You would think they would know a little something about colonization? Lol. How embarrassing to make videos reacting to "Indian" content without even taking the time to learn about the country/doing some research. Christianity is India's third largest religion after Hinduism and Islam. I don't know how many times I can keep hearing ignorant white people say "I didn't know there were christians in India" (or things along those lines).

Lot of Christians in India do have a white wedding!! I guess you did not get the Hindu, Muslim, Christian leads.. the masalaness of the song is that the main characters are singing their own name throughout the song, but nobody recognizes them... greatness of manmohan Desai the director - the entertainment value comes first before logic. This Same movie has a scene of 3 sons unknowingly giving blood to mom at the same time...3 blood tubes going to same bottle and then to mom... It was supposed to be a hallmark masala scene of the time. “Think of masala as guilty pleasure. Usually with some cringe involved... popcorn movie”

I was like didn't you guys watch PK. Specially Rick who claims to love PK. The white wedding dress scene in PK was quite significant in the context of the movie.

One of my favs of all time for sure. This film is so enjoyable.

Amar Akbar Anthony - "The Masala Film of Masala Films". In a way I think subconsciously this film went on to shape the Secularism definition in Indian people's mind for a long time.

So cool to see you guys react to this! My father (Shailendra Singh) was the voice for Rishi Kapoor (Akbar) in this, as for many many of his other songs including his debut Bobby (debut for them both, selected by Raj Kapoor himself for his sons first film), which I know you've reacted to as well!

The Red dress you’re talking about Rick, usually brides of Hindu, Sikh, and some other religions (not necessarily but mostly) wear red dress on wedding. The bride in this song is Christian, hence the white dress.

@@S61115 not all, we are Hindus, we use yagna in our weddings and follow all the vedic tradition but red is not necessarily use in our weddings, we use mostly golden or silver or white "sador-mekhela"

I hoped you'd recognize Shabana Azmi, but you've only seen her once and she's much younger in this.. The lady in pink is the woman playing Naseeruddin Shah's wife in Masoom.

There are many Christians and Catholics in India, including me and my family, before I moved to the States . My wife wore a traditional white gown as well, which is very common for many Christian brides to wear, especially around the western and Northern parts of the Country. Amitabh impersonates a Catholic priest in the song. I grew up with constant references to the song My name is Anthony Gonsalves, due to the same name, though I was named after St. Anthony who is widely revered in India :-)

Amar is a Hindu, Akbar is a Muslim and Anthony is a Christian..all brothers separated as children. Kids were raised by families of different religious backgrounds. The bride wore white because she's Christian.

You might wholly Not enjoy Chupke chupke as it relies a lot on wordy, language based humour. Which might not be easy to sub, but otherwise it is a fabulous sit com. Also watch a total laugh riot- Bombay to Goa. A road film with an amazing ensemble of characters. Zanjeer which gave him the title of Angry Young Man is also a must watch. They all are masala films and yet classics. You can translate Masala as People pleaser. It has something for everyone. Strong hero, appealing heroine, comedy , songs, larger than life villains. Like every fairy tale our movies show a common mans journey towards being a hero and vanquishing the villains. Enjoy!

So basically Masala is a mix of different genres! If a movie has not a specific genre, but has a mix of a lot of things, especially Action & Comedy, some emotional scenes in between, a bit of romance, that’s the recipe of a Masala film. Not all brides wear red in India, even if you consider just Hindus. In my own family, the brides wear colorful sarees. Many wear white sarees for weddings even in Hindu traditions. Just changes based on each family 😊

If you're must choose between Chupke Chupke and AAA, go for Chupke Chupke. It is far funnier. Some Indian Christians (particularly those that converted during colonial rule) tend to follow Western wedding traditions. Other Christians have adapted them to local traditions like the Syrian Christians in Kerala wear saris for the wedding and you may have noticed in Mary Kom that the bridal couple wore wedding garlands.

If you want to watch Masala movies, this is probably one of the best ones. This was made by Late Manmohan Desai, the ultimate king of Masala movies where you will find every emotion or genre in one single movie.

Not seen the entire video yet, but just the chills from the Sholay tune took my fingers towards the like button.

This movie is hilarious, over the top, story constantly moving along briskly with one event after another. Not the critics' favourite but you won't be disappointed. In India, we call it paisa vasool(getting your money's worth).

How convincing Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna are, trying to do something so inane...No matter how silly the scripts, they put in their best efforts..

There are a lot of Christians here and the colour for the bride’s clothes is white like in the west . Although some were gowns like Anglo Indians and some ppl from the city but others mostly wear a saree .

Masala movie are blend of good ott comedy, melodrama, action , emotions and songs with some logic and some illogical plots in the story. . They are basically the family entertainers.

This film is not only a Bollywood Classic but established Amitabh’s comic side

Also, My boss brought this to my attention more than 10 years ago. There is a dance competition between Vijayanthimala and Padmini. It's very old and classical dancing or semi-classical, of course. You couldn't get better than that. I looked up in the youtube search and it simply says Vijayanthimala Padmini dance.
