When I first started this channel, one of the first skills I learned was to juggle. I did that in around 3 hours and 44 minutes, which I thought was a pretty good time. In this episode I’ve enlisted someone to learn the same skill to compare times with. That person is my wife, Kim. She’s usually the one behind the camera, this week we swapped roles! Hope you guys enoy!

@@godpinch That's pretty much me atm Ian, still haven't succeeded but am taking about a month and a half. I am autistic so like dyspraxia my fine motor skills aren't the best, it takes a lot for me to learn how to do skills that require very fine motor skills, tying notes, cutting things quickly for dinner, WRITING (oh my god, I share your pain so much there), and of course, juggling. I actually decided to take up juggling to have a daily exercise for my fine motor skills, I know I'll get there eventually.

He's probably better at doing research than his wife. Remember for all that this is a straight comparison he still has more experience simply imitating the internet. I assume he found something along those lines on a website when he was trying to learn it himself.

@@lowkey_Ioki sure, but that was still him learning it. the fact that he stepped in and helped kind of skews the results of the experiment because Kim could've researched by herself the same way Mike did, but Mike didn't have someone to show him in person who could see what he needed to improve on

These are fair criticisms. However, realize the exact time doesn't matter due to the influence of luck, the number of days spent, her comfort in front of the camera, her probable inexperience in learning stuff quickly, knowing she has a time to beat (his), her motivations of doing this versus his reasons, etc. Then factor in how different the average human is. These things are still within a reasonable margin of error. The point of these videos isn't that you can learn how to juggle in 3 hours or 4 hours. It's to show how pure persistence, good training, and self-reflection can make the hardest tasks seem reachable. And also, he probably doesn't want his wife to struggle as much as he did (even though she probably did).

  • @cube2fox

I think one factor could be that many people (both men and women) have a tendency to treat woman a bit like children, i.e. they don't want them to be challenged too heavily, so they often get additional help.

It's really helpful to show the actual depiction of the "learning curve" Strangely enough many people mention it but never show it. The concept of the dip is good to see as then you can appreciate that it's only a temporary state and that with a bit more practice it'll become satisfying again......and maybe even fun ;)

Practicing and improving! -------- Day 2 -------- 3rd hour. My highest time is 5 seconds. The juggle balls i use are socks rolled up together. They are really hard to catch because the are not perfectly round, making it harder.. 3 hours and 30 minutes. Numbers are increasing! -------- Day 4 -------- I can juggle!!

I learned to juggle about two months ago and I remember going through these exact stages!

I'm currently in the dip, been there for 10 years since I half assed tried to learn to juggle. I try every time I can get my hands on 3 correctly sized balls, but one of two things happends, I start trowing them forward so I have to run forward after them, or the balls hit mid air... I should maybe invest a couple hours to learn the rest someday..

Renax the Man That is exactly what happened for me. For a few hours over the course of a few days is how much time it took me. I always kept throwing them forward. But now I can juggle and have gotten a few minutes of continuous juggling! Don’t give up! It’s a very cool thing to show my friends and family.

Love it! Admittedly Kim *could* have the slight edge by having you as a mentor (as oppposed to you having only learned on your own)

Way cool! I was waiting for you two to toss one ball back and forth between you! I especially like the graphical representation of the proverbial Learning Curve. I've always found there's initially great enthusiasm and success (beginner's luck sometimes?) and then it all goes to shat and gets frustrating and THEN (if at all!) more lasting progress seems to start very slowly. So it's all about enduring through the frustration. Or getting professional intervention, mentally or skill-wise! BTW, love the brogue! My mom was born in Hamilton, and could turn it on and off. My grandmom was always on and would say, "I dinnae ken how yew knew I'm Scottish!" I miss them both dearly. Rock on, Mike!
