Your watch reviews are so on point as always. Many thanks for another great review.
Thanks for the video! Glad to see more competitions for Garmin/Coros.
been really waiting for this, I think I've just saved myself 500 bucks as was going to upgrade my Felix 5 to an epix . Good review.
Love you’re reviews bro. Love your humor integration lol. Hope you and your family had a merry Christmas.
Video from you is excellent 👍,my T Rex 2 is amazing, Falcon coming tomorrow for serious exercise use, thanks again for your time and videos, Thanks Steve
Wow, you're fast! Just the other day, I stumbled over the watch on the Amazfit website and was quite surprised (dodged the pun!) by the feature set they provide here combined with the serious build quality. HR is an important detail, though, if this is hardware-related, it might be an essential downside since many of the advanced metrics hinge on that one. Anyways, stupendous quality and coverage, Dave. You rock!

This is such a helpful review. I really wanted it right up to the part where you reviewed the HR data. I’m interested in the in depth review later. I’m a Coros Vertix owner and am a few years into ownership; ready to look at other options like this. Thanks again!
This is what I was waiting for.. thanks bro
I learned about this watch about 2 days ago on a website. I immediately knew you were going to review it 🤣
unibody titanium and a sapphire crystal screen sounds absolutely amazing to me, as someone with eczema titanium is great on my skin compared to steel or plastic, i wish amazfit also went back to their carbon case like they did on the amazfit stratos
Thanks for your continued reviews on alternatives to Garmin, Apple etc. This model looks like it comes very close to being a very compelling offer compared to watches at double the price.

How? It won't get updates when all westernworld competitors get years of support?
I had an original T rex , loved it but unfortunately about a year after purchase it began turning itself off, I was REALLY interested in this device to replace my Fenix 6 pro sapphire... but the MAIN thing I need from these devices is an accurate HR tracker... So after watching this it's gonna be a pass for me as it stands!. Great comprehensive video, especially as you've not had the device very long! 👍🏻

Really nice competition for the Epix 2 if maps are a non-issue for someone. Here in Germany the price is the same as in the US, but in EUR (499.90) and they promise delivery in 5 days.
I'm glad that you are showing love to a smaller company and not being bias excellent review, but amazfit looks like a wanna be budget friendly brand while being a coros or polar killer in the same time.
In the market of this watch or Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar.....very glad I came across this. Thank you !
Great video. I currently have a Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Sapphire and it has been excellent for almost two years now. It is tough and there isn't a mark on it - it looks brand new. However, I usually upgrade my smartwatches every year or so and so the Fenix has done very well to still be on my wrist. I had an Amazfit Stratos before and really liked it but it wasn't built with titanium and sapphire glass and so the screen did pick up some scratches. The Falcon does look like a really good alternative. I do like the Garmin Epix but it looks just the same as the one I have got and so wouldn't really feel like much had changed. Therefore, the Falcon is really looking like a great deal.

@Chuck I think you need your eyes testing. I have the two, side by side, on my screen and you would be hard pushed to tell them apart. Happy to send you a screenshot. The only difference, in looks, is the Epix has a red top right button. Either way, regardless of how pedantic you want to be, the Epix is not for me because it looks too similar to the Fenix. End of!
@DavidDeLuge

@Chuck you are missing the point. In terms of technological advances, sure, the Epix Gen 2 is superior but that does not change the fact that, aesthetically, it is so similar to a Fenix that it does not appeal to me. Try it yourself, get two browser windows side-by-side, put a Garmin Epix Gen 2 in one and a Fenix 7 in the other and from a case and bezel perspective, they are virtually identical; certainly in the UK anyway. They both look too similar to the Fenix 6 Sapphire I already had too and so it was time for a change and I have to say the Zepp OS is just as intuitive as the Garmin one and the Falcon looks fantastic.

Hi Dave!!! - Nice video just noticed how you manage to reply pretty much all comments. Always on the positive side. Now in regards the Amazfit Vienna aka Falcon looks very powerful, premium materials and guess Amazfit has it's reputation on sport wereables watches. I would like to see the watch in action. See what is capable of measuring, accuracy and capabilities. The specs are good so the only question is how reliable the watch is in diferent circumstances. Also, you are the first - and only - youtube sports person that has posted a video of this watch in action. Some just commented the specifications but always highligghting the price as main detractor. So good for you. Not everybody likes Amazfit and rather show the new Garmin, Polar or Samsung. Good for you. keep it up. Cheers from Mexico.

Still rocking the T-Rex2 and loving it. The price surprised me a bit, I was expecting it to be a bit cheaper because that’s kind of what amazfit is known for. Surprisingly the T-Rex2 has been spot on accurate with my Garmin and Suunto on my runs and trail runs up and into the Utah mountains here. HR, don’t really care about enough to compare so 🤷🏻♂️.

I bought a almost trashed Garmin Fenix 5x for 150 usd and liked a lot, but batterytime was not as good as the Amazfit. Sold it for 160 USD, so more than I paid and bought a used Garmin Fenix 6 Pro for 190 usd. They still update the 6 Pro and I have maps wherever I cargobike or run barefoot. With a puls belt the HR shows more accurate on my dedicated activities.
@cooloutac

@@8stringwrshpleader you would buy it over the 955? Really? For the titanium and sapphire I guess? I guess if an avid hiker and biker worried about smashing it up its a nice peace of mind. but FYI I scratched the sapphire on my fenix 6x. Might be the coating but you can see it in the sunlight and I end up putting a screen protector on it anyways. So sapphire is all hype to me now. lol I do think the fenix is a much more durable then the forerunner series though.
Great initial review! Very informative. I still believe Garmin is in a different league, but Amazfit may be a cause for concern for Coros as some concerns feature sets seem comparable at a better price point. Additionally, Amazfit has made some improvements over Garmin in smartwatch features, particularly notifications as you can specifically set which apps will notify the watch (unlike Garmin).
@carl_weatherzzz7386
Жыл бұрын
Huh? You can absolutely pick what apps notify your Garmin device by making the selections in Garmin Connect.
@splatmatt
Жыл бұрын
@@carl_weatherzzz7386 Actually yes, I can define a custom focus mode on my iPhone. On android I can also define custom notifications as well. But in the connect app you cannot define a single app to notify or not. Plus Garmin zooms closer in on the route which is useful if you are following a route and you approach a fork in the trail. Garmin is also faster orienting to your travel direction when following a route. Not only does Garmin have its own route creation app (Garmin Explore) it also utilizes many third party map apps. Finally, I can get a Garmin 6 pro solar for $100 less new or for $100 more a Fenix 7 both which deliver routable maps directly on the watch.

I love my Amazfit GTS mini 2 for local runs, tracking and everyday life since it's quite cheap, out there I wouldn't exchange it for my Suunto 7 tho.
The ability to pair with an external HR Chest Strap has been much needed. I've had all three versions of the T-Rex and none of them are even close to accurate in a mountain biking scenario. I doubt the HR sensor on the Falcon is any better this time around. Not worth the upcharge for me however just to get the external pairing feature. I have reverted to using my chest strap with a basic HR monitoring watch for definite accuracy. I've given up on the T Rex, and Amazfit for accurate HR tracking.

I love the tough, durable design. It's a very MANLY watch that almost screams in a big strong Man voice to it's competition... "Hey there little fella, check out these guns.. Oh yeah...I'm a BIG BOY, ain't I and don't you know it!" I LOVE it and thinking of an upgrade from my Trex Pro. The style is worth the dollars alone, but the build quality and super bright OLED display is the icing on the cake. Pity I ain't a harcore workout kind of guy, wish it had some other smartwatch features built in though such as Google Pay / voice assistant, Spotify Off-line, etc. I'd jump at this if it were running Wear OS for it's software. BTW.. Fantastic review, very informative and appreciated 👏
Great review, The Falcon retails for $925 here in Australia.
Garmin urgently needs serious competition, so it's really disappointing that no maps are available. Even my Fenix 1 (10 years ago) had the inofficial option to install simplified OSM-maps, which was very helpful for breadcrumb navigation. Nevertheless great review!👍👍👍👍

ya this thing doesn't compete at all with the fenix 6 sapphire sold on amazon for the same price. Kind of a crazy move by amazfit. I use my garmin as a bike computer on my handlebars with my garmin varia radar and chest strap and route with maps all the time.
The part where your said the calendar doesn't work with Google (or whatever) is incorrect. You can link it and the watch will sync 30 days worth of calendar events.
Its nice, perhaps a bit big for me. But I kinda like the simplicity of Coros.
Once again great review, did you make a review for the Amazfit GTR 4? How the heart rate compare from the Falcon vs the GTR 4 it seems that the hearth rate of the Falcon seems similar to GTR 3 pro although the GTR 4 supposedly have a 30 % better heart rate.
Nice outstanding watch and your review
I have had 3 Amazfits. Stiil have two. All have deal breaking levels of inaccuracy in most metrics (apart from the step counter - for some reason Zepp nails steps.)
Thanks for the review. The heart rate issue you mention, I assume that if you connect a band strip to the watch you can use that input and have a precise reading with that right? I was preparing myself to spend the money on a garmin fenix 7, but this price sounds a lot more reasonable. But like you, I'm also concerned that a new HW version will be released soon , and send this one to waste.
Wow you are talking fast😂 and yet if you didn't this would have been a very long video. I enjoyed it!
Your final thoughts pretty much nailed the major concerns. Amazfit is renowned for not supporting their products for a long period of time in terms of firmware updates. And by long I mean anything over a year. I've owned a Bip, Bip S, Pace, Stratos and Stratos 3. Apart from the OG Bip, all had bugs that were reported. Amazfit did nothing. Very Nice review. Is Quickfit band compatible with falcon?
So indeed the watch does not have spotify and you can only upload mp3 files to play on its own, however if you have your phone on you, you can connect your buds to the phone, play music from the service of your choice and use the watch sorta as a remote control, to switch between tracks, adjust the volume and so on, which is still great, because you do not need to always take your phone out of your pocket or bag or wherever you are carrying it

Kudos for the great review, as usual; unbiased and really useful ! This watch is really nice, looks amazingly built and full of features enough to cover the majority of our (average Joes') users' needs. But... The lack of a Zepp web portal, which compels you to use the phone app only, no Ant+ connectivity and (personally) being stuck in a Garmin environment for many years, prevents me to switch; to be honest, Coros offers IMHO more comparable - and compatible - features at a lesser price than outrageously high Garmin's.
I have been struggling with this. Started out with Samsung gear band and watch. Lack of battery life got me searching and got Fenix 5x saffire. That was a nice watch, but as it got older, it just sort of stopped being accurate. I have the Amazefit TRex 2 and it's spot on for what I need I just don't love it and not sure why. I've been bouncing back and forth between Fenix 7x and even the Marc. At the end of the day, though, I'm 65 and work out on bike and/or rowing for an hour a day. My needs are minimal and the reality is that the technology will be upgraded in a year filled with more stuff I don't need.I ordered Falcon today with hopes this will be the last one I need till they put something on a wheelchair. It looks good, and so far, the Zep app with upload to Strava should do it.
Wow, this took me by surprise to be honest. Good battery and seems that it covers more than just the basics, and as long as it can be paired with external sensors, it's not that terrible that the wrist HRM is not that good. The only question remaining is how good or accurate the metrics are with a good external HRM doing the right job, because for the price and feature set it enters a market to compete with watches like the Suunto 9 Peak and the Polar Grit X pro, which you can get slightly more expensive or slightly cheaper respectively, and it would come down on the preference of display and design if the metrics are good enough, in other case I think the market for this watch would be quite limited.

I like it.
When you open the barometer setting i was thinking you hold an epix 2 for a moment 🤣they copy even the color of the graph. Sad that not supporting ant+. But for the bucks is excellent.
Hey Dave, thanks for the video. It's great that you are reviewing Amazfit watches as well as Tickwatches, not only the mainstream sports watches. I think that the Falcon is clearly no real competition to Epix 2. The set of software features of Amazfit watches doesn't evolve that much unfortunately. As a former Amazfit Pace user (100 dollar watch back in 2019) I recognize the breadcrumb navigation of the Falcon far too well. The Falcon's price is in the Forerunner 955 territory which sounds really out of its place to me.
I was looking at this watch on Amazon here in the UK and it's nice to £564.03
very solid review. Unfortunately, I still don't know if this watch will be ok for running?
Shame about the lack of onbord mapping.... Its way behind a Garmin Epix, Fenix, Tactix, Quantx, Enduro 2.... Its even behind a Fenix 5x from 2018 in mapping capability... In fact every other make in the world are behind Garmin in mapping unfortunately..... As a hiker I'd love some competition between brands but there isn't any in this department....there's just Garmin doing inbuilt mapping of the world with the ability to download any OSM maps directly to a watch, transparent contour and trails overlays to overlay on other maps... Its a shame garmin took BirdsEye Satalite imagery away... but there you go. Thanks for a great informative review as always, muck appreciated All the best 👍
Thanks for a great video. Are you going to review the suunto 9 peak pro?

Yep! Coming soon!
Good Video 👍
From my experience with Amazfit T-Rex Pro in the last 1-2 years (>100 use), the HR sensor is sensitive to sweat. On average, every 20 workouts would encounter 1 times HR reading inaccuracy, exactly the same problem in this video (HR went below 100 even I was pushing for Zone 4-5 training). When this happens, unstrap the watch and wipe both hand surface and HR sensor surface dry. Same problem also seen on Garmin watch.

Hmmm. Than how you explain swimming and tracking the heartrate.?..its water all over the watch and the sensor...so its useless in the water according to this conclusion

@@gruniste not necessarily.. sweat isn't just water. It's also more oily and slippery than water..but honestly no optical HRM on any watch will be as good as an ECG chest strap When exercising and in colder conditions where blood circulation is affected or if you have a circulation problem

I get the same issue, sometimes, with my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Sapphire. It's not a big deal, to me anyway. I am really impressed by the Falcon.
Oh just want to note. It does have a speaker. It sounds for alarms or during workouts.

It beeps but it doesn't play music or allow for phone calls.

@@ChaseTheSummit no... And seems fairly inconsistent with sound. Like this morning was the first time the alarm.didnt just vibrate.
No Spotify is a no selling point for me. Thanks for the review
I love it and I will buy it when available. People complain that there are features it doesn´t have, I collected many years Breitling, Omega etc. And this is the first watch which can compare in built quality with these "real" watches (only Marq 2 from Garmin too, but 2000 Euros up). I see it more like a Breitling Endurance or TAG Heuers with benefits. The money you loose with these watches even when you leave the shop after buying is a few times the price for a Falcon and so the 300 more for sapphire and titanium body to T-Rex 2 is not a special offer, but for me worth the premium feeling. And yes, perhaps after 2 or 3 years the technology is outdated, but with all the features it can be used many years more (and with this durability to charge only all 2 weeks or longer it will last for 10 years) as all Breitlings together (a stop watch, alarm, calendar etc. will always work). I am not a sportsman so the sensors may be better at Garmin, but I prefer high class materials (yes, even Samsung and Huawei are maybe well done, but a difference to this "real watch" quality feeling). And if you compare with Coros, this has no Amoled, only 280x280 resolution and even still bigger than the Falcon. And Garmin is the first comparable watch the Epix (Amoled) and it costs 1000 Euros. And even the same size (1,28 to 1,30 is no difference like 1,39 to T-Rex 2). I am so happy with my T-Rex 2 now with all the features and will upgrade to the Falcon only because of the high quality built.
Not released in Australia yet, but pricing will be $800, which is the same price as the galaxy watch 5 pro. I think $800AUD is around that $500USD
sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) is essential
Great review! Assuming Garmin's quickfit bands are interchangeable on this one? It's 22mm right?

Oh and it is the previous generation HR sensor (from gtr3) right?

@@fitgearhunter Sure does look the same...they really need to beef that thing up. The Garmin and Apple watches have way more than the one tiny sensor to be accurate.

@@fitdude Yes from the spec sheet they included the damn older sensor (which was less accurate) on the new flagship model! Why O Why. Great looking watch otherwise.
Love your reviews and understand that a lot of hard work and time is involved, but I was wondering if a quick update on any firmware is possible. I'm interested in this watch, but can't find anything about any improvements from firmware, namely gps accuracy. Hope you can help.
Being able to connect to external hrms is good, because I never use the hr sensor on my watch. topo map is not an issue for me, I don't think I will need that. I am a road runner in my neighborhood, I like to put on my shoes and run.

All the above being said, I will still stick to my Garmin for the ecosystem.
This device reminds me Pol/ar Grit X Pro with its design and pricetag. However not close to be Precision Prime. :)
i wish they included a depth meter sensor. I had 15 years ago a SUONTO CORE that had depth meter and realy loved the feature of basic mesurments for snorkeling. Cant understand why is so dificult for manufactures to include it.
Curieusement, pour cette montre haut de gamme, Amazfit a choisi le capteur biotracker 3.0 ppg qui est plus ancient que biotracker 4.0 de Amazfit GTR 4.
How is the information regarding SP02 blood oxygen? What time durations can you set it to and how does it monitor during sleep? Is there a graph that can be reviewed or exported?
Comparing with the Ultra, do you think is it a good option if you’re looking for a rounded watch? Or Garmin Epix 2 stills better ?
Waiting for the GTR4 video, that's what I can afford even though the falcon is what I want. 😬
Looks awesome. How about the barometer accuracy?

Personally, I would not rely on Amazfit Barometer as it’s quite basic. The implementation is ok but lack refining big time. The graph tend to not give a clear sense of a rising or dropping barometer. Basically, the graph is not sensitive enough. Even if there was a huge drop in pressure the graph still looks rather flat. Also this barometer is always affected by altitude. There is no auto Cal. Garmin and Suunto has the best Baro/Alt implementation. Amazfit has a long way to catch up here
