People often forget. Some even leave keys in locks. Criminals just have to get lucky once. Take the two seconds required to check the door, esp when going to bed. Im in a security related field and people trying doorknobs isnt that rare. Drunk people often get confused when coming home and can go to the wrong house.

I don't open my door for anyone, especially at night. I g9o out the back door...armed...and sneak around to the front. The look on their faces when they see large caliber gun is priceless...

There should be a sensor trigger on the steps that takes a picture with a loud snap shot sound, followed by an announcement that your picture has been taken and is being forwarded to the local police station.

Motion-activated lights and cameras already take videos and police do not need photos forwarded of strangers walking to your door. Even if a crime is in process, it is hard to catch people. Make your own property more secure.

Luckily my doors are always locked,with a set of K9 teeth at the ready,and at 70,and retired,I always know when a package will be delivered and keep a watchful eye for it.Always keep track of a tracking # so you will be aware.

Change all the screws out on your exterior doors to 2-1/2in construction screws. Our CCW class instructor taught us that. I had no idea that all the exterior doors to my house were held in by screws that were literally 1/2 an inch long.

I don't understand how people don't take their safety seriously - especially given all the technology and information on how to keep your home and self safe. Granted, I live in a small town of around 2,000+ people and am a little lazy in security than I was in Phoenix, AZ. But still........... I have a friend who had her husband create a drop box on her front porch for deliveries. It's one way in - can't take the packages out the way they went in. She has a key to unlock the drop box and retrieve her packages. Some neighbors ask other neighbors if they will look out for a delivery for them. Barking dogs are always a deterrent. Set up a system where you record dogs barking and the recording plays when anyone tries to fool with your home. There are so many ways to keep yourself and loved ones safe.

People stealing electronics and equipment is why everyone should take photos of their things and the model and Serial numbers, and keep them backed up somewhere so that you have them in case those things are ever stolen, or for insurance purposes after a fire, flood, or storm damage.

You're right, I've had 2 bikes stolen for me in the past year. They were used,, but decent bikes. Police always want to know complete description and serial number, if they care about bike thefts at all. I'm lucky that in my smaller town, they actually care. 50 miles North, in Chicago, it would be a different story .. theft is not considered crime up there.

Sometimes teenagers just leave it open. No matter how many times you tell em, they will still do it. When mine were teens I would catch em as they walked in, or just lock it myself if they forget. Sometimes you are not home or in another part of house. My husband will lock our backdoor security screen but leave the rest open. Hell nah, we have AC, too. I make sure it's all and bolted! bolted!

FOR MY PACKAGES - I have a huge Potted Plant in front of my door. Also a sign you see when you get to the door that states. "Leave packages behind the Pot". Works great. Nobody can see any packages on porch. Never had anything stolen and we get 10-15 packages a week.

If you are waiting for deliver, keep your eyes o the front door and take it quickly, dont leave your stuff outside for thieves.

This is my thing! When you are at home and know that you are having things delivered to your home. Once you get it go out there bring it in the home stop leaving your packages on the porch of your home. Please use common sense we live in bad times people got to stop ignoring their surrounding.

You could see a random person walking down the street holding a package and little do you know it might be yours.. 💀

These videos would be a lot better if we saw criminals getting harsh consequences and some follow ups about arrests.

America needs something like a parcel locker for parcels on the streets that can be picked up at your leisure, e.g. after work. It's strange that you don't practice such things on a large scale. In Europe, it is popular and appreciated by people. You enter your phone number, the 6-digit code received via SMS and collect the package. I guess that such parcel lockers would probably be robbed a lot, but if they were placed in illuminated places somewhere in busy places with monitoring, it could do its job. Also, leaving packages at people's doors is strange and unthinkable in Europe. The courier takes the package when no one is home and will bring it another time.

That is available for Amazon packages, generally in the parking lot of a gas station or near residential areas. It is gaining in popularity for people to have their packages delivered there vs their package left outside.

I’ve often wondered why neighborhood kids/teens don’t make side money collecting packages for neighbors and holding them safe from porch pirates. But I live way out in the country where porch pirates aren’t a thing. I’m more likely to lose a package to a raccoon than to a ‘dusty’.

I wished people would stopped stealing. This world is already messed up.

I've heard people say the homeless are not violent. Have you? Well, here is a horror story. Back in 2000, my family was living in Stockton, in a great neighborhood where all the houses were huge and well-kept. Some homeless man broke into a home down the street from our house, through a window in the back. A man and his grandson (who was visiting) were asleep in the house. The man clubbed the two of them to death in their beds. I don't know what happened after that, the closed the home for a while and then other family moved.

I've thought the same too and I have decided if I get one - best to disguise the 'disguised cam masker', probably cover it with different flowers and plants or something - but certainly not have their plant showing. Millions in America and those of us outside America know what it looks like 😊
