Something extremely worth noting is that for some reason, Amakusa Shirou has a hidden bonus to his Extra Attack damage output. This causes him to deal +54% more damage on his extra attack. His massive 7 hit count on his extra attack and the top 10 tier 6.02% NP gain he gets from his extra attack, this means Extra Attack Finesse becomes his most important skill to obtain. At append skill level 10, the extra attack on a buster brave chain would deal 1078% damage and give him 9% NP gauge and 11 crit stars. This means a level 90 Amakusa Shirou can deal 72k damage with his Extra Attack alone with no buffs. The gains on that append skill is cataclysmic.

Amakusa (NP1) with Double Merlin is a somewhat janky immortal comp that I've abused a few times in annoying story fights. I think the last one I remember was Yagyu in Shimosa though. You just keep crit-ing, invul-ing, and NP-ing over and over again. This can slowly beat basically anyone that doesn't have annoying square buffs or scripted bs.

Amakusa gives me a lot of headache at Shimosa coz he wipe my ass many times😤😤😤since I don't had any strong servants back then and I only beat him though 3 Command Spell and 3 SQ 😤😤😤,meaning his a tough bastard that I fought.

I've done the same thing. Amakusa/double Merlin is basically just a never-ending engine as you keep negating all the enemy's buffs while spamming crits and NPs all over the place. There's rarely a time where it doesn't work quite well, and when it doesn't, it's not hard to just swap Amakusa out for some other buster DPS that fits that specific battle better to still make it work. I'm still suprised people say that Merlin's gotten power crept. He's still stupidly strong, just he's a long-term self-perpetuating engine rather than the 3 turn burst damage looper support we see nowadays. Sure engines aren't quite as critical anymore, and not much need for one when you can just win in 3 turns anyways, but that isn't always possible, and the arts stall team archetype has always been around in one form or another.

5:33 I think a possible reason why Guts isn't purged by things that remove defensive buffs is that defensive buffs directly affect/mitigate the damage you take. Like evade/invul directly nulls any damage you would take. Guts doesn't do that.

Yep, that's basically it. Guts is not considered a defensive buff (which reduce damage you take, one way or another), it's a heal that just procs when your HP hits 0. As such it's not purged by something like Odysseus' NP that removes defensive buffs, but it should (I guess? Never actually tested) instead be affected by anything that affects healing.

@@amari7782 That's what he said, Odysseus doesn't remove Guts. Though this very video shows that Santa Karna's not the only one who can remove Guts on NP. If you factor in skills as well, there are a ton of servants who can remove guts via "remove an enemy's buff" effects, from Ivan and Kiara who removes all buffs from all enemies, to Santa Nightingale and Eliabeth who remove the last buff applied to an enemy, to Xochiyaóyotl from LB7 who specifically removes Guts. Though for Guts specifically, there are actually a number of NPs that can "bypass" it, any that have a generic buff purge. Amakusa's unique in doing the buff purge before damage, so it bypasses defensive buffs letting him hit enemies who use evades or invuls. But Guts actually pops after the NP finishes, meaning that any NP that removes buffs after dealing damage will still kill targets with Guts, as the game will check for Guts and trigger it after it's been removed. Medea and Diarmud lancer are 3 star options, but Musashi, loli Wu Zetian, Ibaraki and Melt are all able to do it as well.

Funny enough class modification(like what Sima Yi does) is considered a defensive buff since it affects how much damage you take.

Whenever I think of amakusa I just think of how Janta's EX attack is a mini version of his NP: Twin Arm Little Crunch

Kagekiyo, though hers is ST as we all know, don't recall any other AoE servant that mimics Amakusa's purge one for one.

yeah Amakusa is wonky for regular use, but the dude clutched so many difficult fights and challenge quests for me. Ruler typing makes him good in nearly every match-up and having a star gen + staller is almost always valuable. Glad you also mentioned Merlin, because the team of running Main Attacker + Amakusa + Merlin makes for a really strong opening team.

there comes a time for many developed account that we stop rolling for meta servants, and just go for the servants that we vibe with (even if they're not necessarily waifus/husbandos) I threw a few multis at his banner and he didn't show. but he did come home with the survey tickets. i know with my mind that I should be saving for the LB6 big hitters but this guy called to me and I can't say I'm regretting anything. My Shimousa gang is almost complete with this ✨

Even if you’re wanting someone for that one LB3 fight, Douman is probably a better pick. He does better damage and gets his NP more consistently while keeping himself alive in a way that Li’s students have a harder time dealing with.

The additional problem with Amasuka is one that goes unstated but greatly implied: usually when you want buff purge, it's either against a singular enemy 8/10, or they got box buffs that is the designers way of telling you that you're not cheesing them. For the later you can only eat dirt, but for the former the likes of Abigail and Tiara exist if you need pre-empt Class Agnostic NP Buff purge. Heck, Melt is still a good anti-buff unit on account of her ridiculous Crit game solo or with a Summer BB in tow post NPs. And if you're reliant on Skills for buff purge you can always stick that sucker in a Tamamo/Castoria comp to have ready access to it whle literally never risking death short of enemy buff purge. So Amasuka just....doesn't have much of a place in the grand scheme of FGO now, which sucks a massive one.

At this point in the game, Amakusa is for use in Challenge Quests when you don't have more ideal options. His Ruler classing combined with his consistent support, crit chance down and buff clearing makes most bosses have to fight on even ground they'd really rather not. However, he'll never be the best solution for any given fight. He might demonstrate value in versatility of how many he can clear, though. But that was true of a game not adjusted for Castoria.

Those servants gives me headache during those fight😒😒😒😒,and now Beast Koyanskaya at LostBelt5 is another shits I need to beat after Demeter😤😤😤😤

... You know now that you mentioned how his cooldown is a turn shy to work with double K.Light it's almost if they did it on purpose to avoid it. They were really careful with that early kit but with the box buffs they could make fights he can't cheese. You did give him a fair shake here of how to use him if you got him or at least if anyone is struggling with that LB3 mob where to borrow him.

Wanted to fish for some event ce and he popped up on the 4th single. He's easy to raise and can be useful as a sorta buster supportive attacker for casual brawling so he's plenty useable. Also Heaven's Feel Kiddo!

Mistake should roll for amakusa (Geronimo) and grail to 100

My thoughts exactly. A gripe I have lately is that every aoe servant gets shoved into the farmer role with meta supports and is called bad if they can't 3 turn it easily. I miss seeing wacky teams comps that aren't super efficient but are fun to make work and watch.

@@soulwarrior_ex1140 Preach it fam. That's why now in my comfy veteran status I make it a point to my QP and ember teams as ridiculous as possible. At one point I was farming both with Voyager and Guifei as the dps, now it's Voyager and BB Summer lol

If u squint, Amakusa and base Abby look kinda similar. Both have preemptive buff purge on np, a battery with multi turn charge, and a stun.

just a reminder that summer wu's NP can turn any enemy into undead as well as her own damage buff against them. its almost useless information, but someone out there might want to see how far it can go

He has his uses in challenge quests and the like. Granted the dude won't leave me alone. If he shares a banner with any other servant, he tends to stroll up to me laughing. The GSSR banners I have to avoid him as well. Picked a banner where he was the ONLY unit I didn't want and guess what.

I am main Amakusa since he was the first SSR I've got... and omfg he has saved my life so many times at so many quests, I mostly use him in challenge quests, as long as you pair him with a healing support and a damage support he es freaking awesome... His main role is not doing damage tho, but to spam his np like a freak, which reduces enemies damage due to "Critical Strenght Down"... Also he can solo almost all fights at Heian-Kyo kinda easily

I feel like he’s a decent, non-meta pick for early game content. His toolkit is pretty decent for some challenge quests. He has some nice utility that could be useful if you’re not looking to minturn/loop things. Idk why you would wanna do that but 🤷🏾‍♂️

I rolled NP2 Amakusa from different GSSR's trying to get Abigail and Dantes copies, so imo he's one of those characters you trip over on a GSSR but never go out of your way for.

Could just be because I'm biased and made him Level 100, but I personally consider him one of the toughest cookies in the Ruler Class. He has great utility with NP Gain and Star Regen, and can really slam into enemies if you let him. Then again, I'm weird and I like using a shit ton of taunt walls to make my fights easier. And in bigger group filled fights, his Ruler classing helps him push through

I don't even understand what long and short range count as in this game. Arcade I'd get, but not this turn based, static positioning system. Unless it has to do with position on the field? Which enemy is targeted?

@@SofosProject The position of the character's in this game is not actually static, a lot of servants, mainly the high rarity ones, have different animations depending of the sequence of the cards used, changing according to where the character is at the start of the attack, the jank with Amakusa has to do with this, where the hitcounts changed if he started the extra attack right next to the enemy or in the distance, it's pretty stupid and it has never happened since then.

IIRC amakusa can loop with double Oberon + 50% battery support

I got Shirou after a single whale pack, it probably wasn’t worth it. With the Odysseus banner that makes it 5 whale packs for Chaldea boys this year and with last years 5 packs that’s an embarrassing amount wasted on Chaldea boys primarily on Odysseus my favorite Greek hero of all time. I got him at least, although I’ll be skipping banners till crane and I’ll probably be skipping a lot of IRL things too.

Bride was the first servant i used cash on to roll and got, putting me in a false feeling of optimism. Shirou was a second servant I wanted was force myself to use cash on him. Through that banner I got NP3 Astolfo but no Shirou...

Seeing old 5 servants get beaten by the new 5 star makes me think Damm couldn't some servant kits could be improved to compete with the new servants

It's kind of funny how different people are when ranking servants. Myst has him ranked as top tier. I can see both sides of it.

Amakusa: gets an MHX Treatment over the last 5 years and is somewhat decent Jeanne: only 2 Buffs over the last 5 Years and competing with the Best Caster in the game

Its even worse when you look at everything Amakusa got over Jeanne Ruler: Animation update more skill upgrades for each skill to at least be usable More involvement in the story with his 2nd interlude being an absolute banger and also tied to the Lostbelt story Acknowledgement from Sieg that his wish was noble Meanwhile, Jeanne mostly serves as a joke character with her summer version and is largely overshadowed by Jalter. Even Astolfo and Siegfried got the spotlight in Traum.

He needs grails or Np copies to do work, much investment but minimal return. He just sits in my box. If he’s your best option he’s not horrible but otherwise use someone else.

Amakusa's kit is great... if it was chopped up and given to different servants. They aren't things you want on an offensive Ruler Buster Up and Buster Resist Down on a 2B deck and no star absorb. Immobilising a servant on a DPS. His random NP gain buffs with hardly any damage modifiers In a vacuum these are really good buffs. But all slapped on the same servant it's just.. pulling him in a lot of directions, none fit for a DPS Ruler

I'm one of the lucky ones who got him(at least on NP1😅) at only 30 hard sq roll🥰🥰🥰...,I level him up at lvl90 afterwards. My only disappointed part is that I don't got any FOU booster for HP and Attk stunts😒😒😒,not to mention the lack of materials for skills upgrade😒😒😒for him....,

only in VERY rare cases do they actually buff the core fundamentals of a Servant's stats. Iskandar, Squirtoria and Surf Mo all had buffs to their NP Gain stat for example

I think Summer Abigail has her NP remove buffs before damage. But Amakusa is leagues better than her. EDIT: Only defensive buffs for her, so he really is the only one huh? Also, Amakusa wouldn't be in nearly as bad of a situation of unremovable buffs weren't a thing. Give him some supports to help is np spamming or a solo setup that encouraged that, and he could ignore gimmicky fights by purging right through their buffs. DW really pulling that one out of their ass to make things uncheeseable.

Same, I also didn't get my amakusa.

It's a niche, but what an unnecessary and janky niche. 9 times out of 10, defensive buffs spams are being done by single enemies or at least single main enemy spam with trashmobs. There's so little instance where you need to prioritize hitting everyone AND buff purge all of them.

So... you clearly never took him for a ride in some CQ right? Bc hes a absolute beast in stall comps. (But why dont you use a Arts servant for this?) Bc my whole team is Buster or Buster support, and in that front, Amakusa is a Premium servant who can most definitely carry the challenge. So the question you should be making is: Do you have a buster comp? Do i want to win bs cq's? If the answer is "yes", then Amakusa is a must summon. If not, hard pass, you will only use him for bs cq and boss fights, nothing more.
