Amazing! How Jesus is Like the Tabernacle of Moses: How to find Jesus in the OT pt14

A survey of examples of how Jesus is pictured in the Tabernacle of Moses. This is one of my favorite examples of typology! From the bronze altar to the ark of the covenant to the materials used in the coverings of the tabernacle we have wonderful illustrations of the person and work of Christ.

My uncle told me that the day my mother died in 68, she was weak from her long battle with Bright’s Disease, but was able to walk into the hospital. They got her checked into a room. The doctor said she might live a week or two at most. They drove back to the farm in Mead, OK. My granddad went out to the barn and got down on his knees and asked God not to let her suffer. Less than an hour later they called and told them to get back to the hospital. Before they made it to the hospital, my mother was in paradise with her Lord. Think about the peace that must’ve given to my granddad to have that prayer answered. He was a poor dairy farmer. In Christ Jesus, we undeserving sinners can come to him and have salvation.

An interesting point. God needs to be separated from us not because God protected from our sin but because we need to be protected from God holding holiness. I sometimes find non-christians take offense at the notion that we are not good enough for God. I think what they are failing to grasp is not the simply extent of our sin but more importantly the extent of God's holiness.

Agreed. What people fail to understand is that imperfection cannot remain in the presence of perfection. People fail to get the point of the story of Uzzah, who reached out to steady the Arc when David was bringing it to Jerusalem, wrongly, by putting it on an ox cart. People don't understand why GOD killed Uzzah when his intention was just to keep the Arc from falling into the mud. The problem is, the mud does what GOOD made it to do. It dries out and becomes dirt in the heat, you can plant seeds into it and it will provide for the plant. Mankind does NOT do what GOD created mankind to do. We are imperfect. Had the Arc fallen into the mud, so be it, but imperfect, evil mankind cannot touch GOD'S Holiness, His Glory, and live, because of our sin, and because He is perfect.

These are all the opinions of men. What does God say? Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord when He is found, call Him when He is near. The wicked shall give up his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts, and he shall return to the Lord, Who shall have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," says the Lord. For My thoughts are not, etc.: My laws are not like the laws of man [lit. flesh and blood]. As for you, whoever confesses in judgment is found guilty, but, as for Me, whoever confesses and gives up his evil way, is granted clemency (Proverbs 28:13). God doesn't need you to be perfect. And "Besides Me there is no savior" Jesus is a man, he can't attone for your sins: I, I am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior. (Isaiah 43:11) This is the opinion of God

I just want to say, none of us could have seen the truth if not for His mercy and grace. Who can't? All humankind, including you and I - if not for His love. Maybe after 30 years you've forgotten what you were saved from, not by your own abilities? Forgotten that many still are enslaved. I don't know, it just seems a weirdly disingenuous thing for a Christian to say, "Who can't?" As if it should be a basic human function neglecting the miraculous nature of it? Nobody without the Spirit can, and we should be desperate to preach the gospel and plant seeds. That's how pure love would express itself, not wanting any to perish... it wouldn't self elevate or dehumanize anyone by saying who can't about something nobody can do and pretending it's shocking anyone doesn't just get it. Perhaps it could even seem a bit selfishly gleeful, instead of being grateful with solemnity and heartbreak for those not in that mercy. Our understanding is gifted, we shouldn't pretend it was always ours. So let's not get a big head about what one's been shown and made able to understand - don't bring it to the glory of men... Glorify God and thank Him for His mercy, even for enabling our own actions. I've found myself asking how people don't get it before just like you, at least for me it did nothing but potentially stroke pride. Nothing good comes for unironically using that mode of thought - no matter how passive and casual. If I'm entirely off base, awesome, but I hope you consider where that mode of thinking came from and how it developed. I know it's 4yr old, but you should be able to engage the situation if it's still your modus op and if not it's irrelevant.

I love that you are not 'dogmatic' about everything you teach. It's refreshing to hear you say things like "this might be conjecture" or "this is my opinion/interpretation". I have listened to many teachers who proclaim things as 'beyond question", yet when I go home to investigate, I find it is merely 'an opinion held by some scholars, but not all'. I find that quite disappointing because we all know that not everything in the Bible is crystal clear. Thanks for your honesty and integrity.😊

Some interesting facts on Gold- gold was hammered thin and overlaid on the wood pieces in the temple, gold is a precious metal, the most malleable of all metals, ductile, resistance to corrosion and chemical reactions, a good conductor of electricity. Gold is a noble metal, the most noble. It only has one stable isotope, it is a mononuclidic and monoisotopic. All in all, the tabernacle of Moses a fabulous type of Christ. Good stuff Mike!

The typology of Christ to Aaron's rod that blossomed is amazing :) (as is the significance of acacia wood.) (16:54) dead wood - "life out of death, showing you who God chooses" It was Jeremiah that saw the Almond tree (Jeremiah 1:11&12) (27:51) Another analogy that I have heard that could be applied here is the parallel to almonds being the first to bud in the dead of winter - to Christs sacrifice washing us whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7, Isaiah 1:18), during the harshest of conditions His salvation reaches out to us. Being the first of the trees that budded is also similar to Christ being the first-fruits of the resurrection of the dead.

There is no way the High Priest entered under the veil. He was holding the incense and the animal’s blood. He pushed the veil from right to left, representing the messiah atoning the souls left of the cross or back to Adam, then entered in. When finished he then backed out of the other side pushing the veil from left to right representing the atonement of the souls after the cross.

As I tweeted you yesterday, your series on Jesus in the OT has been invaluable to me in preparing to lead my small group in studying through the the Bible beginning in Genesis. Our pastor’s assignment to all groups has been to consider what we learn about the character of God and where we see Jesus foreshadowed as we study each passage. As the Lord’s timing would have it, we studied the instructions for building the Tabernacle and the high priestly garments on the same day you taught this! I have shared your content with my group before and will be sharing this as well. Thanks, brother!

21:50 See John 20;12 "And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. " The Mercy seat in the tabernacle was a shadow of the scene from the tomb. Blood from the sacrifice was applied to the mercy seat, blood from the body of messiah would drip onto the slab in the tomb where his body rested for 3 days. Also, there was an angelic honor guard (one at the head and the other at the feet) depicted on the mercy seat (shadow) and witnessed by Mary (fulfilment).

Great stuff, correlations between the tabernacle and Christ. About the lampstand menorah--the center or "root" light is the main light, the other 6 lights "branch out" from that. I can never look at a menorah without thinking about Jesus saying, "I am the vine, you are the branches..." To me, the menorah is a beautiful symbol of Christ in that way.

However, the Hannukiah (pronounced hah, nooh, key, ah) has 9 places for candles and is used in homes for Hannukah, the 8 day festival of lights. One of those 9 candles is called the Shemesh and is the servant candle that lights up the others incrementally as the days of Hannukah progress. I was raised Seventh-day Adventist, and I can recall when our pastor was consulting with me ahead of my baptism, they said that SDAs were the only church that taught how Jesus was represented in the Tabernacle. Later, after I was baptized into the church, I heard many Sabbath school teachers say the exact same thing. This video, as well as Allen Parr's video on his channel (The Beat) both demonstrate to me that this claim is false. Perhaps what SDAs who make that claim are actually referring to is the Investigative Judgment, but if that is the case then they should come right out and say that this is the exclusive doctrine, not how the Tabernacle represents Jesus. I don't know if it's deliberate dishonesty or a sincere mistake, but in either case they need to be more forthright about what they are teaching that is theirs alone.

Ive always found it curious how people that believe in the Old Testament can't see Jesus / Yahshua / Joshua in every story. If the Savior's name (Yahshua/Yahoshua/Yeshua) had been translated from Hebrew to Latin to English instead of through Greek first, we would have called Jesus "Joshua" to this very day. When Moses went up the mountain to meet God, Joshua was the only other one allowed to go up with him. At the tent of meeting Joshua was also present when God spoke to Moses. Moses, who brought the law to the children of Israel, died before seeing the Promised Land (Canaan) because he disobeyed God. Not even the one who brought the law was perfectly obedient and it is said there is no greater prophet than Moses. Joshua (Jesus) was the one who took the children of Israel out of the Wilderness of Sin they were wandering in due to unbelief, and brought them across the river into the Promised Land. How Jewish NON-believers can't see the symbolism here just absolutely baffles me.

TheJCFan Not to mention the fact that Joshua went up into the mountain against the explicit commands for Moses to go up alone. As well his name was not Joshua when they exited Egypt. His name was Hoshea, but it was changed to Yahshua by Moses. That made him the first person in the entire world to bear that portion of the true name after Moses received it at the burning bush. Joshua was 30 when he was baptized in the Red sea yet he did not get wet (1 COR 10:1-4). Yahshua was 30 when he was baptized by John the baptist. Joshua conquered 33 kings on either side of the river Jordan. Yahshua died at age 33. Joshua truly instituted the law contained in ordinances that was given from Mt Sinai, though Moses was front man. Yahshua fulfilled that same law at the cross. Joshua gave them rest in Jerusalem below and Yahshua gave them rest in Jerusalem above! These things and many, many, many more. Joshua was Yahshua!

It is wildly interesting that God demands we create no image to represent him. He wanted his position empty, not to be filled by a symbol. I think the worst thing we've done to God is anthropomorphisize Him with paintings like the ceiling of the sistine chapel. It has allowed atheists to call God, " a bearded man in the sky" when He is in fact nothing of the sort. He is not human. He is not "in the sky". He is not temporally bound. He is not a thing which can be described through physical comparison. His actions can be described. But any attempt at a physical representation does little more than diminish His status. This is not something "a bunch of sheep herders in the desert" would have come up with on their own.

I agree with everything you wrote. But God himself uses anthropomorphism to talk to us. As you wrote: God is Spirit and He fills all creation and everything that exists, only exist in Him. Have a blessed day.

  • @kaufmanat1

@@melquesedekcastro7480 eh... Kind of. He uses metaphors and analogy. Jesus used parables. I dont know if anthropomorohism is the word I'd use to ever describe God's descriptions of himself. God uses analogy to help us understand his nature. But explicit comparisons between the two, that haven't found. God certainly isn't human. It's akin to comparing a human to a screw driver. Don't you think?
