I've been following these videos for a while and upgrading my wardrobe as I go. I love walking into a room when I know I'm well dressed. That feeds my confidence very time. This last week, I finally pulled the trigger to get my first fitted suit. And that made me feel like a million bucks. So thank you and your team for all the hard work you put into these videos. It is making a difference!

I've always cared about how I dressed but my workplace is super casual, like the president wears boardshorts and a T-shirt casual. So, I found myself getting a little lazy and dressing down from my norm. Then I started watching more fashion vids for older men and decided to start putting in a little more effort into it again, still casual but collared shirts, chinos, and loafers. It was definitely a step up from everyone else and I could tell by the scans I'd get from some of the ladies. Within the coming weeks I could see a couple other guys in the office step up their game a little to look a little nicer too. Now it's just carried into my daily life. I'm in the midst of clearing out a lot of clothing items and replacing them with more basics. I had mentioned to my coworkers that I always liked that my dad and grandfather always dressed up and that I wanted to dress more like them and my coworker who was like straight out of college said, "what's stopping you?" You know, she was right. Since then I decided to go back to what I used to do, dressing up a bit, and I feel better for it.

You could also consider wearing golf pants, especially in hotter weather. They are lightweight, look a bit more dressy without pushing it and go great with any shirt except a tee. They are also very affordable. I got a few at WalMart for about $30 each in grey, navy blue and tan and a grey small windowpane check. I am a 38 waist and 30 inch leg. Got them off the rack in that size…no tailoring!

Found your channel a month ago. I wear a uniform most days of the week, but I am increasingly called into meetings with lawmakers, community leaders, etc. where the uniform can be distracting. As a stylist, I’ve always said that the shoes/footwear set the tone of the outfit. By tone I mean both the level of formality and how much the wearer values both himself and the quality of the items he brings into his life. The same is true for headwear, don’t wear those darn baseball caps unless you’re actually playing that sport at the time. Or at least get a plain leather/suede or good cloth one, without a label or logo. And, wear it the right way around! My Dad wears a hat every day, never a ballcap, he gets constant compliments.

This is VERY true... I am notoriously adding my major emphasis on footwear and headwear to EVERY OUTFIT... they are two immediate calling cards that set you apart from the crowd, and when done with certain careful considerations, they add IMMEASURABLE percieved value from those around you... I still wish more men and women wore hats still, a good hat is the absolute cherry on top of a brilliant outfit...

Step 1... Don't be overweight. Successful people are all about controlling their controllables, and this includes their physique. Everything fits better off the rack when you are within the "ideal" range. By starting to incorporate RMRS advice I realized that i wasn't happy with how clothes fit, and the desire to dress better drove me to lose weight. It is costing me a fortune as I have rebuy everything to fit! But it is worth it.

I was always afraid to say this on those “female elegance” advice channels, but you broke the ice for me: for women who want to look elegant, the single most important thing is to be slender! It’s nearly impossible for fat people, male or female, to be perceived as elegant by most of us. It’s not nice, or fair, but in our society, we tend to find fat people faintly ridiculous. I’m sorry, but it’s true, look at any elementary school class, the fat kids are ridiculed mercilessly. Plus, being fat is dangerous to health, that should be reason enough to get in shape. It isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible, either, anyone can start by just walking and eliminating carbs/sugar. I walked off 40 lbs. and have kept if off for years.

@@kimberlyperrotis8962 we make snap judgements. If I am looking for someone to do business with, manage my money, or by my physician, will I trust someone who is badly dressed? Less likey. But likewise will I trust someone who is obese? Again, less likey. If we accept we judge on style, personal grooming etc we need to accept we judge on a whole host of biases (rational and irrational), which we need to be aware of. Agreed. When I was overweight, I didn't bother much with good-looking clothing, because I was self-aware enough to realize that I looked lousy and rather ridiculous in anything I wore. Since losing 90 lbs, and getting back to my healthy BMI after decades, I've also spent a fortune on a new wardrobe - actually, two wardrobes, since I soon had to buy a second round of more slender shirts and trousers after dropping a couple of sizes - but it's been worth every penny. While I won't say I'm handsome, I cut a decent figure and my clothes make me stand out - in a good way this time!!

I follow my own checklist of the "3 C's" when I get dressed for an event... color combos, cloth/cut, and commonality... Is it colorful? Is it a unique cut or cloth type that fits the event? and how common is it to see a man wearing similar/ same styles? If all three of those criteria are met, I count that as a homerun outfit... by doing those things, I find myself always standing out and getting compliments from both men and women... also, you NEED TO ACCESSORIZE!!!

Awesome video Antonio. Confidence is everything, without it, you’re just another brick in the wall. I once had a surprise invite to an event that was semi formal at the Sergeant’s Mess. Our base was in western Canada. One problem, no suit and nowhere to get one in the small town I was stationed at. I found an older double breasted grey suit at the town thrift store that actually fit me really well, a 1 hour rush job at the local dry cleaner to clean it and a local sewing shop that got the leg bottoms cut down and taken in a bit on a rush job. It was an off the rack brand but at least it was fine wool and well constructed. Cost was $10 for the suit and about $100 for the rush services. I already had a really nice robin egg blue dress shirt and a deep blue tie to go with it. My female top boss was stunned at how well I looked and said so. I graciously said thanks for the compliment. One bozo made some stupid comment about my suit. Something like, “Hey man, double breast went out in the 90s.” He was wearing some kind of western cowboy get up. I just glared at him and said “Well, yours went out in the 90s too……the 1890s! Broke up the whole group. I was easily the best dressed man in the room and everybody noticed. My direct supervisor told me I knew how to make an entrance and stand out. He said I had balls and just exuded confidence all night long. I chuckled and said, “Im glad you noticed.” He told me later that the Base Comd even mentioned it to my boss. That never hurts!

Thank you for this video. I like how you mentioned being appropriate to the event. I was at a local art show today. Most of the guys were nondescript. If anything, I noticed them wearing nothing particularly artsy-fartsy. One guy was tall. He came in with jeans on. I did not notice his shoes or I don't remember them one way or another. He looked at me and I looked at him. Cafe society! Give them something to look at. I wore Tommy Hilfiger red pants, navy canvas topsiders CVO style and a textured white short sleeved Tommy Bahama linen shirt, untucked. I was actually more appropriately dressed to the event. It was blazing hot out. I wore an airy weave. Interesting. Appropriate to the event. Guys, you do not need to be dressing like a peacock all of the time or overdressed for the heat and the event. Use some creative imagination whenever you can. Mix it up a little bit. It is expected at an art show. Thank you again for this timely discussion.

As a woman who dated a lot before getting with my husband, this is my advice on what attracts us women, based on Antonio’s always-great content: a crisp, collared shirt, a structured jacket (suit jacket, sport coat, or blazer), nice trousers (wool if possible), a great tie, and leather belt and shoes, not sneakers or flip flops. I think every man should have a great navy and/or charcoal suit - you’ll need it for weddings, christenings and unfortunately, funerals/memorial services.
