tbh, just a bad idea for a video game. the game show exists to point and laugh at people for not brushing up on elementary topics, which is not a video game. no one plays video games to point and laugh at themselves. the devs clearly put more effort than most, which is not surprising considering that HandyGames is an actual team who also get to do interesting, unlicensed games too. there are some little touches here and there that most studios working on games like this will not have the time and/or resources to. which doesn't make it more than one of the best in a really bad bunch, but you still do have to respect that they did their best with a game no one really cared about.

“Does the earth rotate clockwise or counterclockwise?“ is an unanswerable question since the earth does not have a top. If it’s clockwise at the North Pole then it’s counterclockwise at the South Pole. They should have asked whether the orbit was prograde (west to east) or not.

This is actually really interesting! Space being three dimensional we actually use the celestial hemispheres as a point of reference to determine which way a planet spins in relation to our solar systems invariable plane. The pole of Earth that points to the northern celestial hemisphere is of course our north pole, thus the Earth spins counterclockwise.
@ReverendLeRoux
Жыл бұрын
When he brought that up I realized the error of the question immediately. I'm assuming we'd be viewing the globe form the top down, though, which means it would rotate counter clockwise.
@sntslilhlpr6601
Жыл бұрын
You guys are way overthinking this. It's child trivia, not philosophy. Asking which orientation the question is asking about is like asking why we call north "north" instead of "south". It's been generally accepted since ancient times that what we consider north is the top of the world. And it makes total sense given that that's where most of the landmass is and also where the vast majority of civilization (and maps) came from. Therefore we consider the arctic the top with the Earth spinning counter-clockwise, a top-down look at our solar system has us traveling counter-clockwise around the Sun, and a top-down look at our galaxy has us traveling counter-clockwise around the center. It's arbitrary, sure, but it is accepted throughout society and that's just one of the things you have to be ok with in Elementary school.
I'm unreasonably mad about that 1/1 fact. You can divide 1 by 1. You get 1. The reason it's not prime is that it only has 1 factor, whereas prime numbers have exactly 2 factors. This "fact" makes it seem like 1 isn't prime because you can't divide 1 by itself, which is false. Doing something that has no effect doesn't mean it didn't happen; it just means it had no effect. I bet Joaquin's math teacher thought they were being clever when they told him that "fact".
NL, with full sincerity, you are my comfort content. Thank you.
