Amy is special in her way of singing with someone and not over them. Singing backup on this song wasn't as easy as Amy made it look. Most of today's singers try and out do the other one when they sing. Amy just sings in the background with the wonderful voice she has not worrying about being heard. But fitting in perfectly.

Another track to check out is Shatter Me from Lzzy and Lindsey Stirling. Lzzy has a wide vocal range, this is defiantly one of her more mellow songs, but her and Amy are friends and tour together a lot and do duets from both bands (Halestorm and Evanescence). Back from the Dead, Freak Like Me and I Miss the Misery are also ones to check out.

The best comment I ever read from someone about the talent of Amy Lee was that in a duet she could make a lawnmower sound so good it would be up for a Grammy. So combine her with the current queen of modern rock in Lzzy Hale and you know there will be magic. They are close friends in real life and it shows. And every time they do something together is is magic - just like this song. The version they did during lockdown - just Lzzy on her piano and both over the internet from different cities. The sheer scale of talent on display to do that is monumental.

It's too hard to make a list of the different women from the differemt genres. If we are keeping it rock, my list would be Lzzy, Amy, Ann, Stevie, Janis, and Taylor. If we go into metal then I have to throw in women like Floor, Tatiana, Courtney, Brittany, Maria, and others too. There's a lot of talented women in hard rock and metal right now.

Most people know that Amy Lee is the second best female rock singer ever, behind only Pat Benatar. But Lzzy Hale showed me what a fabulous voice she has overall. I’ve heard her do heavy stuff, but, here, you see her true talent. The amazing thing about these women is that their voices are nearly identical in all aspects, so they can trade off on lead vocal, because it would sound the same, whichever lady was singing lead. They need to do more stuff together.

It seems like talent recognizes talent. Lzzy is found on colabs with a ton of other artists from Apocolyptica, to Device (the Disturbed spinoff band), to Corey Taylor, Shinedown, Tom Keifer of Cinderella, Dream Theater...just to name a few.....but this?? Lzzy and Amy compliment each other so very well, it's as if they were cut from the same mold.

The Charismatic Voice actually did a really awesome interview with Lzzy Hale, and she did talk about Lzzy’s hands as she sings. This song was originally on Halestorm’s first album. Lzzy said she wrote it about what she thought love was, at the time. Amy (Lzzy’s bff) interpreted the song as what true friendship is, so they recorded this version together for Halestorm’s most recent album which is a compilation of “reimagined” versions of songs from their first four albums.

Last comment, I promise! I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone mention this yet, but did you notice that neither of them are dolled up with full faces of makeup etc? I mean yes, Lzzy had some lipstick on maybe but you know what I mean. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with makeup- especially in a video- but they are both so confident in themselves and their craft that they don’t have to focus on that material stuff. It could have a lot to do with their age and decades of experience in the industry where they probably could give two f&!ks what anyone thinks about it 😂

Omg- when you spoke about real singers using their fingers and arms etc to help express the emotion of what they’re singing…… focus on Scott from pentatonix pretty much EVERY time he sings He notorious for being a “hand singer”. Actually, with a capella in general- they use their hands as another way to keep their pace and rhythm steady. Liz and Amy are beasts tho! Back when Evanescence came out back in the 2000’s, I’ve loved Amy’s kind of operatic rock voice. But, once I heard Halestorm and Lzzy just KILLING it (she’s VERY restrained in this song actually compared to her rock songs), I tended to listen to them more. Then found out they were friends and sang together at times..
