. I don’t care about Titanium as much as others and would have been happy with G10 but they had to make it different. Slightly disappointed but maybe they will come out with more similar versions only with a better steel.

    Yes it is the price , people are not buying expensive knives now that cost $100.00 or more . The economy and the leaders in charge now are the problem. Only the Great Eastern cutlery knives sell out like crazy and fast . They have a great following of collectors who will pay the high prices. Otherwise sales of other brands are way down from knife websites I look at frequently . Because of the high cost of living many people if they want a knife will buy budget knives only.

    To me most of those knives are pretty run of the mill or over priced keeping them from being more popular.

    Civivi is not a good value in my opinion. I’ve had a few and they don’t hold an edge in comparison to a quality brand’s equivalent steel.

    Sorry, but I'm not going to buy a knife from a no-name Chinese brand. Not when most don't use the steels they advertise, and that particular brand tries to pass itself off as Japanese.
