I'm going this year and I want to improve enough to be the best Latvian puzzler at the event 😊 that would be an awesome title to achieve even though not that many Latvians participate.

Cool video, Emilia! Really interesting. I must say I also had such situations where I had better time doing the puzzle 1st than 2nd time. No idea why that is... It just happens sometimes. The puzzle you were building is tough. I did it once, in pairs. I remember that the pieces has similar texture, so figuring out what goes where was really difficult for me. Even though you didn't beat Alejandro and Kathi, you still had a magnificent time, so well done, Emilia! 😊

Thanks for sharing!! It’s good to hear that I’m not the only one. And yes. I would have not wanted to have this puzzle in my round in WJPC. So tricky. I would have panicked. And it never helps to compete in the same round with the best of the best!

Your time was very good Emilia, miles better than I would ever achieve. I believe there was some suggestion that Alejandro may have a photographic memory which presumably helps him when doing puzzles. He also holds quite a few pieces in his hands as he puzzles.

Thank you! I think photographic memory is still not proven to exist by science. I believe they e.g. had an research on grand masters in chess because they remember crazy amount of scenarios and stuff - but the end result was still that they just had more expertise so to say. It’s true that some people have crazy learning skills but still that doesn’t mean any specific skill, just ability to learn faster with different kinds of strategies. But I think we should let Alejandro comment on this on his own behalf. 😁 I have tried to have many pieces in my hand too but I can usually only do that until halfway and they I just honestly don’t know anything anymore 😂

I'm always faster on the 2nd or 3rd or even 4th time when I do a puzzle but my times are much slower so its "easier" to do them faster. Yor times are already pretty fast so it must be harder to go even faster. Good job anyways those are crazy good times!

That makes sense. I think the faster you get the smaller the differences are. So even tinies things like lighting, mood, even luck (of how the pieces come as a pile) can affect!
