Good insights as ever Rygo. Upgrading my duotones to SLS seemed a gimmick but now youve explained the benefits, it makes much more sense - esp on larger kite - and will hold off buying a large foil kite until tried the OR flight. Thanks again, Doug

Have had a 10m Aluula Roam for about half a year now. As well as the expected light-wind performance, I'm amazed at how easy and controllable this kite is when way over-powered, particularly when riding a hydrofoil. Interested to see if others find the same thing, great low-wind performance and awesome top end handling and control.

I’m debating whether or not to purchase the 10m Aluula Roam (for foiling in light wind) my 9m Cabrinha drifter works great in 12/13kts (I weigh 215lbs) but need something that’ll get me going in 8/9kts. Do you think the Aluula Roam would work at my weight... or am I dreaming?

Great (first) video, Rygo. Thanks a lot for your first impressions on these terrific new kites. Effectively, I have a OR A-Flite 14,5m and old Neo’s (2019&2020 12m, 9m and 7m) and I must confess I feel very much inclined to change all my Neo’s by OR ones (probably Roam’s) instead of upgrading to the Neo SLS. It is a general feeling after riding several times the Flite (I do love riding this kite, much more than the Neo’s, which are quite good, but lack the “finesse” and almost “auto-pilot” feeling of the OR Aluula kite). But of course I still have some small doubts, since I was not able to do a comparison between the Neo SLS and the OR A-Roam. I would be delighted if you could clarify between the two which is the one that drifts better, the one that stays better in the air independent from the pilot action; the reason behind is because what I value most, besides a quick and easy relaunch (convenient in big waves if needed), is the capacity to surf with the board and to forget the kite (as much as possible) mainly in side-on and on-shore wind conditions. Keep up with your invaluable work to help us opt for the better solutions for each particular kiter. Cheers 🤙

Nice video Rygo. The Ocean rodeo seemed to stay in the sky irregardless of wind or slack lines, it didn't matter. Also surf riding with such a large kite, demonstrated that it's quite maneuverable in the light conditions.

Question? What bar length did you actually use with the 17m while filming? Not so much the recommended length - your actual length of bar on the day (while filming?). Great video, as always! Thanks. 🪂

Nice start to the reviews, Rygo. Okay, I’ve owned my 17m Aluula Flite since September. I’m used to flying more performance oriented kites i.e. Ozone Edges v10, Flysurfer Souls, etc. Having said that, the light wind performance is outstanding! I wish it performed a little more like my others. The fabric is a game changer! I just hope the longevity is there. 🤞 However, there’s no way me, nor my Aluula Flite owning friends can get their kite back into those cheap, flimsy bags! I had to buy another bag! To pay that much for a 17m A-series Flite and have to buy a bag is an insult! My friends are using other kite bags as well. I think the 14.5m Aluula Flite is the money kite for anyone 165lbs or less. My 12m Flysurfer Soul has the same power as my buddies’ 14.5m Aluula Flite! Love how fast they turn! Amazing for a 17m! Generates a lot of power!

Now that it's been some time since this comment, which would you go for again, the Soul or Flite? I'm 145lbs looking to twin tip in light breeze.

  • @collegepros

@@asanchis92 well, I would say that if you like a kite that turns fast, then the Aluula Flite is the way to go. However, the 2023 Flite is going to 5 struts to become a more performance kite. So, I would wait until they come out and watch a review. If, somehow, they can keep the weight the same, then the 5 strut Flite should be great. It will probably have a wider arc, so have more projected area which will be good. I really don’t think that the 14.5m/17.5m need to be 5 struts. If you’re okay with a kite that doesn’t turn as fast, then the Soul2 is an awesome kite! Great hang time for practicing tricks, relaunching is quick and easy. If you kite in gusty/on off conditions, then go for the Aluula Flite. They are just so outrageously expensive though. Hope that helps.

Hey there, really appreciate you taking on this comparison. I guess you need more time with them, and when you can, would you get into the differences rather than similarities between them? I’m listening for reasons to purchase one over the other, especially when there’s such a difference in price. Thanks Rygo!!

  • @MACkiteboarding

You got it. At the moment I feel that for big kites the light materials are huge. Like a massive deal. because the kites fly like smaller kites. I went back to my turbine after this and the difference is staggering. For the smaller kites they are snappier but I don’t know how much more performance your getting. They do feel better in the hand and respond better but the price difference is quite the shock. I think it’s a similar situation with Duotone surfboards. They standard models were great. Average riders likely would never tap out their potential. Yet everyone gets the pro model because no one wants limitations haha even if they will never reach them! My point is on the small kites I’m wondering if the benefits really shine at a higher level of riding. Stand by for the review once I’ve tested / researched more. - Rygo

I can! Great request. As of now, I have dropped the roam by slacking the lines too much. The Neo I was always able to recover. I may have put the roam way to far forward though. Boarderline around the world style haha. Probably user error not kite. I’m still working on my foil game 🤙🏻. I’ll test this in the real review. - Rygo

I’ve been flying the SLS 9m for about 4weeks, by far the easiest kite to relaunch that I’ve flown. I was torn between the two, and ended up with the SLS. I’d love to hear how does the Allula goes on the surf. Thanks heaps

I’ll try the Roam as soon as the waves line up. I did foil with it and it has way less grunt than the neo. The relaunch was epic in light wind. I dropped the 10 in 12 and it popped up immediately. Stand by for a true comparison when I have real feedback. 🍻 - Rygo

My buddy got a 12 roam, and found it didn’t jump or give enough power in light wind. Great for foiling but not twintip. He switched it for the 12 flite and loves it wayyy more. More power, bigger jumps, massive wind range.

I've rode Neos for 3 years now. Just got a Flight Aluula and they have really long bridle so not sure if it's good for surf. Because the cloth material is heavier than Aluula material in lulls it floats back instead of turtling and falling out of the sky. Not as much as foil kites but close. The Roam reacts very fast. So it will be interesting to see the comparison between SLS Neo vs Roam Aluula. Right now if I were to replace my Neos I would switch to Roam Aluula. Except I don't like the color scheme of Aluula kites so waiting on version 2 Roam Aluula.

Cheers for the feedback! You’re correct. I wouldn’t pick the Flite as a surf kite. It just happened to be the conditions the day we tested. It did surprisingly well but you can see on a big wave how went down in the video. What was impressive about this is how light the wind was when we were riding. - Rygo

@@MACkiteboarding By the way the local dealer just told me they weighted the 7m drifter and it's 10g less than the 7m Neo SLS. Cabrinha told him that the weight differences are insignificant above 16 knots and are just marketing. What really matters is the stiffness of the canopy.

Something to highlight is the bar the OR vs the Duotone both bar do the same. The main difference is that the Ocean Rodeo is open and you can rinse with water after each section. The Duotone bar you need to disassemble the click system to clean it.
