I was a sound engineer in the late 90’s. Was doing a festival one weekend with Lots of rock and roll acts and Alvin was on the line up. During the soundcheck, he realised he’d forgotten his acoustic guitar. It just so happened I’d brought mine to play back in the accommodation and offered it to him. He did and he was very grateful. I even asked him to sign it, so I am the proud owner of a Takamine acoustic guitar with the words “thanks Tim” signed by the man and he used it for his show. Bit random, but I thought I might as well! He was a very nice chap. Very friendly. RIP Sir.

Everyone said that about Bernard. Had an ability to sing in the sound of so many people really. Its probable that the first two Alvin Stardust Records were actually recorded by Pete Shelley under the Alvin Stardust Name, but Bernard Jewry was hired for the live performances as Pete did not want to tour or appear on shows, certainly from the third disc it was all Bernard, and he created the Alvin Stardust Image - to put such as distance from his days as Shane Fentone (whom he had taken over the role of when the original Shane Fentone had died).

My Coo Ca Choo- Alvin Stardust This was a massive N0.1 Hit in 1974 in Australia. It oozes cool smoothness in this love song that describes the things he loves about a girl. The opening guitar riff is one of the best ever and is still one of my best memories of childhood with my ear glued to Sydney's 2SM. 1270 AM. The record Producer and Engineer should be highly commended for this tune. The sale of black gloves increased a million % in 1974. LOL!!!

My band had the great privilege to open a gig in Largs, Ayrshire for Alvin some years ago.. He was the most organised and professional Musician and Singer I've witnessed. A great decade for music. Class.
I was 11, growing up in East London, when this came out. Had an impact as an 'ear-worm', on me. Thought Alvin's style - cool. Revisiting this song now, at 59, and after seeing the movie 'Elivis', I can see what an impact Elvis had on so many people. Another classic from the 'Glam Rock' era. The guitar solo beginning 1:30 is awesome. This was originally to have been sung by Stardust's originator Peter Shelley, who also had hit records on his own Magnet label.

@garethbramley1
9 ай бұрын
One was Pete and the other was Peter. Plus Pete Shelley was not the name of a group and he didn't go solo till after Peter had finished his signing career (1979). so there were never two artists credited under the same name. Sadly Peter Shelley - singer / songwriter and producer - died earlier this year. I can understand the confusion though.@@erictopp1310
