Aluminum thickness .063
Thanks for watching and keeping up with the build. The difficult thing about installing a sub-floor to a jon boat (my jon boat)that may not have one is getting the water to drain to the ransom so it can be pumped out by the bilge pump. I went with cpvc pipe i already had, but im not sure if that was the best idea. If I do it again, I will probably create some type of barrier between the port and starboard side, and leave a 4-5" channel down the middle. ____________________________________

Poured foam will definitely help with the structure of the floor. If i may put my 2 cents in. I would have left the sheet off and poured every other section and then taken and long blade and cut it down level and then gone back and done the others. Cant wait to see how it all turns out.

Video is over a year old but I wanted to add my 2 cents. It hurt to watch holes drilled into the aluminum floor. IMO, the holes were absolutely not necessary. Pour before you lay the aluminum down. As for me, I’m using EVA foam in my floor instead of sheet foam or pour foam. EVA is quieter than sheet foam and as close to waterproof as you can get. Lastly, the bow drain installed in the video will eventually plug up. Even using pour foam it wasn’t necessary to block the built in drain channels. You could have laid a 1/4” sheet of foam over the channels before pouring.

Would you suggest placing thin sheet of metal in between each frame before the pour to keep the built in drains? I’m in this process now and contemplating metal then pour and 1/2 inch ply for subfloor. Thoughts?

Question, why did you take out the pink cut out sheets? I'm about to put my old bass boat back together. The back 2 side were poured with foam and sheets were placed under the floor originally. I was going to repour the sides, cover the water chanels with thin sheets of aluminum in each section and then use the pink foam. When I stripped this boat down there was trash, leaves, dirt , you name it in each chanel and the old foam was water logged where the water wasn't able to drain properly to the back bilge and drain hole because the chanels were foamed over or dammed up with crud.

  • @fireantfishing

I took it out because I wanted a more solid floor. I felt like there would still be play between the foam and the aluminum. I like the pink foam, ill be reusing as much of it as possible in other areas

  • @dkruitz

Why pull out that good closed cell foam? It wasn't deteriorated and wasn't absorbing water. It allowed water to run in the channels to the transom for draining.

My thought exactly, you lost the built in drains doing it that way. I'm struggling with this decision on my floor now. On the other hand you can't deal the sheets when they are cut and they get water logged as well over time.

We easily cut 60 4x8 sheets of .063 aluminum at the laser shop where I work. People on the area will buy sheets every now and then. I'd bet we sell it way cheaper than most places considering the volume. Call around to laser shops and ask them how much they cut (do they stock it) and will they sell you a couple sheets for your boat. Also look up the big metal suppliers in your area. Forget mcmaster carr. Waaaaay overpriced!
