I always say that a song can be sung so well in such beautiful voices, but for me it is only perfect when it reaches not only my ears but also my heart and soul. With Home Free you no longer need other groups. It doesn't matter what song, what genre, Home Free will make something of it. All different voices, but still one. And the collaboration with Peter Hollens is really amazing😉If there should be a 6th member at Home Free, it should be Peter Hollens 😊 I come from a very Christian family myself. My grandmother and my father were both pastors. My father, who also had a very beautiful voice, sang this song regularly. He died at the age of 50 and this song was also sung at his funeral. I was 6 years old but that is what I remember very well. From that moment on, the song has a special place in my heart. And Home Free ft Peter Hollens makes my favorite version of this.
My family is from Georgia. As a child, when we'd have family reunions, we'd all sing southern gospel songs in full harmony. Very musical family. This song was ALWAYS included. In fact, it's one of the first songs I ever learned. So much of my family is gone now. I miss those days so much. This rendition reminds me of those days and moves me so deeply. This is heavenly. Thank you for another wonderful analysis! On an unrelated note (pardon the pun), if you ever do any merch, you should market "Good Filth" as a signature (again, pardon the pun) tagline. Pair that with a visual of some luscious dissonant chords and slap it on a mug and shirt. 😁

When Austin Brown of HF was a kid he'd sometimes travel & sing with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia - I'd love for Peter & Austin to do a duet (I don't know which song - any song!).
Great reaction. I adore Peter Hollens. His range is so impressive. BTW, Amazing Grace is most definitely an English hymn. Written by John Newton (1725-1807), an English slave trader who became an Anglican minister, a hymn writer, and later a noted abolitionist. Portrayed masterfully by Albert Finney in a 2006 movie of the same name starring Ioan Gruffudd and Benedict Cumberbatch. In the movie set in 18th-century England, House of Commons member William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) and his close friend and a future prime minister, William Pitt (Benedict Cumberbatch), begin a lengthy battle to abolish Great Britain's slave trade. Although somber, is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and I recommend it.

8:56 - 9:09 love this part! Origins of Amazing Grace: John Newton was a slave trader -human trafficker -a pretty nasty and inhumane job. The John Newton "Amazing Grace" story includes a near-death experience on one of these slave ships. During a particularly violent storm off the coast of Ireland in 1748, Newton prayed desperately to God to save him and his ship from sinking. As the ship was tossed back and forth, some of the crew were swept overboard, but Newton was spared, and the ship reached safety. John Newton marks this event as his moment of conversion to Christianity which set him on a path towards redemption. It also has an Irish origin but sang by Baptists and Methodist Christians. Yes mostly in the US. John Newton was English. (Wiki)😢
Born & raised in Canada and heard it all the time - especially on bagpipes in parades and at funerals. Which sound antithetic to each other . . . I love this rendition. Peter Hollens & HF are a match made in heaven. My musical education is next to none and I've learned so much from the analyses & comments on your channel - thank you!
Now that you've done Home Free's version of Amazing Grace you need to do Pentatonix's. One of my absolute favorites.

🎼🎼🦋🦋🦋 thank you Sir Hairless for bringing some beautiful harmonies into my day. I know that it is expected with Home Free , and with Peter , that the harmonies will astound , and it does. They reach further than most singers. You heard so many intricate chords as it got more and more filthy. Great reaction Sir. I am anticipating your discovery of - "Go Rest High Upon That Mountain" .. by Home Free. It is stellar , as is your understanding of music and song structure. This was refreshing today. 🦋🦋🦋🎼🎼
With this version, an old song is fresh again. We feel the singers' emotions are just happening. It's Rob and Tim and Peter who carry the song for me. I'd like to hear how you respond to HF's "Winter Song.
The story behind the English author is what inspires us all!! Truly amazing!!
Thanks for your analysis. My favorite part in this song besides the great harmonies is Tim's bass. He starts singing so low in his solo & then slides up into a beautiful tenor voice. No one does that better. All Peter's collaborations with Home Free & his duets with Tim are awesome!
LOVE when the Home Free guys collaborate with Peter Hollens--pure genius! This song definitely makes me emotional--this is my very favorite version of all the many, many I have heard over the years 😍 Besides the unbelievable harmonies--and calming backdrops--getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is a real treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #PeterHollens #AdamRuppSinging
I really love ths version. Both Peter and Home Free mesh really well with others and it is a very unique and nice arrangement
As for Peter Hollens he does Misty Mountain Cold featuring Tim Foust a delight for your ears and many layers of harmony. Love it!

Have you done Austin's "Bring Him Home"? I think Peter and Tim sang together before Tim joined HomeFree. And Austin knew Peter from his cruise ship performing days. Peter was on The Sing Off, in the group On the Rocks. That was the same season as Chance was on the show with Street Corner Symphony.😮

Love Peter and Home Free/Home Free member collaborations! This one definitely is beautiful! Such harmonious voices blended perfectly together! Love your “juicy” and “filthy” terms usage! Lol Home Free recently released a new video with Don McLean and the re-make of Don’s original from the early 70’s, “Vincent”. It’s gorgeously recorded! I hope you’ll react to it!
It’s curious that my mind has always connected ‘Amazing grace’ to USA cultural traditions as well :) This arrangement performed by Peter Hollens & Home Free offers some really good filth, which I could better notice and appreciate even more thanks to your in-dept discussion - obrigada, Sir!
So gorgeous. Peter and Home Free have one more collab - Nineteen You and Me. They actually have two slightly different arrangements - one on Peter's channel and one on Home Free's. Totally different vibes in the videos. Would love to see you do a comparison between them.
I found Peter Hollens through Home Free and was immediately impressed. He does so many different types of things. He has a wonderful album of duets with Tim Foust of Home Free full of amazing, creative, pure music. I strongly suggest it. 😊
I'll join those who are recommending PTX's Amazing Grace next. Now that you've officially made the transition to post-Avi, I'm anxiously waiting for many of their newer songs, especially Amazing Grace, Sound of Silence, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Kiss from a Rose, and, most especially, O, Holy Night (the new version from December 2023). There are at least a couple hundred more PTX songs, both pre-Matt and post-Avi, that are well worth your time and talented analysis. I often find myself wishing you'd fit the rest of your reactions around 7-day-a-week PTX reactions! You're become my favorite reactor/analyst, although you'd be neck and neck with Roberto delli Carri if he had continued after his first three reactions. I think you'd enjoy them, although you'd only be able to watch Hallelujah until you catch up a bit...at least, I THINK you reacted to Hallelujah and just couldn't get it up past the copyright demons! If not, that should definitely be on your list! Roberto's other two PTX reactions are Sound of Silence and Amazing Grace.
Peter and Tim worked together in an a cappella group years ago. I think it was “Ball in the House”
@SirHairless
Ай бұрын
wow, that's cool!
One of the best Austin-Tim vehicles is their “My Maria” cover. It’s fairly close to the Brooks and Dunn cover of B.W. Stevenson’s 1973 original. It’s with frequent collaborator Chris Chatham as the third voice and on guitar, Sebastian Douyon on keys and Chris Marion on bass.
Wanted to add my voice to the suggestion of reviewing Home Free's Brothers in Arms. I listen to it back to back with their "Brothers." The videos are so different, but the sentiments so aligned.
You should react to Peter and Tim singing "And So It Goes" from their album "Beautiful Duets". It is one of my favorites, along with "Blackbird" and "Greensleevs," but I love the whole album.
Can never go wrong with Peter and Home Free. Would love to see you react to Peter's version of I See Fire, it's one of my favourite covers of his!
Sir Hairless, you really need to check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust "Misty Mountains" The layering and cord changes are endless, with a fair bit of parallels thrown in for period effect.
I think the high notes were Adam this time, but you never know with #homefree. I saw an interview where Austin said that if you hear high harmonies above him when he's singing a high part, it's Tim.
Love this! Love your analysis even though it goes over my head at times. Such a beautiful song with beautiful voices and those harmonies are exquisite. Good one SH! 😍😃
When I saw this reaction was 20 minutes, I knew it was going to be GOOD, and it did not disappoint! I hadn't heard of Home Free or Peter Hollens until I came across your channel, and now I find myself going to their songs when I want to rewatch your videos. Thank you!

Happy to hear you've found some great new artists through the channel!
You have had the chance to react to Peter Hollens with others. Would love to see you react to Peter on his own. It will give you a wonderful opportunity to experience the layering he can do.
Enjoyed your reaction and the breakdown/analysis. This really is a beautiful rendition f Amazing Grace. The harmonies can't be beaten. That said, I'm 60 years old, so I've heard many, many renditions of this song, and my absolute favorite rendition of Amazing Grace is Dan Vasc's. Perhaps you'll review that one at some point.
If you enjoyed that, you should really listen to, and react to Home Free's rendition of, What Child Is This! I think it's the only time when Chris Rupp joins the group, after Adam Chance became part of the vocal band! The harmonies are disgustingly delicious, of this classic carol! Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge!
At 10:46 when Peter starts the second part of the verse, I love that the harmonies are a bit syncopated. Then skip forward to Austin’s solo and it changes key again, making it sound brighter. I love the old hymns and enjoy what you have to say to further my music enjoyment. Thanks Sir, once again, for your enlightenment. 🎶 Cyd
Lovley song nearly the onley Version i listen for many years now.
High falsetto with no beatbox is usually Adam Rupp.
I do find this "sound" and arrangement to be the most satisfying and pleasant ever (for this hymn). Have heard and seen "this" so many ways, many good --- This one tops all, it's so good! So many possibilities it just blows my mind! Add in Adam along with Peter and you've got most all possibilities imaginable (outside the Bass Gang!). Thank you once again ... much appreciated. Be Safe
Absolutely beautiful rendition. ❤ Great reaction
Great reaction as always and as said in other comment would love to see you react to Bothers in arms another song where there’s no beat boxing. All vocal and done so well.
Hi friend. You said that you never sang “Amazing Grace.” Beautiful song, penned by one of your countrymen. John Newton ( 1725- 1807). He has an incredible histor ( you should read it, when you can). The song will definitely take on a deeper meaning for you. These gentlemen did a magnificent work, but somehow, knowing the history makes the song iconic and DEEPLY MEANINGFUL! 💗🇺🇸
Peter Hollens is one of my a cappella favorites. He was my introduction to Tim Foust. My favorite Peter Hollens cover is his solo of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” I would deeply appreciate your expertise regarding the section of his pure vocalized notes. Of course my favorite a cappella singer - Tomi P (who’s too obscure for your attention) also has an amazing cover of this song

I really like your reactions and analysis to Home Free (as a group or their solo projects). I always learn something new and you catch things at the first go I ususally need to listen several times to before I notice them. Here are my recommendations for future reaction videos: Home Free: - Brothers in Arms - Unchained Melody - Brothers - In The Blood - Listen To The Music - American Pie featuring Don McLean - Honey I'm Good - Between A Rock and A Heartache - Love Train - One Man Band - Blue Ain't Your Color Peter Hollens and Tim Foust (they did a full album together by now): - Greensleeves - Blackbid - You've Got A Friend - Misty Mountains Tim Foust solo, all a capella album: - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay - Since I Don't Have You - In My Room - Why Do Fools Fall in Love - Come Go with Me The Hound and The Fox featuring Tim Foust: - We Three Kings The Hound and The Fox featuring Adam Chance: - Wayfaring Strangers Peter Hollens and Adam Chance: - Country Roads, Take Me Home Austin Brown and Tim Foust (with some friends). - My Maria Those (and many, many more) are all amazing.

Yeah, I think it's Adam, too. It doesn't sound like Austin to me, and Adam has the second-highest upper range in Home Free, between Austin and Rob. But I'm not sure what Austin's doing at that point. If this were a newer song, there might be part breakdowns available to the Patreon folks, but I think it's too old, and also I think Peter's rather than HF's.

Another EXCELLENT reaction and analysis, Sir. 😀 Thank you very much. I have loved this version ever since Peter and Home Free posted it (I was a patron for both, back then, and still am, for Peter). You did a great job of explaining what they did. I'm very glad that Peter posted back to you. He's such a great guy, as well as being a SUPER musical artist. Again...thanks for this reaction.
OK you know I am not that fond of Home Free, but I am super keen of Peter Hollens. I gotta be honest. I loved this one. I liked this one and even though I liked Peter over everything else, I actually loved what HF did. This just works for me, I don't know why. I am glad I gave it a chance, I was debating myself on this haha. As always incredible job from you, with your catching every single detail there is... Such a sharp hearing. By the way Peter Hollens has a crazy range, he can sing way higher than you have heard and he can go pretty low. Loveeeeee, Lupe.-

This is my favorite version of this song. Thank you for a great breakdown.
Loved this. Thanks, Sir. We use this tune here for funerals and church. It makes sense as it's about faith, no? They use it a lot in funerals for service personnel, like firefighters and police, using the bagpipes. It is very mournful. You did Dan Vasc, and his biggest song so far was a version of this. He got the idea singing it at his father's funeral. It's so strange to think you haven't grown up hearing it, or country... or western... or gospel. Not bad, just fascinating to get that take. You should love Misty Mountains, but if you do it, watch the last note and the camera reaction to it. Home Free and Peter are such a delicious mix.
I love this arrangement of Amazing Grace. I am surprised that the song isn't sung more in Britain since John Newton was English. Pentatonix also has a version of this song. It is the modern version with "my chains are gone" as a part of the hymn.

Interesting history in this song. Englishman John Newton had been a slaver but during a violent storm where several crew were washed overboard he had a spiritual awakening in 1779. It was chosen by American Baptist and Methodist ministers to use in their evangelical activities and set to music of "New Britain" in 1835. My childhood church did not use the song so I first discovered it in movies.
I personally consider Peter a 6th member lol

Yes! Never too old to start something new 🎹🎶 As long as you stick with it, a little bit every day, you'll see great progress 💪🏽
It amuses me that you consider this an American hymn, because the lyrics were written by an English priest of the Anglican church. They have been sung to a number of different melodies, although this one became the standard in the late 1960's. I was confirmed in 1973, and can remember being told that the melody and lyrics were separate numbers in the hymnal.

@@SirHairless I think that neither Roman Catholic nor Church of England worship has much room for this kind of hymn, and it is no longer commonplace for religious songs to be sung outside of worship. We Americans tend to be more relaxed about such things.
