The 250 Cummins NA is not a multi fuel , that was the Deuce with the White/Hercules engine . The tires are Non-Directional thread. 24 volt system as all military vehicles . BTW , the information plates in the vehicle will tell you everything you need to know about the vehicle , operation , lube , oil , fuel, coolant capacity and type . It also list all the Technical and Parts manuals so you can repair the MV . They were made to be repaired in the field . That MV was made late 60's and early 70's , replaced by the 900 series . They were rated 10 Tons on the road ,5 tons cross country , Bob K , VP, Renegades of WNY Military Vehicle Club

The M812-M820 was for 1969-1982,the M939's came out in 1982 and had the same 14.0L Cummins, while also being from AM General. The M939's had the N/A 250 until 1987.The M809's were designed by Kaiser Jeep but AM General made them on contract, but all of the ones which were retrofitted were rebuilt by Kaiser Jeep, every 700-730 Hours of use in the Military. The Multi-Fuel was developed and made by Continental, while Hercules and White on contract made them too.The Multi-Fuel was for 1960-1988.1960-1966 there was the LDT-427 for the M35A1,and then 1966-1988 it is the LDT-465,LT-465,and LDS-465 for the M35A2-M342A2.The early M35's dating back to 1950 were all gas trucks with a Continental or Reo OA-331.The M35A3-M109A4 were all straight diesel how ever and had Allison Automatics too,not manual like the M35A1-M35A2,and they were for 1993-1999 and had a 3116 Caterpillar.

Bob K, thanks for getting into the nitty gritty on that 818. I drove the dump truck version in the middle 70’s hauling Fort Dix sand all over the base with Delta Company , 39th Engineers. It was brand new in 76. I loved it like I was paying for it. Even had a new vehicle smell. It was the one always sent to the roadside inspections because our motor sergeant knew it would pass

5th gear in low range is 25 mph in high range about 58 mph . The tires are called non directional cross country; non directional so the enemy can’t tell which way the truck was traveling by it’s tracks

Your over revving the engine if you are going 58mph!!! Even at 54mph they are doing 2200rpm and that is 100rpm over Safe Engine Speed.

I remembered seeing I think it's called a M939 used in logging several years ago. I remembered it having a Cummins 8.3 Diesel and an Allison Automatic transmission. That M818 is a cool truck.

The Cummins engines in the 800 series trucks are 14 litres with 6inch piston stroke and should NOT exceed 2100 rpm.

"NDT" means "non directional tread" which is, like blackout lights, left over from WW2. The idea being an enemy could not tell by looking at the tracks which way the vehicle was traveling. They also wear rapidly and adversely effect braking so even the military has moved on to more practical designs. As many viewers have limited knowledge of military vehicles it would be nice to have a commentator who does not prefix every phrase with "I don't know..."

These trucks really shine off road.On the highway and loaded not so much. The tractor configuration is a great one to restore, they are a blast to drive. The main thing that hinders these trucks for on road driving is the transmission. With just 5 gears with the Cummins they fall on their face between 3rd and 4th.And pulling a hill with a load 3rd and 2nd have way too much gap between them.Ive always wanted to try one of these with a 13 speed swapped in.

That truck actually has a NHC-250 Cummins, all of the M812-M820 do,just like the M923-M943 and M923A1-M945A1,which is a Naturally Aspirated 14.0L.The Multi-Fuel was only used in some of the M51A2-M62A2/M348-M648 5 Ton Trucks, which came out before these even existed. And then you have your M35A1 and M35A2-M342A2 with Multi-Fuels too.And that is not exactly true buddy,a Multi-Fuel will actually run on JP4-JP8 all day long, but there is some aviation fuels of which are not suitable for such a engine. These engines will even consume gasoline, ethanol, and petroleum IF it is mixed with diesel or motor oil.You should never run straight or pure flammables in any of them.A Multi-Fuel just has different Pistons,Injectors, and Fuel Pumps, other than that,it's still a basic ignition compression engine.Any Diesel,Oil,or Fluid you could use in a deuce and a half can be used in any other diesel truck. The only alternative to doing so is using a Bosch VE44 or Inline Fuel Pump at that, with a Multi-Fuel,as I said, the Fuel Pumps are one of the things that make them very different.

Ss81; it would be cool I think to dress up one with a double chromed bumper loaded with chicken lights Durabright wheels with low pro 22.5’s , a hard top with led watermelon clearance lights, a couple Peterbilt tuned air horns, the higher speed rears and one of those full width taillight bumper bars . Oh yeah don’t forget the stainless mudflaps weights and them get Deltron s version of olive drab but with metal flakes 🤗

The air cleaner is on the left fender. Its a 250 Cummins. If the air cleaner were on the other side it would be a multi fuel. The tires are eleven hundred twenty non-directional.

True, but with the air cleaner on the passenger side it could also be an A1 with a Mack ENDT673 Turbo Diesel. The A2's are Multifuel. I have an M818 w/w and an M54A1c with the Mack. I've also owned an A2 as well.

The M818 just like the other M812-M820 actually have Cummins, not Multi-Fuel.They use a N/A NHC-250,which is a 14.0L.The same engine was also used in the M923-M943 & M923A1-M945A1 for 1982-1987,after the M812-M820 was only for 1969-1982.The BMY Harsco M923A2-M943A2 was the one that had the 8.3L 6CT,but previous variations of the five ton used the 14.0L.The 14.0L also comes as a NTC-400,and that was used in the M915-M920 & M915A1-M920A1,all trucks of which were made by AM General too.The NTC-400 in the Line Haulers and Light Equipment Tractors were replaced by the Freightliners that have Detroits in them. The M812-M820 was designed by Kaiser Jeep but manufactured by AM General,on contract. How ever, five ton trucks actually did have Multi-Fuels at some point before the 240 HP 14.0L.Before the M809's and M939's even came into existence,The M51A2-M62A2,as well as some of the M348-M648 (1961-1969) had 7.8L Multi-Fuels such as the 135 HP LDT-465 or 175 HP LDS-465,most of them had the 175 HP Multi-Fuel because of it's Torque. But after that, only your M35A1 and M35A2-M342A2 have Multi-Fuels.The M35A1 is for 1960-1966 and M35A2 is from 1966-1988. Going back to the M39 Series, the M51A1-M62A1 are Mack trucks and have Mack engines, they used a 210 HP EDNT-673 Thermodyne, which is the 11.0L.And then the M51-M62 are gas trucks with a 9.9L R602 from Continental. And these two seperate variations are BEFORE they even had Multi-Fuels,even existing.

The m 818 has a MyChart 250 Cummins that burns straight diesel or a diesel /kerosene blend . No gasoline or av gas maybe av jet if it’s blended with diesel because about jet is the same thing as K 1 kerosene except it has anti gel additives to prevent gelling at high jet flying altitudes

Its a 250 Cummins, i have two of them. Top speed is 55 but comfortable is around 43mph. Will still beat your guts out going down the road. If you buy one the first thing you should do is replace the air over hydraulic brakes with modern air retention brakes. This thing gets an air leak and you are fucked. They are solid trucks and good for farm or logging operations but thats about it. Get you some better tires to cause those are not only dry rotted as hell by now but slick as shit on wet surfaces. One mor thing, best modification i made was to re route the exhaust pipe to dump out the back like a pickup. It helps with the noise a ton.
