Amazfit Balance review: A $220 smartwatch that challenges Apple and Samsung

Ғылым және технология

You may think that you need to spend $300, $500, or even $1,000 for a capable fitness-focused smartwatch, but there are compelling options available at more affordable prices.
While I was looking for something new late last year, I saw the new Amazfit Balance (amzn.to/4bqTGKU) running the latest Zepp OS 3.0 and also available in Special Edition colors. I purchased the Woodland version for just $230 and it even came with a free fabric band in addition to the brown silicone one.
Check out my full written review that has more details on the Amazfit Balance over at ZDNET, www.zdnet.com/article/why-i-w...

    I'm also a smartwatch fan and bought the T-REX 2 a while back. It's a good watch but I'm spoiled enough on Samsung's great watches that I usually just deal with the charging daily.

    Thanks for ur review. Could u tell me the performance of the watch after the last update? Did u notice something better?

    I didn't notice much of a difference with the update, but then again I never had an issue with the performance before the update either. Amazfit does a solid job of updating its watches and I'll soon be testing out another Amazfit watch and something else exciting from Amazfit.

    If you use this Watch for strength training, does the rep counts, and auto detection accurate than Garmin?because I know Garmin is not very accurate in this regard, and compare this to the new Garmin 165 which one do u think it’s better for gym use ?

    I primarily run, bike, indoor row, and perform bodyweight exercises so I never tested out strength training and reps. Maybe I'll grab my dumbbells and see if it counts the reps accurately. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I need to get away from Garmin. I retired my 2020 Venu and started looking at current options. Rabbit hole after rabbit hole and I'm nearing $1200 for an Epix Pro 51mm. No way in my right mind should I ever spend so much on a watch. I just need accurate activity tracking, GPS, LED or AMOLED screen, MCard or Google Pay (Garmin Pay sucks), and ideally a flashlight (Garmin great for this, but probably have to suffice with LED screen flashlight).

    I heard the vo2 max on this watch is not very accurate?

  • @palmsolo

    @palmsolo

    2 ай бұрын

    That's a good point and I should have called that out. It is 8 to 9 points LOWER than what Apple Health and Garmin Connect show for my VO2 Max figures. Those other two are within just 1 point of each other and while they are also indicators and likely not absolute values, seeing those two that close clearly means this watch is underestimating VO2 Max by a LOT!

    What are the golf metrics?

  • @palmsolo

    @palmsolo

    Ай бұрын

    The golf activity is labeled Golf Swing so it is focused on tracking metrics associated just with your club swing. There are no courses to download and the watch will not track your round of golf. However, it can be useful for the driving range as it provides the number of swings you take, heart rate, hand speed, tempo, and plane angle. These are actually metrics we rarely see on other watches so for the right user this can be beneficial.

    can you add pictures from your phone?

  • @palmsolo

    Are you asking about using your own photos as the background for a watch face? If so, yes, you can do it. Go to your watch in the devices list, tap on watch faces, swipe down to the Custom Background category and select any of them. Once this is open, tap on Change Background and then select an image from your phone to serve as the watch face background. I cannot find a gallery app in the Zepp App Store, but there may be a beta of an app that you can try via a manual process, xdaforums.com/t/amazfit-gallery-app.3564353/
